Misaligned is a character-driven drama centered on three men whose lives have been intertwined since their college years: Lyn, an intelligent but emotionally unreliable narrator; Brad, charismatic and elusive; and Alexander, brilliant, disciplined, and quietly intimidating. Told through two parallel timelines, the present and a series of memory chapters, the story gradually reveals how friendship, rivalry, desire, and misunderstanding shaped their bond long before they understood what they were losing.

The dual structure allows the past to echo constantly into the present, not as nostalgia but as unresolved tension. Lyn notices details, gestures, and words with precision, yet repeatedly draws the wrong conclusions - making memory itself an active, unreliable force in the narrative. A quiet melancholy runs through the story, not as despair but as delayed understanding - the realization that clarity often arrives too late to change what mattered most.

Despite its emotional depth, Misaligned is never heavy-handed. @Laura S. Fox's writing is marked by wit and dry humor, softening the drama with sharp dialogue and human warmth. At its core, the story is not about betrayal or grand gestures, but about emotional timing - about growing out of alignment with oneself and others, and the difficult, hopeful work of realignment.

This is @Laura S. Fox ’s most accomplished work to date - confident, psychologically precise, and quietly resonant. Misaligned lingers long after the final page, carried by its melancholy, its intelligence, and its deep understanding of how love, memory, and time shape who we become.

Response from the author:

Ah, Maestro, you really made my day with this review. But again, I had high expectations and you surpassed them all. You flatter more, but more than that, you make me look at my own work with different eyes, and that says a lot. After all the labor put into a story, when readers take their time to read it so closely, there is no higher reward. Thank you!

Three friends (Brad, Lynton and Alexander) drawn together in college who go through challenges, great times, and misunderstandings which lead to an eight year span where they do not communicate but each grow in their professions and personal lives.  When one (Brad) reaches out to invite them both to his wedding, they meet once again and , in the span of a week, hit very high highs and a a very low low,  fraught with more misunderstandings, leading to another period  of silence among them.  What happens next is quite a surprise, leading to a hoped for, but unexpected, conclusion,  The back and forth between glimpses of the past and present, lead the reader to more fully understand motivations and reasons for behavior.  Superb writing and compelling reading!

Response from the author:

A very low low... that's well said!

Thank you for your kind review! It means a lot!

This as you will find out is a love story and a mystery. Lyn, Alexander and Brad attend college together. They become good friends and face emotional, romantic and personal challenges that test them and potentially strain their relationships. They are held back by misconceptions, poor communication, family background issues and sometimes pride.

Slowly the issues and reasons for potential conflict and possible solutions are revealed. You will find flashback chapters are used to better illuminate the present. Expect to be kept guessing and do not close out what might happen to these three friends are they move through college and life afterwards

You will find out the three have lots of ups and downs. I expect to will really enjoy this story, if you read it to the end.

Response from the author:

Thank you for sticking with me on this one! They were not the easiest characters to write, so I'm happy readers enjoyed their adventures and forgave their many flaws :)
