Rough hands beat on his chest, one two three, each beat a pounding ache to his battered body. Lips pressed against his, firm, unyielding, stale breath forced into his lungs. He tried to cough again, his body lurching. Suddenly he was on his side, vomiting water out of his body and sobbing with the pain of it all. A hand rested on his back, and dimly the man realized he was alive still. Once again he had failed. “A bit late for a swim, don’t you think?” a man’s voice said. The sou

The water flowed over him, shoving the man forcefully back. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think the ocean was trying to save him. No, more like it was rejecting him. He came here to die and he couldn’t even do that properly. His whole life he had been a failure. A disgrace to his family, a high school dropout, divorced, jobless, and the failures just kept adding up. It would be better for the world if he was gone. Never again would he stare at himself in the mirror, cursing his red

They met Itumak in front of Mateio’s room, the neko seated in the doorway. “Hey, Captain Darren told me about lunch. Are you okay?” “Later,” Aaron muttered. “I need to see to the reform proposal. Someone will bring you dinner.” The neko frowned as the elf walked away. “Give me a moment please,” he said to Mateio, before hurrying after Aaron. The elf felt Itumak grab his hand, pulling him into an alcove. “Okay, spill. What happened?” “Itumak, I don’t want to ta

“Morning kitten,” Artemis smiled as Elias opened his eyes. The neko yawned, drawing the blanket up to his neck as he rolled over. “Aw, you’re not ready to wake up?” A tiny voice said, “No,” and Artemis’ smile grew wider. Elias had made so much progress in the month since he had started therapy. He still refused to talk to anyone other than Artemis, but he at least seemed a lot more comfortable talking around the tiger. “Fine, but I’m getting into bed with you then.” Elia

Aaron followed the hooded figure through the trees, fallen twigs snapping under his feet. They were a good distance from the palace, and he was starting to realise this was probably a bad idea. What was stopping Mateio from just stealing him away? They entered a clearing, Mateio studying a map hovering over his bracelet. The fox said something in a lyrical sounding voice, the words lost on Aaron. It was the same language Mateio had been speaking, but without the translator to cover it, he c

Aaron escorted Mateio back, the two silent in their walk. As they stopped outside the room, Mateio turned to the elf. “I know you’re probably busy ruling your planet, but do you think we can talk for a bit?” “About your people? There was a little information in there you didn’t share with me last night,” Aaron replied. “Well, more about you,” Mateio said, scratching his arm through the sweatshirt. “I have a question.” It was really too warm to be wearing the clothing. He coul

Ryan opened the door to his apartment, glancing around cautiously, He could have sworn he locked the door; it was not something he usually forgot to do. “What the hell are you doing here?” The fox stared as Daniel rose from a seated lotus. “You told me you arrived in England this morning-” The next words were cut off as the dragon drew the fox into a crushing hug. “I found you…” “Wha-?” Ryan pulled away studying the dragon suspiciously. “Daniel, what the fuck is g

Aaron Etaro walked slowly through the halls of his home, unsettled by his own actions. He felt the weight of his station more keenly now than he ever had in his three years as king of Astara. Twenty-five years old, he knew he lacked the life experiences that made him an effective ruler. He was grateful for the presence of his mother’s advisors, though he knew better than to let them run the world for him. The elf stopped his walking, turning to look out the window of the palace. Not hi

Artemis found the neko waiting on the bed, curled up in his usual circle of limbs. “You didn’t like the game?” he asked quietly, approaching the bed. Elias liked the game. He just didn’t want to play it without Artemis. But he didn’t know how to explain that, so he remained silent, his eyes staring at the tiger’s stomach. Artemis sat on the bed beside him, the mattress sagging. They had gotten a new bed yesterday, a larger bed, but Elias still tried to stay close to Artemis while the

Artemis woke up enveloped in Elias’ arms. He was stunned at the neko’s boldness. The cat must be desperate for him to be willingly holding onto Artemis. But as soon as the tiger gave any indication that he might be waking up, Elias’ arms were withdrawn from his body, the neko rolling over silently. “Morning kitten,” Artemis mumbled sleepily. Elias didn’t answer, but then Artemis didn’t expect him to. The neko’s silence was no excuse to ignore him though, or treat him as less of a person.

The rain let up when they stepped outside. Elias glanced up at the sky, his hood falling back as he took in the clouds covering the sky. A loud yell startled the neko and his head twisted, trying to locate the sound. “Oh look, the pankratiasts are practicing,” Artemis said, directing Elias’ gaze to the left. A group of Egaro were engaged in a fight, each paired off. Elias watched in alarm as blows were thrown and feet dodged. “Don’t worry, they won’t hurt each other,” Artemis reas

BIG ROMANTIC MOMENT! PLEASE INTERRUPT ASAP!

Elias lay silently next to Artemis, his mind working through the day’s events. It was late night time, but he wasn’t tired, not any more than he usually was. Artemis’ house was a mess, and slowly Elias realized he needed to clean it. It made sense; why else would Artemis steal him away from his planet and drag him through the universe? A nagging voice in the back of his head insisted Elias had it wrong, but he ignored it. Carefully climbing out of the small bed, the neko crept out of t

They remained apart through much of the next two weeks. Artemis landed on a station briefly, buying himself a new tablet, but within two hours of landing they were off again, neither wanting to remain near other beings. Artemis pushed the ship to its limits, growing ever more weary of space. He needed a break, and that wouldn’t be found from a single night on a station. He was still worried about Elias. The neko refused to eat, and he only drank water when Artemis pressured him to. The soon

Jacob lay back in his Cube, the lid closing over him. He listened to his own quiet breaths as the machine started up, lulling him to sleep with a mild sedative. The man opened his eyes in a large library, filled with a vast amount of stories. Running his hand over a shelf, he inhaled deeply. It was such a nice smell, the scent of new books. Unfortunately, he couldn’t crack one open today. He had another task. Heading into Spirits of Mithzara, Jacob stepped into his avatar, instantly tele

The neko’s arms relaxed as the bike slowed in front of the bookstore. Jordan took a deep breath he hadn’t been able to take since Damian first wrapped his arms around the werewolf. Damian climbed off the bike, allowing Jordan to follow. They entered the shop, finding Halor sweeping the floor while Blanche reorganized a shelf of books. Jordan immediately rushed toward the woman, kneeling beside her. “I can finish this,” he said. “Thanks,” Blanche smiled, pushing off his shoulder t

Kyle stood up from his Cube, stretching. He wanted to get another hour in Mithzara, but his parents didn’t like him sleeping in too late. It didn’t matter. By his calculations, he had made almost fifty copper last night. What that meant was uncertain, but he hoped it was good. He didn’t have any classes that day, but there were a few things he had to do. A loud meow outside his room reminded of one of them. “Alright Cas,” he grumbled, pulling on a pair of boxers. A shirt followed, lo

Kyle Stevens went to bed early the day he got Spirits of Mithzara. He was already a week late getting started in the game and didn’t want to wait any longer to try out what was being called the best fantasy simulator ever created. Nestled in the cushioned bedding of his Cube, the nineteen-year-old college student shut the transparent lid over himself and closed his eyes. Winding down enough for the transition into his sleep was always difficult, and with a game to dream in now, Kyle found it

Jacob Ashford is in a happy relationship. He can't imagine his life without his girlfriend Laura in it. But when he meets a kitsune in the game within his dreams, he discovers love can be rather messy. Kyle Stevens is often described as a loner. He's friendly enough, but he has always preferred the company of a good book to that of another person. An encounter with an elf changes everything he thought he knew about himself. Can the elf be for real? Or is it just advanced software tricking his mind?

When the state of the Alliance is threatened, the Alliance deals with traitors harshly. They cannot afford to seem weak. It will take time for both of them to heal. Artemis just looked down the barrel of a gun. There will be some scars for both of them, but hopefully they can get the help they both need.

Artemis sat beside Elias, his mind still in shock. Reinard was dead, his body already being prepared for burial. They wouldn’t be there the burial. Ceirel had banished them from the Artego house, and Artemis couldn’t say he blamed the Faro. The tiger had caused the death of both his kites. The Alliance had been quick to step in and sentence Neistar to death after it was discovered he had been part of the plot to rekindle the war. He wasn’t the only plotter. General Aro was revealed to be the

All's well that ends well... for the moment. Thank you so much for the amazing story. I can't wait to see what comes next. Regardless, I'm going to miss the Team as we wait for the sequel.

I love the last of the Mohicans soundtrack. I'm trying to learn to play Promontory but I doubt I'll ever be able to play it as well as Lane does. I'm no half angel.
