Okay, let's see... I had no idea - when starting this story - how people will see Lyn. He is a flawed character, he doesn't make the best decisions more often than not, and yet I nurtured the hope that readers will feel sympathetic toward him, given his background. While personality matters, we can't ignore how important aspects like the environment when growing up, relationships with people most closed to us and so on are. A blend of kindness and dominance... yes, this is Alexander. And he gets kissed by Brad, oh, damn. Lyn really felt that one. And by asking Lyn for booze, Brad had unwittingly put Lyn's financial condition to the test. Brad only knows what Lyn told him, or what he vaguely let on, such as receiving expensive gifts, having the right family... At this point in the story, Brad has no idea about Lyn's money problems. It is Alexander who notices, not only because he's observant, but because he actually has money and knows how that looks. Lyn is careful to project a certain image, but not one strong enough to fool Alexander. And oh, oh, oh, 'the convenient smokescreen' - so well said. Alexander protects himself here. He is tough and cuts to the bone, but he's young here, and that's his instinct. Thank you for another in-depth analysis! It was a pleasure to read!

That's true. And I think there are plenty of people who wouldn't expose their feelings to someone if they notice that someone likes someone else... which is what I'm going for here.

I know for a fact now that readers of this story fall in two categories: those who like Alexander fiercely, and those who think he's a bit (or more) of a bastard. I like to believe he can be both Lyn's demon and a great guy Brad is... we'll see And thanks a lot for the praise! It means a lot.

The question is not addressed to me... but my intention was to have Alexander give Lyn a compliment. Maybe he just threw it in Lyn's face, though. Just saying.

He definitely is a good person, regardless of how Lyn interprets the situation. And they are friends - will become friends (in the past) because they actually like and care about each other, no matter their little frictions.

The dynamic of their friendship is essential for the story. And you're definitely right to say that Brad keeps them together. For now

He-he, I assume that he's a bit of a jerk and comes across as such, only that he is, as you say, pretty blunt, despite his words.

Lyn so wishes things to be as 'before'. But that's not possible. So he keeps on remembering his friends as they were, which may be different from what they are like now.

Don't worry! Lyn's POV dominates the page, and his being too dense for his own good - too lost in his own head - influences what's shown. The three friends share a dynamic, for sure.

Wencel basically wants someone to tell him he's right about how he chooses to proceed about the whole situation. Fueled by the desire for revenge, he still knows - something deep - that he's wrong, which is why he tries so hard to get his brother on his side. Hearst has some really clever ideas in his big bunny head. He'll surprise you, I'm sure
