Deep in the distance, the young boy could hear the mumbling from the crowd as his eyes focused and zeroed in on reality. "James...JAMES!" He heard his manager yell from the back of the main counter at the coffee shop. There he stood, tray in hand, completely zoned out, in the middle of the shop amidst a busy and unbearably chatty crowd at lunch hour. "Sorry. On it!" He yelled, rushing to one of the tables in the back where two gay guys rolled their eyes impatiently, gesturing for

[8 Months Earlier] The capsized car's wheel still spun as the air stood still on that narrow road. Ash-colored fumes belched from under it, coating the air with a soft, eerie mist. The large truck's door opened, and a shocked and distraught young man sprang out, rushing for the car and kneeling as he closed in on it. He stuck his head down, trying to peek inside. "Fuck, I'm so sorry!" He hollered as he saw Samuel's head turned upside down, his eyes gaping as he stared at the young

David could feel the cold morning breeze on the other side of the window glass as he leaned his head against it. His eyes glanced through as Samuel veered the car into his grandparents' driveway, stopping just in front of their house. He turned the engine off and slanted into his seat, allowing a deafening stillness to take over. David kept staring out the window, his face concealed by his hoodie. "David, we're here." Samuel uttered, unsure if the boy was awake or not. "Yeah." David re

Samuel sat silently in an empty office room, gazing at the window when the door finally opened. An older man, well-presented, carrying a notebook and a pen in his hand, came in and sat opposite him. "Sorry for the delay Samuel. Traffic was chaotic." The man apologized. "It's ok." Samuel uttered, his eyes still latched on the window. The man took a deep breath as he fidgeted in his seat. His body finally came to a stop as he opened his notebook and took a pair of glasses from the pocket

Dear Dan, the perks of a second reading! 📚
-
Samuel sat there, looking vacantly out the window, his arms stretched and his fingers fidgeting as they coasted over the keyboard on his laptop. "Fuck." He uttered, with a frustrated tone. Samuel had been trying to start his new book for over a week, but the term "writer's block" would be considered an understatement given his situation. Samuel was 32 years old and already a successful author, with four books published, two of which were bestsellers. He had been gradually feeling the p

It was the darkest night Jacob had ever witnessed. And the stillness it harbored was both soothing and unsettling. As the pickup truck pulled into the cabin's driveway, Jacob could see Sylas sitting on the small steps just outside the front door, his back hunched, looking defeated. Jacob and Casey stepped outside just as Sylas stood up, his eyes welling up at the sight of Jacob. Through his apparent despair, a smile erupted. Jacob walked up to him and placed his hand on his shoulder. They stared

Although death is always painful, Christian lived a full life and was able to finally embrace his love. As far as our boy Jacob is concerned, he may have a heavy cross to bare, sure. But time will show how resilient his heart really is. He said it himself. If you carry the love inside, it never truly dies...😉

Truthfully, it had been a while since I had sat and read this chapter. As I edited it before posting, I realized it is very much my "love letter" to Jacob and Christian's relationship. Definitely a highlight from my "Men Of Honor" writing experience.

[The year 2023] The city's central park beamed with life. Children ran around playing hide and seek while young couples walked with their hands held, and people of an older age sat on benches, reminiscing on the vibrancy of the life they once had. "There used to be a lake down there, did you know?" The elderly female said, peeking at Jacob, who sat next to her husband, his hands in his pockets, wearing these huge sunglasses, his left leg crossed over his right. "I didn't, no." Jac
