That's a good way to tie them together. "emerge" is a pretty apt description of what both Harry and Joe did. You're right concerning relationships. It's like trying to make ourselves fit a mold that is snapping and breaking all around us. Then we feel broken and strange for things not working how they "should". Finally, hopefully, we make it to the point where Pete is. Where we say "Okay. I'm doing this my way, and I'm going to find someone who accepts that." Thanks, Quixo. I like this format too! 🙂

First: FYI - we're currently in a drought here in Northern California. So, unfortunately this is all too real. Though, weirdly, it's raining right now. Heh. Second: I hear you, and don't worry. Joe and Jake are going to reappear. It may not be in the next story, but they will. Third: Yes. Mr. Pete. He will not go ignored, eh? He's not all about sex; he's about freedom. His dream relationship is one that lets him be free, yet offers stability and safety too. And with Russell they have that in one another. A rare gift. Fourth: I'm 46 and my husband is 52. So I do agree. 🙂 You're welcome. Thank you for reading, kbois!

I love the pinball that is Pete. 😄 And I'm glad Joe and Jake resonate so well. That moment with Pete ... where he refused to be Joe's first "real" kiss. Well, Pete showed himself to be special in recognizing that he wasn't who Joe should remember when he thinks back on his first kiss with a man. Pete's a horndog, but he's caring and insightful too. And it's funny when characters do things like this. Sometimes they surprise me, and Pete did. He has earned a spot on the "will likely return" list. Next time, with a certain as yet unseen husband in tow. Joe and Jake too deserve some additional love on the screen. I've suddenly got a lot to do ... Thanks, spyke! 🙂

I had no idea Pete would be so fun to write. And I could imagine him attempting seduction at every turn. "Uh, thanks, but I have a husband." "Great! Bring him!" LOL. Once he has been turned down, he reacts with grace, but he's gonna give it a shot. 😄 Joe and Jake will get more screen-time. There are not enough stories with guys like Joe, and there need to be. Though, the continuation may venture out of the campground and into their own little spin-off story. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the read and for the comments!

Thanks! Joe has been in hell, largely resulting from his upbringing and the desperate need to conform. It's a sad situation, but it's one he's beginning to figure a way through. It really did take both his interaction with the unstoppable, vibrant Pete, and the rest of the campers to get to this new place in his personal development. He has some work ahead, but ... maybe he can get some help from his buddy Jake.

Thanks, Chris! Pete was so fun to write. And yes, he and Russell are happy with their lives together, and that's what matters. I think there are not enough stories out there starring older guys. Joe and men like him are a huge slice of our population, yet we just don't see them portrayed often. His circumstance isn't so uncommon, either. So ... we'll likely come back to him. 🙂

Thanks for reading, and for the comment, tim! Haha. Yes. Mr. Pete absolutely makes his own rules in the game of life. Though, Russell knows this, accepts it, and this aspect is a part of who they are as partners. Jake and Joe are going to be fun. They're very different. Joe is further along in years, but Jake is a huge leap ahead of him in terms of acceptance and happiness with himself. It will make for interesting writing when I revisit them. Maybe Jake can teach Joe a few things. We'll just have to see. 🙂

"I've always suspected, you know." The words fell from lips that barely moved, spoken as if through tremendous effort. She stood just inside the doorway and drew in a deep drag, the tip of her cigarette glowing red. Smoke flowed from her mouth to gather in a pool on the bedroom ceiling, and she stared up at it. She completely ignored Eric as he scrambled from the room, still pulling on his pants. She'd known. Of course, she'd known. Joe sat up in bed, clutching the sheet covering his l
  10. Hello, all. It's a sunny day here on the northern coast of California, and my lizard of a husband is debating going to the beach after his workday. Not that he's cold-blooded. I'd never call him that. Not where he can hear me. 😛 I hope you're all having a great day!

Thanks! There’s more to come - additional little one-shots at the campground. So stay tuned!

Thanks, Jeffrey! I’m happy to know Troy and Grant deserved a second go-around. 🙂

  15. I'm interested. I'll toss my hat in when it's time. Did those submission/voting details get handled, and I missed them somewhere?

Thanks for the nice comment, Tom. You're right, of course. Within minutes of arrival, these seekers run into people who can provide answers. And even those knowing the answers get something out of the deal too (because helping others, and connecting are rewards in themselves). That said, I don't think it's a far stretch to imagine that progressive, caring parents will take their gay kids to a gay-friendly campground. No doubt, Gus was a godsend to Harry. A beautiful, confident, slightly more experienced kid right there. Well. That's a hard thing to ignore. 🙂 Yes ... I know. Hint, hint. 😛 I hear you. hehehe.

Thank you, teaso. "Tender" is a word that has been used a few times to describe the story. And it fits. Sweet, gentle, careful, tender. I like how it turned out. I'm glad you took it for a read.
  20. The Farm is a wonderful stand-alone story. It's a tale of taking chances, learning to believe, and the act of allowing love to bloom. Though it's nice as it is, should more chapters appear, I'd certainly read and enjoy them. 🙂 Nice job, tim.

Thanks, mayday. I always knew these little moments happened in the background while the lives of our regulars went on as well. Yet now the focus has shifted to our visitors, with only small cameos from our camp hosts. And I like it! Longer stories will come, but yeah. For now, I am going to do a few of these, just to get this out of my system. 🙂 And who doesn't want to read a story about unconditional love?

I'm so happy you think so. And yeah! I have to say that I agree. 🙂 Thanks, Bft!

Thanks, Clancy! You're right. The campground sees so many visitors come through. Most aren't in crisis. Most are there to have a good time, and to spend it relaxing in a place where they can just be themselves. But some are like Harry. And I'll admit, those are the most interesting stories to me; those that show the power of acceptance and belonging. So that's likely what we'll see the most of here with these little stories. Gus and Harry turned out to be sweet, interesting boys. Their parents are wonderful too. It's hard not to love all of them, I think. I will do my best to keep things coming. I have at least one idea that's getting more detailed as time goes, though it may end up being a couple of chapters vs one. 🙂

Thanks, JeffreyL. They've been so worried for him, and did everything they could to help him know it would be okay. That he would still be loved, accepted, and valued. Not all of us get that, but some do. And both Gus and Harry are some of the lucky ones.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Quixo! Yes, there wasn't likely too much doubt where we were going here. This one, really, is about the journey there. There's no surprise, just us observing a young man finding peace with who he is, and realizing he doesn't have to pretend anymore. There's something sweet about that.
