The faint aroma of brewed coffee, mixed as it was with the antiseptic particular to any hospital, was enough to keep Lyn alert. That and the way the boy beside him kept on swinging his legs against the chair.
He reached out and ruffled the boy’s hair. “You know, if you keep it up like this, your dad might have to pay for broken hospital furniture instead of that cool baseball mitt I know you’ve been eyeing since last year.”

I did intend it as a snapshot... they deserved to be happy then, and they would again. I know this scene can be interpreted in various ways, but I like to believe that it is also hopeful
Wow reaction because, well... I have to confess, I did imagine it in a very cinematic way, sort of how some series or movies would end with the credits rolling over the image, while the characters still interact on the screen... You see right through me, he-he...
We do have such moments in our lives, I believe... when we're simply happy. And I wanted to show it for these guys, too.

There had to be an expression to describe how he felt, standing in the reception area of the hospital where Alexander worked, cradling a huge bouquet of red roses in his arms, while all around him people walked with purpose, stealing curious glances at him. I'm glad you're interested in Jack! He may seem like a support character - and he'd argue that he's pretty supportive - but he's also right, front and center!
