However, what you've pointed out isn't really an error, at least not in my understanding. My husband and I are Wiccan,and we both call ourselves Witches. As do most of the male Wiccan's I've met. So that's why my characters are Witches, it's what I know. My husband is actually a natural Witch, gets it from his Mom.
It's my guess that back in that century men felt the need to separate themselves from the female practitioners. I've never delved into it, so it's just my educated guess that it wouldn't have been very masculine in those days for men to be called a Witch.
It's generally said that all Wiccan's are Witches, but not all Witches are Wiccan. Which happens to be a true statement, especially when you consider not all Witches follow the Wiccan creed of Do what ye will, harm none.
