    Means to an End

And so the nightmare begins. I half expected Basingstoke to be concealed on board waiting to decapitate them at sea and throw their bodies overboard. The assassin has had time to at least plant a gps tracking device on board, so there should be no escaping his clutches now. That final rendition was creepy as. Whose "goin a waltzing matilda with me."?
  2. Amazing writing Gary @Headstall. So much revealed in a single chapter too. For so long, Trent was confronted with the wall that Armie seemed destined never to relinquish. The tide of rejection was incessant and I was inexorably waiting for Trent to accept his losses. Then before I knew it, they had accepted themselves as a couple and living the dream. A quite amazing thing for me, was that I couldn't tell you when that switch had occurred. Just that we now surfing upon the crest of a wave, witnessing a relationship that was as destined to succeed as it has once appeared certain to fail. Captivating stuff Gary

    Judas

Glad to see things are livening up. Lisa and Joel are finally questioning Bridgets integrity for the first time. Trevor and Shane are set up for a great break in the National Park, free from all the worries of being hunted. Maybe Bridget and George may not get to condemn Lisa and Joel to lives behind bars as people close in on their schemes.

    Bull Dust

A bit of filling before the Outback Adventure. Kangaroo Farm lol.
  5. It's all a bit nerve-wracking having Basingstoke, a trusted security systems installer, for the place Trevor must return to. And there's the old hag celebrating with her cognac. So help me! Ned is such a rip-off merchant. Incredibly, he's actually going to make a profit from that security installation, by the time the Service, Trevor's insurance and even Basingstoke have all contributed their part towards it. Fun read, as much as it can be, given the direness of the situation.

    What Goes Up….

Seemingly, Basingstoke was not fully prepared to handle all eventualities at the yard. While he made good on a narrow escape, we hope that sort of sloppiness will help Trevor, further down the line. But for now, his background security company appears to have lead the officers off his scent. Plus the Assassin knows that if all else fails, Trevor is likely to be returning to the yard at some point. Nevertheless, there is a real and ever present danger closing in on Trevor. Such an exciting plot.
  7. The amount of detail that went into all of the actual locations in this story, is simply astonishing. Hope everyone in the area is back up and running again soon.
  8. Quite an achievement to have maintained such a riveting description for what could have been a ponderous boat journey up river, on a moonless, rainy night. If you can make this interesting then you can surely make, many another subject interesting too. So what can Trevor and Shane possibly do for the next day or two that will allow them to keep their heads down, remain low and of sight?

    Getting Warmer

Good to see Gonzalez closing in on George and Bridget. I laughed at all the warnings not to give locations over the phone. Then Fowler gives the most detailed description of an approach to a river and completes it with the comment: "Geraldton is the same, and Fremantle, closest to the amphidromic point, has diurnal tides too, but the amplitude is more like fifteen centimeters.” Any assassin worth his salt would find that place on a chart. Maybe it's a setup to catch the killer. If not its pretty dumb.
  10. Well Kline acquitted himself well. He came up with a story that shouldn't harm Trevor's current whereabouts. That's largely down to Foster's excellent handling of the situation. Ned is having to tone it down considerably, now that he has given vent to his uncontrolled hatred of Shane and harmed Trevor: his valued client for the next four months. And just as all was going swimmingly, there pops up Basingstoke and Sanchez, to remind us of how closely lurks this fatal threat. The concern is that Trevor isn't really aware of how serious or imminent, the threat to his life is, or if it really exists at all. That's worrying as he heads to Perth to meet the much heralded arrival of Joel and Lisa.
  11. Maybe this is one of the links you referred to. https://hornet.com/stories/wild-west-gay-history/ Areas of California with 90% male populations, all male dances and organised "Renaissance Pleasure Trips". You can only wonder at what William Drummond Stewart did to get kicked out of America for good.
  12. I suspect that while most communities had their holy Joe's, most townsfolk were hard pressed to make ends meet and had their fair share of family skeletons locked in the cupboard. Husbands and possibly wives who were given to lapses of drinking, infidelity and whatever else that the town parson may have preached about, as inappropriate, from the pulpit. So I imagine there was a good deal of tolerance of things that were kept out of sight and mind. No one wishing to cast the first stone. Folk would know of some spinsters and bachelors who had lived together most their lives and had never got married. It would have been easier and more Christian, to imagine they were unfortunate enough to never met the right partner or were too pre-occupied in their work. The fact that there was little or no evidence of a witch hunt of gay people in itself suggests that they were largely left to themselves.
  13. I too was thinking a werewolf setting would have been perfect 🐺 But now that it has been written, it's impossible to imagine it any other way. These scenes are too indelibly etched into the mind: The opening saloon scene, Boone's tender years growing up in the brothel, and the whole life outdoors panning for gold, the Sheriff's office scenes and of course, Boone's main driver, to ranch in the wilderness and the whole trip North (east). I think a significant part of the story was directed specifically towards how life may have been for homosexuals growing up in the wild West. It would be interesting if Gary managed to unearth anything recorded about that, as part of his research. From what we hear on TV, it seems that at least some Native American communities openly embraced their gays, in those days.
  14. Damn. I even commented that the use of that driving license would make Trevor easily traceable. It's sickening how smug and self-satisfied the miscreants have all become, as they relish the thought of decapitating an innocent young lad. Even Basingstoke got lucky with his coin toss and choice of location. His smile at the thought of how he could make a beheading look like a suicide, is pure twisted. I'm pretty sure this is not what I signed up for when I started reading this story. I now need to find Trevor's mobile quick and tell him to get the fuck out of there. 😠
  15. At long last, Trevor has stopped passing on his location to the loose tongued lovebirds. That's a good start. I'm less happy about them planning to rent out a car, as that makes them more traceable. Basingstoke is likely only a few days away from hearing news of Trevor's arrival into Aus and unfortunately it might not be long before he spots his location from the air. I'm looking forward to Joel and Lisa sharing the boat with Trevor and Shane, if that ever happens.

    Pshrinkage

Everything planned for the day seemed to go as well as it could do. The old adage that absence makes the heart grow fonder, is certainly true in the case of our two budding lovers. I'm impressed by the historical details of HMAS Sydney and the German Ship Komoran and the road lined with over 600 trees: one for each of the deceased. I'm just not inspired by the name of the next chapter: From bad to worse. That could almost make a better title for this entire story

    Mr. Smith

Maybe, just maybe, Lisa being the leak of Rachel Smith's name, is now surfacing on people's radar. Kline bit off more than he can chew when he tried to outsmart Fowler, whose as sharp as a whistle. At least it tipped off Trevor as to the dangers of his whereabouts being known. It's all developing at a fascinating pace.

    Back in Command

After step or so forward, this chapter felt like two steps back. Really concerned that Trevor is about to spill everything to Joel and Lisa, including his location, at the guest house tomorrow.
  19. I can only applaud the authors ability to create a truly palpable and credible suspense for Trevor's inevitable beheading. In so many other such thrillers you would deem that's never going to happen. But here, having witnessed Sanchez's brutal and ruthless determination to kill all obstacles in his path, you can't imagine how Trevor can possibly survive all this. As for Barney's duplicity in getting the Captain to help under the guise of saving Trevor's life; that's about as contemptible as it gets. A truly great chapter.

Beginning to see that there's some depth to their relationship.

    Tangled Webs

There's a clear change of tack in this chapter and the storyline is heading on a new exciting course. No longer are Bridget and George in total control and there's a sense that the hunters are about to become the hunted. Even Joel and Lisa are wising up about Bridget after so many months. The security measures deployed for Bridget's boat clearly demonstrate that she has something very serious to hide. Henry and Gonzalez know they're on the right tracks now. But the real concern is once again for Trevor, now that news of his Atlantis is in the open and Sanchez is on the prowl. Exciting times again.

    Ultimate Designs

Well I'm with Trevor. I'll need a lot more convincing than just this. 😉
  23. Well its more of the same between Trevor and Shane/Joel. Not sure where the story is heading just now.

    Getting Closer

Well I know they say hindsight is a wonderful thing but, if i was Trevor I wouldn't be mentioning Carnarvon to anyone at this stage. Surely he must realise that someone is finding his location, whoever that may be. And where better to look than the people who Trevor most trusts with that confidence: Lisa and Joel. It's up to Trevor to wise up and prevent anyone knowing and possibly leaking that information. Good to see that Trevor has realised his folly, using severe traumatic memories to manage his arousal. Most of us use taxes for that kind of thing. 😉
  25. Trevor knowing that his actions killed the demon of his nightmares has got to be great step on the road to recovery. But it surely needs to be supported by professional help. So Shane turns out to be a second Joel in almost every respect: looks and taste for girls but also his concern for Trevor. Its really frustrating that Gonzalez couldn't have simply added don't tell anyone not even Joel and Lisa. We just don't know whose listening to who right now and your life may even depend upon it. Yay, I've halfway circumnavigated my way around this story. The solution is clearly not going to be as straight-forward as we may have been being led to believe
