  1. Val, if I've told you once, I must have told you a million times:
  2. Same here, Gary. At least the watching the pennies part. My siblings and myself will often reminisce about some of mum's recipes, particularly the ones where she was using ingredients that were cheap for whatever reason (maybe a glut, or just a special offer), or using up food that was getting ready to spoil (her bread and butter pudding to use up stale bread was to die for), or leftovers (chicken broth, bubble & squeak, and potato cakes from yesterday's uneaten boiled spuds, come to mind). We sometimes kick ourselves that we never got the recipes for some of the dishes from her. I have tried making bread and butter pudding - I've even tried store purchased varieties. But, as Sinead O'Connor famously sang: Nothing Compares.
  3. Hi, Albert! That's certainly good to hear!
  4. I'm assuming (because I've never heard the term before) that kernel corn is what we would call sweetcorn this side of the pond...
  5. Hi, Gary! Sounds delish!
  6. My mum's version of shepherd's pie (and her version of cottage pie, which is basically the same recipe, except it has minced [ground] beef instead of mutton or lamb) always included peas. For some strange reason, I suspect your won't, Val...
  7. Good morning, adi.
  8. Amuses me that the word can have two almost contradictory definitions: either look at in detail, or just look at casually...
  9. Welcome, Sam!
  10. I had leftover chicken breast with steamed potatoes and carrots and a side-salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, celery, hard boiled egg, and boiled baby beetroot. Will either make a stew or a casserole later with what's left of the roast chicken. Whichever I choose, I shall be able to freeze what I don't eat tonight for a quick and handy meal or two at some later date.
  11. Love it, Gary! [EDIT] (Although I think it would have worked even better had the horse's ears been totally visible - and the same for Cookie's tail and paws.)
  12. An excellent choice of subject for the first ever shot!
  13. Shocking, but not all that surprising, unfortunately.
  14. I think there are a lot of people feeling exactly the same during these strange times. Hope this will do instead:
  15. Hey, bro. Fingers crossed the day stays that way for you.
  16. Hello, young fellow.
  17. G'day, dughlas. The morning here has been reasonably warm and sunny. But Met Éireann (the Irish Weather Service) have issued a Status Orange warning that my county (and others) could experience intense thundery downpours today, in excess of 50mm (2 inches), which may lead to surface flooding. Currently 13:36 hours, and no sign of rain yet....
  18. For some reason, the first part of your reply reminded me of the following Scottish saying: Here's to you, as good as you are, And here's to me, as bad as I am. But as bad as I am, and as good as you are, I'm as good as you are, as bad as I am. I've heard it used as a toast, instead of simply "Cheers!"
  19. What is? I didn't realise I'd asked a question...
  20. I'm so sorry to hear that news, clo. Take all the time that you need. I find it difficult to know just what to say at times like this, but please know that I am thinking of you.
  21. I think you're right about that, bro. It's a common trick used by some guys online to make a certain part of their anatomy look much bigger than it really is...
  22. It happened last Monday. I'm not going to comment much, as it may get into what GA would consider a political post. It appears the restaurant owner discharged his own, legally held, firearm first. What appears not to be clear is whether he was aware of the fact that the people shooting (pepper balls, apparently) at his restaurant were actually members of the police force and the National Guard... An extremely sad occurrence.
  23. I used to make a lot of both. Still have the equipment but, as I very seldom drink alcohol these days, I hardly ever make either any more. Hi, young man. Having a bit of a quiet day today. Hope yours is going good.
