That's not all 'judge' Avery Cornhole is going to be "haunted" by. By law, a stenographer / Court Reporter is required for all sessions, including those "in chambers" (his office). Which means Richie will have no problem getting a 'Judicial Review' for 'conduct' as well as violating the law. For those unfamiliar with the U.S., most judges are elected, so he probably won't be after his interviews with the 6 boys up for adoption: "...we were surprised when only Peter came out. He was crying. “Peter, come here.” I picked him up and set him on my lap. “Why are you crying?” Peter's reply really yanked on my heartstrings: “I don’t think the judge likes me. Dad, I’m afraid he won’t let you adopt me.” Thank you again Calvin for another wonderful chapter. While I suspect this story may be in the 7th inning stretch, hopefully there's still more to come. Stay well. Please. 🙏🏼 N.B. (pardon my stepping on the 'soap box'): GA just said farewell unexpectedly to one great author, so we need the rest of you Great Authors to stick around. Or come back into the fold if you've been away.

Another great chapter Preston. The hotel bombing likely linked to 'secret police station' personnel with access to fertilizer + diesel fuel? As to @drsawzall comments; historically there is the unique Chinese construct (concept) of 'saving face' by avoiding anything that brings humiliation, shame, embarrassment or disrepute on the family. In this 'story', the Chinese government and its thug-like leader appear to have rejected that 'ancient' concept in favour of being an arse. I expected an update on Hamysh's condition, and perhaps a more permanent change in the Executive structure of Lloyd Corp, but it seems in capable (if temporary) hands. Quick thinking and an exit strategy on the part of Xander sees him, Langely, Joshua and Kip, along with their 'butler' (soon to be PA) Jack quickly in Exmouth, boarding the Southern Explorer for a trip to "parts unknown" (not really with AIS tracking. Which means certain 'elements' are still cause for concern.) " Fair winds and calm seas" indeed.
-
Hmm, Preston I've been re-reading a previous Xander & Lang story, (checking continuity between stories; hey it's been a slow month) and found in the interim (years) between Xander 3 and this story, that we haven't heard what happened to 6 year old Myles and 8 year old Simon when Sir Lewis (as IOTA Administrator and Magistrate) made Alex and Lang their Foster Fathers when their mom Joyce was bashed (by ex boyfriend) and sent from CI to Australia hospital in a coma, to recover. If I missed something, please let me know, otherwise might they make an appearance in upcoming chapters of DS? I'm guessing they would now be early teenage by now.

I think as the Chinese (aka @CPofCN on 🐦) will quickly discover is that saying, as far as Aussies (and other like-minded people) are concerned, is now "Where there's smoke, there's fire, and ire." 🦆 🦆 🦆 in a row?

Two little pigs, Big Bad Wolf (and sidekick) and now Butler Jack (no beanstalk?) to clean up? What weird fables are children taught down under? Oh I forgot Xander's version of Hogwarts castle and a secret underground lair / survival space (that left out air scrubbers for longer than 15 days) as revealed in XDSI. Glad mother Julia is in charge at Lloyds, along with ever watchful Seb and Lewis at Wagner Corp. Hmm, secret Chinese 'police stations' (with spies capable of 'wet work' and other nasty business) in Oz as well in other AUKUS/ 5-Eyes nations? (in fiction AND fact). FYI: The Chinese phrase "May you live in interesting times" is the lowest in a trilogy of Chinese curses that continue; "May you come to the attention of those in authority" and ends with "May the gods give you everything you ask for." Our 4 brave, intrepid young men and their respective families and friends need to be ever mindful, 👀🔎until AFP and other 'friendly' forces root out and eliminate threats (10 chapters from now).

The family's visit to Arnaud seemed to be just the thing to re-inspire him, and make him feel valued and needed. (Especially when his attempt to recreate Armand & Colin's "The Home" was not the success he hoped for). Hopefully the angel Armand and Carl painted for over the entrance will attract more homeless children to this refuge. Speaking of the painting, I'm surprised they settled on canvas. Lacquer will offer a degree of protection, but having it not just in a display box, but with special glass will make it more secure. (people steal Banksy murals off walls, so you never know. Better safe than sorry). Thanks again @CLJobefor this wonderful tale. Be well. 🫂

Another wonderful chapter Cal. If everyone gets a crêpe griddle as a wedding gift or just as a gift, crêpe machine makers will be very happy. The moment Louise saw Armand's painting of the young mother giving up her baby to the angel, still brings a tear to my eye. In the instant Louise realized the infant was her, David showed his great empathy and the two of them bonded. Arnaud's illness may be more than a touch of melancholy, thinking he is not longer needed. A visit by Armand, Colin and family (especially Carl) will set him back on the road again.

Maybe the two former; as an Epileptic Seizure unlikely at Hamysh's age unless there's medical history which may be of concern to Kipling. No mention of Hamysh gripping his chest or left arm as indicators of H/S. No complaint of sudden searing headache indicative of brain aneurysm (that took the life of our dear Huon, Xander's father). More likely Hamysh hasn't been eating or hydrating properly due to stress, (especially the too real personal threat from Chinese, and not just imprisonment), all of which could cause a sudden blood pressure drop resulting in syncopy (fainting) spell. Xander's jet standing by to speed them to safety in Exmouth is a better idea than Aquaria or a Poseidon sub that offers a degree of stealth but not jet's speed. Get Hamysh stable enough to fly, and if needed use jet for emerg medical evac with doctor and EMT on flight, to closest Level 1 Trauma Center in Darwin (closer than Perth). RAAF jets in area could provide fighter 'escort'.

My "two cents worth", (alleged value of advice from politicians, likely overpriced by xxx%), on state of confusion (caused? resulting from?) "out of the ordinary" postings by @Carlos Hazday. First, 'one' typo that really caught my eye, especially as it pertains to twins Roo & Jeffer: "18 Old Glory vs Chicago Hounds home opener won 42-27. Before game, CJ, Owen & Liebe roam sidelines. Dads each carry a twin wearing/wrapped in Old Glory shit." I suspect Carlos meant 'shirt', but with infants at any time, surprises explode. Back to issue at hand, these recent postings of what could be: (a) Outline / Storyboard; (b) teaser (not normal); (c) Writer's Block not allowing Carlos to fill in the gaping voids; (d) Skipping boring stuff, so he can get to 'real' story; or... (e) Time for a "Wellness Check". Things happen "out of the blue" and often without warning. First signs are lack of communication, OR behavior that is out of the ordinary, not the 'norm'. Those with the direct means to contact Carlos Do Not hesitate to do so. Don't hesitate because you don't want to upset him. Much better he's pissed off at intrusion, than ... 🤞🏼🙏🏼

Somethings are about to hit the fan, not the least of which is China having a fit over what's happening to their ocean vessels, (and unbeknownst to them, their other 'systems' including aircraft, missiles, etc. being at potential risk). There's a confrontation or a serious discussion pending between Kipling and his "grandfather" Hamysh Lloyd, over his reactions of late (lack of civility when meeting people, especially when he no doubt knows of Alexander's connection to Sebastian's Wagner Organization, and their former business / government involvements in IOT. NB 1 - 3). Does Hamysh perceive a threat to his iron fist control over Lloyd Family Corp? I suspect Kipling is secure enough in his direct percentage interest / ownership / shares) in Lloyd Family Corp that he can not be fired by Hamysh. Do Wagner's continuing 'holdings' in Australia (and region), plus the twins return to Australia after 4 years college in Switzerland, indicate possible expansion of 'family' business in the region? IOT? SCS (South China Sea) area? Hang on.

Xander is about 25 years old, if I've worked it out correctly Which makes Seb about 41...

I am beginning to wonder ...

Fireworks and Civil Rights
Anton_Cloche commented on Carlos Hazday's story chapter in Fireworks and Civil Rights
Some might opine that as an author "matures" (Ozzie might say "like a good wine, 🍷they improve with age"), having a plot outline or a "Storyboard" helps keep author's mind on track. Personally, as an editor I've always suggested 'outlines / storyboards' as a tool every author, writer and journalist should keep in their 'toolkit'. Just in case. And regardless of bikes needing extra wheels. (Oww, Gibbs, stop!). -
Don't like Sudoku, but working out ages based on info provided, gaps between Xander who was 4 when Huon died suddenly at 24 (unaware of his only child), and 10 when he first met cousin Sebastian (and Seb's twin brothers Louis and Joachim - 21 in this story) in the Falklands for initial meeting and a memorial for Huon; and Sebastian was 6 years older than Huon. (NB-ANC 2). So at time of this meet up with Lloyd Group's Kip and Josh, (and 'x' years after Seb left Oz for Bern), Xander is, ... Maybe less Sudoku and more chess?

Woke 4am last Monday (Memorial Day for you) to smell of something burning, but like someone closed the fireplace flue while embers still lit. Turned out that was first of 5 days of forest fire smog and Air Quality Alert not seen in Ontario for 50 years, and ash falling. Same 'firesmog' blanketed NE U.S. As for pulling your chapters together, or at least a bit of a synopsis, it does take some time, reviewing chapters and waking sleeping brain cells. I note some GA authors do, from time to time, post a list of characters (including deceased ones), so that readers have a reference point. I throw that out like bait on the boys fishing hooks. Take care, stay well.

Interested in this exchange between restaurant guests: "Oh, I am sorry, my name is Alexander Devonport, or Xander to my friends, and this is my partner in crime and life – Langley Atkins,” came the reply and we smiled. “That is what I say when I introduce my partner in Crime and Life – Kipling Ashburton ,” Josh responded, and we all laughed about this as we shook hands". Time certainly does fly as we now see Xander Davenport in his 40's (?) with a younger "life partner" Langley Atkins. Is this just "two ships passing the night" or is Huon's son and the Wagner Group (please NO connection to certain RU Group 🙏🏼) continuing business in Australia, or might they join in this new "fishing expedition"?

Ronnie's wife will no doubt have a few thoughts on his plans. But many 'schools' can field teams of their own. Perhaps with Tommy's help, "Uncle's House" aka "The Home" can find enough boys, girls and teenagers eager to play team sports. Ronnie just needs to find leagues for them. But I suspect his own high school football program will keep him busy. GG found a way to counsel Louise on behavior in dreams 🐦, just as she has in the past, and will in the future provide guidance and assistance. As a result Louise is happier and less demanding, and now understands what David has gone through, just to be alive. And thank goodness for that. Each child, and young person, whether becoming a 'brother' to Armand and Colin, an adopted family member or a beloved niece or nephew of Uncles Armand and Colin, were special when they were taken in, and have shown they have much to offer for the future of the Rowe-Roberts clan and the wider extended family. Thank you Cal for David's smile, and the smiles you put on our faces. I hope your health is well. 🫂🤗

Well, first thank you for the feedback. Have seen many authors, (including some well known ones, names withheld by NDA), who try to reach into the reader's mind and anticipate their wants, needs and desires. I like that one of your mentions may be a throw back to MAD magazine Spy vs Spy cartoonist / author Antonio Prohías. Opinions (other than emojis) pending.

This is an interesting first book, from the two chapters read so far. As a freelance editor, I was taken aback a bit when you list 25 (somewhat) different topics / themes that this book hopes to cover. I wonder if you might just state something like: " my book hopefully offers something for everyone, please let me know if it does, in your comments (in addition to just an emoji?).

IMHO (with 'some' experience in 'Foreign Affairs' & NGOs), views of the attending SCS (South China Sea) / ASEAN leaders. (brought to conference 'securely' via submarine) would be interesting but also predictable. These close nations (plus some in Africa and developing countries) to a great extent rely on trade with China or financial backing for projects, or are pressured by China's military expansion (seen recently in aggressive 'posturing' aerial and sea 'too close for comfort" dangerous encounters'). China / Xi's vue is like your neighbour yelling at you "stay off my road" that everyone lives & travels on. Economic threats, military posturing and expansionism is, IMHO, unacceptable and should be dealt with, as Mr. Lloyd and The Lloyd Corporation is doing in this story. His 'raison d'etre' with this plan is likely the result of numerous other attempts at a negotiated agreement or MOU having failed, including those by the UN (hence their participation).
-
Kip on the left (no tats) and Joshua on right? Just my guess that Kip is the more 'conservative' or should I say 'reserved' (ergo no tats). My 🤞🏼fingers crossed is purely DFAT in mind. With Putin / Russia the saying is "Don't poke the Bear". With China / Xi, it is "Don't wake the tiger". Too late for that, as I suspect (not claiming 'inside' knowledge) it's been awake, hungry and on the prowl since long before 2012). Their deep sea dredging capabilities will again become evident (dig up, steal, examine and reverse engineer the sensors & technology you can; blow up the rest. Nothing to worry about atoll.).

While the good doctor is correct, military strategists in AUKUS (and non military employed analysts) opine that a well placed "shot across the bow" or advanced action "could push back China's aggressive intentions and serve as warning / deterrent to other adventuresome state actors". (source restricted). However window of opportunity is limited.

New Grand Wake Hotel's "safety features" starting with the water and beach access protected from 'intrusion', and those of the hotel itself, have created and ultra secure facility that looks like just an upscale resort (built on / near former DoD lands). A perfect setting for discreet meetings of VVIPs, protected from nefarious 'elements' the Lloyd family (and Australia) has encountered before. Those same 'elements' (group) won't be happy with plans "to put a stop to a certain large Asian country from continuing to ignore international law and illegally establishing bases and patrolling areas, that are not in their jurisdiction.” The fun part of Kipling and Joshua's vacation is about to begin. Let the games begin! ("Great Leader" or expendable 'Animatronic'?) *China maintains that since the seabed in "International Waters" is an extension of their 'Continental Shelf', they have unlimited rights and access to do whatever they wish, wherever they wish, without international (Western) interference, and use their military might to enforce it.

Another great chapter Cal, and many things in play with the family. Pat returns from France, perhaps a bit dejected that The Home model that works in (one part of) the States didn't work in Paris, and wouldn't likely elsewhere in France. They have a different mindset and approach to orphaned and street children, as in most countries. But Pat is welcomed with open arms and hearts. Louise's attitude stems from not being the center of attention, and Armand's 'guilt' is part of that by spoiling her. She sees David as a threat. I think a gentle reminder (a GG dream visit?) will cure that. David is a success story just beginning. Armand's painting of his parents is a huge balm for David's spirit. With tears in his eyes when given the portrait he said: “Dad, how did you know what they looked like? I have no photos.” To which Armand replied: “You look a lot like your Dad. That helped a lot.” So a photo exists of his Dad and surely one of his Mother somewhere, in an obituary or news article. Something for Colin or Richie to look into. Friends from Europe coming and going means more trips on the horizon. I love waiting in anticipation of the next chapters. Stay well.

I suspect with the image of the entire family gathered for breakfast firmly in his mind, and with help from GG and Carl, Armand will soon have it painted, framed and hung on the kitchen wall as a permanent reminder. Richie and Anne Marie had a fantastic 'family home' awaiting them, that couldn't be a better wedding present, especially for Ritchie. Glad to see Ronnie & Julie steps closer to the alter, a new threshold to cross and a football team to plan. Or at least a quarterback and receiver. Armand and Colin still have challenges, but together they will handle whatever comes their way. Nice Sunday chapter Cal. Take care.
