    Chapter 15

I'm not sure it's even that close, but we'll see. Btw, Chapter 44 comes out in less than 12 hours, so at the rate you're going, you should be caught by by then. 😁

    Chapter 11

Kenny and Bryan are, well, you'll see soon enough. 😁
  4. John Henry

    Chapter 11

Yes. Bryan wasn't about to mince words.
  5. John Henry

    Chapter 10

It's, um, something like that. 😁

    Chapter 43

Thank you @Summerabbacat for the complement. I think you'll really enjoy the next "filler chapter" I specially prepared for you, @Dan South and a few others. 😁 The disliking of James was set up for his redemption at some point, and this seemed to come about naturally within the narrative. James has a good heart and intensions, but sometimes his impulsivity gets the better of him. Nice catch regarding Caleb's new attitude towards Calvin. Caleb is a "once bitten, twice shy" kinda kid, and that second encounter made him jumpy, and the remaining visits didn't help...but that'll be for another filler. 😏

    Chapter 43

You might want to pay attention to Monday, next Saturday and Sunday....

    Chapter 43

Yeah, Ry has had a lot of ups and downs in some great extremes. Ry's very tough, though. That's an interesting idea regarding Billy investigating the judge, but I already have the ending figured out. It's just a matter of getting there.

    Chapter 43

Maybe if you weren't so busy listening to squirrel's nut, you might have paid a little more attention to where things were going. 😜 Again, the things James said need to be put out there. Everyone else is willing to give Bryan the space he needs to figure it out on his own with a little help. Unfortunately (or fortunately in this case), James is more willing to kick a door in than knock.

    Chapter 43

I felt the humor of this moment was needed to break the tension caused by James's monologue. Oddly enough, the set up came a little too easily for me. Lol

    Chapter 43

Well said. James is that friend who will be honest with you for good or bad.

    Chapter 43

Bryan needed to hear those things much more directly than anyone else was willing or capable of doing.

    Chapter 43

James comes off brash and insensitive at times, but his lack of filter can put him in some very good moments, too.

    Chapter 43

Very well summarized. Absolutely, the ones you pick are often the closest, and I would add most loyal due to the choice itself.
  15. True to his word, Charlie came by the following Saturday just before Calvin's visit. It was clear that Calvin was nervous. Charlie considered cleaning his gun, but decided that might be a bit too much for the judge to accept, since they were certain Calvin's lawyer will file every complaint they could muster. Instead, Charlie sat in silence, occasionally dealing with James, who was in Bryan's room playing video games. Unlike the previous visits, Calvin was a little more communicative with t

    Chapter 25

I'm all good, except the occasional asthma attack. I'm glad you like the story. The next 4 chapters are ready to be published (just finished editing Chapter 46).

Congrats, @chris191070 Murder on the Hudson & The Cat in the Window are in the Top 25 Most Recommended Stories in 2024 So Far (#12 & #13 respectively.)

    Chapter 5

Very true. Keeping the first person narrative and/or character dialogue age appropriate helps more with indirectly describing the characters than just stating what they look like. If a 9-year-old spoke with proper English and no slang, for example, it would be difficult to take the physical description seriously.

Very much so. Steve, however, is a lot taller and muscular. Think comedian Greg Davis in personality (goofy, funny, sweet, etc.) mixed with Stone Cold Steve Austin's build in his prime, except around 7 feet (2.13 meters) tall.

    Chapter 5

This feels like a personal slight against me, Good Sir. 🤣
  23. John Henry

    Chapter 5

Ha ha. lol When I read a story, my brain creates an image of the characters and setting without regard to the physical descriptions provided. It's just how it works for me, so if I saw the images Arch has used for inspiration or created in AI, they wouldn't match what's in my head (or even come close).

    Chapter 5

I like having my own idea of what they look like. In my own stories, I try to keep physical descriptions vague, so my readers can use their own imaginations. Like, I don't see Liam as blonde, but more a light brunette and slightly built, where Mike is slim and almost goth/emo looking.
