    Late March

I like how things are progressing Toph has some positive moments (remembering Merle and the sale of the painting) and then some stressful times as he tries to complete his portfolio. Gary seems to know just how to balance him so he can continue to develop as both an artist and as a person. I wonder what will happen when Toph's brother Charles contacts him? Overall, the birthday seems to have gone well Best of all, we've got two weeks coming up of Toph and Gary together on vacation! I can't wait, even though I have to
  2. Thank you! Yes, I had a great day. Simply being home was nice, everything else was a bonus.

    Chapter 8

Thank you! I did have one beta-reader express concern about the interactions between Stuart and Ty. Ty slammed Stuart up against the wall twice. The beta-reader asked me to confirm that the wall wasn't hurt...

    Chapter 8

I thought the same thing. Indeed, one of my beta-readers pointed out that the club's policy is probably illegal in Victoria. My response was that since no one is likely to complain, they can get away with it. As a fallback, they can say that they encourage the security guard at the front door to discourage straights from entering, but he's not actually allowed to stop them if they insist. If he does, well, people misinterpret company policy all the time Yes, I'm using the actual 2014 draft order in the story, as it will be after all trading is completed. I'll give a link in a future chapter so you'll see it at about the same time the characters know what the final draft order will be.

    Chapter 8

Having spent decades in the closet, I know how Ross is feeling. I believe it's easier for young people today, but it's still not easy. Ross's problems are not the normal ones -- fear of losing friends and family -- but more that he feels that his hopes and dreams of being in the AFL will be threatened if he comes out. That particular fear is unique to a small group, but it's still real. And that fear builds up, as you've indicated. What happens next may be different for each person, but the pressure needs to be relieved...somehow.

    Chapter 8

Thank you. Ross was hoping for a third option (between being outed and forced to have Stuart as a boyfriend) and it looks like he may have stumbled into it. As for what happens next...we'll have to wait and see
  7. Happy Birthday, Cole! :joe: :joe:

    Chapter 8

Alex goes overboard with the teasing, but he and Tony are still good friends. As for age, Alex is at best a year older than Ty and Deon (he's a second year university student, so he's probably twenty). Ethan is a bit older. Thanks for the great review but I can't comment on parts of it...sorry

    Chapter 8

Now why would Kevin be going to a gay nightclub...?

    Chapter 8

Ross mentally berated himself for telling Wu and Lauren that he was going on a date. He hadn’t expected to see them and hadn’t prepared a lie. All he could come up with at the spur of the moment was a version of the truth and then work hard to keep secret the fact that the date was with Stuart. The only saving grace was that he had implied that he would only tell them the name of the date if it worked out. He could always tell them that it didn’t, though he suspected that the two would then ret
  11. Non-speaking teenager wrote an incredibly profound letter explaining autism Having had some involvement with people on the autism spectrum, as well as attending a few seminars, this story really hits home. Autism is still misunderstood by so many people.
  12. This has to qualify: how can a mile of pizza not be good news?

    Chapter 29

I really enjoyed reading this story (again). Curtis still has a lot of growing up and learning to do, but then most of us at that age did, too. Casey's finally found somewhere where he can be himself, and Lane now has the big brother he needed to give him the confidence and support he needed to let him sing his own song. Thank you, Ron.

    Chapter 27

A beautiful ending to the chapter. Thank you!

    Chapter 26

Skinny's right that for Curtis to say he didn't want to hang around gay guys because people might think he's gay, but then to turn around and start hanging around Joshua -- it doesn't make sense. Of course, inconsistencies and not making sense is part of what makes us human. I'm glad to see Curtis finally joining the human race.

    Chapter 21

All these reviewers who think Joshua is going to be trouble... So judgemental off so little evidence... (which makes me a hypocrite because I happen to agree with them)

    Chapter 19

Casey's obviously getting more relaxed about being gay and potentially being out. He's effectively out to two of his brothers now, and obviously everyone in drama. He's also shown Pip sympathy about what he saw, and was implicitly (even if he may not have realised it) asking Pip to do the same for him when he eventually comes out.

    Chapter 18

Things are certainly getting complicated, but that's life. Most situations aren't simple. People certainly aren't.

    Chapter 16

The coach is described early in the story as being young. It's clear he still has a lot to learn. One of those lessons is when to not be the nice guy. Because he was too lenient, Mike and Curtis haven't had a reason to change their ways.

    Chapter 14

And the truth about Shade begins to dawn on Casey... I also get the impression that Casey's view of the school hierarchy (with him at the bottom as the new kid) isn't the reality. His teachers and the principal seem more inclined to believe him that Casey thought would be the case in an earlier chapter.
  21. Graeme

    Chapter 12

Casey is slowly climbing down from his high horse. He's just discovered that he has more in common with his father than he realised...even if it's only a mutual nemesis
  22. Graeme

    Chapter 11

I'm so glad that Casey ended up in new classes, especially since Shade and Megan are also doing drama. Since Casey's fight has been escalated to the principal, I wonder if Mr. Wentworth ended up in trouble? He'd certainly have some explaining to do...
  23. Graeme

    Chapter 9

Lane is Casey's rock. Without Lane, he wouldn't have anyone. That means that threats to Lane are threats to Casey, and that's exactly how Casey is taking it, even if doesn't realise it himself. Casey's never been a big brother before and I think he likes the job
  24. Graeme

    Chapter 8

As I said with last chapter's review: Casey is impulsive. Sometimes that impulse is wrong (like trying to run away) and sometimes it's right (like giving that money to Shade, as otherwise he'd use it to run away).
  25. Graeme

    Chapter 7

Casey's got a short temper, a tendency to jump to conclusions, and is very impulsive. Despite all of that, I still like him. The way he interacts with Lane is his saving grace
