Just one minor detail is wrong. Yes, the V-22 can refuel in mid air, but not with the suburban underneath. A KC-10 can't fly that slow.

Is this the point where everything is going pear shaped?

Reading this and the last few chapters suddenly opened a can of worms for me. Nearly 50years of emotions just came rushing out. A lot of bad, some good ones, and the realisation that all will be alright. So onwards with this great story!

If this was the end of the story, it would have been a perfect ending. We would have a story about discovery and acceptance, an entire voyage of coming to terms with WHO you are, and leaving the petty thing behind. Now let's see what the fallout is.
