  1. Mattyboy

    Chapter 8

Matt got out, right? He had to get out of town. Good for Clovis, he's spent years doing good, and now the karmic payback of some entertaining fun! (Which he's promised not to talk about, but it's well-deserved)

    Chapter 16

re: sad emoji @Krista ; your characters don't have to live like this, you know. In a @Lee Wilson story Lisa Benton would have faced serious narrative consequences by now. If not murder, at least struck by lightning or something.
  3. Mattyboy

    Chapter 30

Yay for Mom's research. Call your Grandma, Jack. At the start of the next chapter.
  4. Mattyboy

    Chapter 16

We live in a fallen world where the wicked prosper and the faithless live at ease.
  5. Mattyboy

    Chapter 5

Ooh, so the money thing is real. I was 50/50 on that last chapter. Hehe, Steve coming out to Dad and Clovis just being "oh, this again."
  6. Mattyboy

    Chapter 16

Lisa may be an empty-nester very soon. This would be very good for Cody, because he'd get Joel and nice at the Connley's is lot better than toxic at the Benton house. Also Cody keeps running off into some fields, he might really enjoy the farm and riding horses around. Lacey is a bit older than Cody?

    Chapter 16

It could well be Westley that the cops are going for.
  8. Mattyboy

    Chapter 16

Yay, awful with Lisa as usual but some excellent moving-forward developments now. 🐯🐯🐯 🦅
  9. Mattyboy

    Chapter 4

And Kenny knows that for sure, of course, because Steve is a reliable narrator?
  10. Mattyboy

    Chapter 29

Everybody seemed to want to talk about plumbing problems and um, ventilation, but yes, I was hoping she was working on legal ways to keep Jack in Michigan
  11. Mattyboy

    Chapter 29

Yay Tommy. And good for Mom doing some "research." It's high time for that.
  12. Mattyboy

    Chapter 3

Teachers are supposed to be looking for that kind of pattern, but YMMV. Greenwood would have (and if he hasn't yet, I suspect he will).

    Chapter 2

So, after a bit of digging, Jensen was a named minion on the dark side, but it was never really clear if he was just going along with the group or had his own ideas and agency. So this is pretty open ended a generation later, maybe he matured a bit. Perhaps Greenwood knows better (as was his wont). Oh and I see Clovis chose the side of good, a generation back. Chapter 2

Oh I remember I liked Mr Greenwood. Ugh, now I have to go look up Jason Jensen. Carter's Shadow, right?
  15. Mattyboy

    Chapter 27

Nothing much. Noah's complaint that Nick wasn't putting out isn't something you can take to the dean.
  16. Mattyboy

    Chapter 1

This sounds fun! I liked Lydia's intervention with Steve too, about how welcome it was going to be for Steve to shake up Kenny's life. People thinking "coming-out will be fun and easy and safe for everyone" is a peeve of mine. (and a relief for the story telling too, looks like you're skipping 5 chapters of dead-end subplot, which I'm good with)

    Part 3

I think mine is better, but you do you.
  18. Mattyboy

    Part 3

Does Matt Ashby's story have a working title? may I suggest The Worst Year ?
  19. Mattyboy

    Chapter 28

The behavior of the stinky Mr Johnston seems like it might be an real danger to the boys. Charitably, I think maybe Johnston can also be explained as merely having an eccentric interest in fermented foods and going for a misguided attempt to mimic "cartoon TV Dad" behavior through fart jokes and ugly sweaters. It's a bad miscalculation of the boys' social world, but I think I can see someone could slide into that mindset.
  20. Mattyboy

    Chapter 28

Oh excellent, I'm glad Nick came to his senses about Jack coming with him over the break. And the stinky Mr Johnston stayed below the criminal bar.
  21. Flawed-but-good characters work through their issues and problems and overcome obstacles to their happiness in a classic but also very fresh manner. Very well paced and some really interesting ideas in the sticker-art subplot. The comments section debate over the possibly cryptic meaning of the title is also worth a visit !
  22. Mattyboy

    Chapter 15

Maybe? I sure hope so. There's still the ominous title to consider; Joel has refused to talk a few times and mumbled and dissembled a couple of times, but he hasn't really lied about anything important yet.
  23. Mattyboy

    Chapter 15

I feel the little paragraph that included "...the reason I couldn’t tell Celia was because me being too scared to see her reaction. That I wasn’t supposed to be clinging to her like a mother when she wasn’t one to me" could have sped things up a lot for us if that come up in Chapter 9 or so.
  24. Mattyboy

    Chapter 15

Well it's about time! Yay Davin and good for Colt.
  25. Mattyboy

    Chapter 27

Jonah's also a smart small kid who wants into the older boys' social circle. He might have learned this with Christian; if he wants to hang around bigger kids, he's gotta make himself interesting. You can get better at banter with practice, and Jonah also seems to have practiced when to flounce off for effect. So, I see this as Jonah going with a winning strategy. Manic does describe him pretty well, but it doesn't need to be a pathology.
