It's not the what. It's the who. I don't think you grasp the level of snark and sarcasm @spyke is capable of. Who do you think taught the level 500 course I sweated through to pass? I hope you can find a Kevlar vest in your size. You're gonna need it to deflect those word daggers coming your way.

A restaurant version will always be unhealthy. A homemade sandwich can be done so that the arteries won't clog. The worst offender is the cheese. It's always the cheese. Long live the cheese!

Ok. Very few things in this life can make me scream in fear. Spiders. Spiders can make me scream in fear. Not if I just see them hanging out somewhere outside, a respectable distance away. Not even on the ceiling inside. However, when they are the size of a small dog and you open the back door of the office and it drops down in front of your face .... Yeah. I screamed. Loudly. Birds flew away and all small creatures flee the immediate vicinity Jeezus H, I think I need a moment.

I will drop a small hint. The next chapter is going to be

The one in front has a look on her face that says "Get me out of this effing car. Enough already." Omg...they are deceivingly adorable!

Glad you weathered the storm okay. While I love watching thunder and lighting, it gets scary when it starts to hail and even scarier when the sky turns a sickly greenish-yellow. That usually means tornado warning. I've gotten plenty of weather alerts on my phone when I was in Florida. I'm happy not to be there this time of year. I looked at their 10 day forecast, hot, humid and thunderstorms everyday. It's typical. The storms roll in during the later afternoon or early evening and come and go pretty quickly leaving it more humid than before. Today I am enjoying cool temperatures but it's overcast. We haven't seen the sun in three days. The sun is supposed to reappear tomorrow, chance of rain Saturday and Sunday is supposed to be gorgeous; mostly sunny and 73F. Have a good day everyone!

I wouldn't consider this chapter the end of 'book 1', they still have a little bit of growing pains to get through. After the next chapter it'll be clearer. They are definitely moving forward into a new stage of their lives. You're right about that. I like that you used the word navigate. It's appropriate.

A good Monte Cristo should be three slices of Texas toast or any thick cut white bread and made into French toast. Thin sliced ham and turkey, make sure it's not that crappy stuff that comes in plastic containers. Leftover turkey and ham from a holiday dinner is the best. Swiss cheese and either real maple syrup or raspberry jam. The proper stack is : Slice of French toast, slice of Swiss, lots of ham, slice of Swiss, slice of French toast, slice of Swiss, lots of turkey, slice of Swiss, slice of French toast. Everything should be HOT. Do not eat that bad boy right away. Let it sit so the cheese gets melty. Eat it while still warm. If you like real maple syrup, warm that stuff up before dipping each bite of sandwich in it! If you like jam, room temp is best and use a knife to dab a little bit of it on each bite. Monte Cristo etiquette, people...use it! You're welcome.

Miles never allowed himself to dream about college. Before the ranch, he was living day by day. He's right in thinking it's a waste of money to attend college if you don't know what you want to do. College in the US is exorbitantly expensive, especially as an out-of-state resident, and even though he has the money, he is savvy enough at his age not to waste it. He was brought up living the low-income life and doesn't want to go back. So for him, not going is the right choice. Theres another reason too which you'll find out soon.

Yaaaasssssss!!!!! I prefer my with a side of real maple syrup to dip the sandwich instead of jelly, but I will have that in a pinch. Bennigan's used to have one that was battered and deep fried. An instant artery clogger but damn it tasted good!

Quick update on the MIL. She had an elevated heart rate this morning so they transferred her to the cardiac floor for medical management. PT got her up and walking a few steps and her mental status is back to being closer to her baseline. The Gavel Sisters (nickname hubby gave them because they are so judgemental) went to check out a nursing home that has a skilled nursing bed available. It was quote "everyone was nice, the residents seemed pretty content, but didn't love it, and it's far." Ummm... You take what you can get nowadays and if the residents didn't look neglected then consider it a win. I think they're both being pissy because they want something closer to them. Tough. Do what's right and get your mother the rehab she needs. Too bad if you have to drive 45 minutes. You're retired. Both of you. Deal with it. Jesus H. They are unreal. But at least they're the ones dealing with it. Hubs and I are staying in our little corner and zipping our lips. Hope the rest of the week goes well for everyone.

Yes. Yep. We'll go with that. I make a mean onion soup and I love Monte Cristo sandwiches. Mmmm..

Thank you much. I think you'll be surprised at the direction Troy's artistic career take him. I did look him up and damn...some really really beautiful paintings he's created.

It had to happen sometime. And this story does have the tag coming of age.
