    23: Emmett

Next to being inexperienced- we hear about that later on- it's also result of how Finley grew up. Always in the shadow- being the shadow! - of Bomb, being taught by the military to shut down feelings and not express them. And yes, of course, the intensity of normal feelings mixed with the dragon-feelings for the hoard... Emmett is a very joyful, energetic, happy, outgoing, playful etc character. Getting barely any reaction is nothing he's used to. He's like a puppy. First watching the newcomer carefully, but now that he's decided he likes him he excitetly brings out his favorites toys and wants to play^^ I think the unexpected news from his daughter really threw him off. She might be the result from an arranged marriage, but he still loves her and being since years far away from her and his grandchild must be hard. I mean, he was raised to believe in those arranged relationships, that the parents and elders choose best, and he actually got a good deal- he and his wife were at least friends before she died- but he's expiriencing love for the first time and in reference to Emmett he's falling somewhat back into father-mode, though subconciously. "Think about the coven, what will the others say, etc" Good thing I cut the chapter at this point, gives me the chance to clarify some stuff^^

Sequels have the tendency to get announced but never written. So, let's say I ever get to write part II of this, we actually meet Amaya. (And Bomb. For the drama, y'know) Seems like the witches know how to hold a grudge 😅 But you are right of course. I mean, for the coven passed quite some generations and the dragon could even be still alive and actually still hurt from the rejection - if that even is for real what happened.

A man's looks are mostly secondary for me, I'm attracted by charisma. Self-confidence without arrogance, inner strength, composure, intelligence. A breathtaking smile or a beautiful body are more of an accessory. Finley's charisma was definitely attractive; even more so when he relaxed and laughed and his eyes sparkled. You could call him chubby, but I thought his body reflected his inner self in a way. And the softer side of him, his gentlemanly manners, gave the whole matter a different d
  4. Absolutely agree. Would be nice, huh? Though now I do wonder why Claire gets that much hate, I didn't expect that 😅

It will both get better and worse. If that makes sense. I mean, I did say further up Anduin is not destructive, but that goes for now... And from your reaction I take it you will lean back with a grim smile and say "you would deserve even worse" once Anduin's arc is told
  6. Remy is not a snitch. Opposite to Dante, he prefers to keep his mouth shut- the consequences of that we will meet/see later on. Plain and simple: he doesn't. I do confirm Marc is jealous, but for the details of who/what/how you'll have to wait But I do like @Danners theories about Marc a lot. Next to Anduin needing competition for Remy's love, Remy could do with some healthy affection and the gentle reminder that two men can be together outside of forced shows as well.

Absolutely agree, that goes for both of them. I don't know... I'm not sure if Anduin is thinking really this big. "I love you, I protected you, and I expect to be loved back (in a proper way)" --> "proper" of cause going after his definition. Dominant, yes, totally, but it doesn't seem really destructive. That's sadly plain to see. I have to admit, as far as love for antagonists goes, I do love Anduin and [redacted name of Dante's story's antagonist] quite a lot.

Not sure it is that easy. Since Anduin is not stupid, we can agree he understood the concept of having a choice and saying no. In this case it might be that he simply chose the easy path instead of getting a punishment from Claire, who most likely disagrees with said concept. Growing up helpless and powerless and therefore searching for someone/thing he can have power over? Hmm. 🤔 Not a bad thought, but I guess that's a very subconcious thing, then, cause he does love Remy and the little punishments are normally for "rejecting" him or "not showing enough love". You can count on it 👍 Keep that in mind I like this version of Cinderella ❤️
  9. Harlaney House seemed as if it were still in a deep sleep when Remy went down early that morning. He took a quick glance at the party room, which didn't look like anyone had made any effort to clean it up, and then went to the kitchen. He almost expected to find Cain there already, but instead it was Bella standing in front of the fridge, all looking like she was asleep standing up. "Bella?" he asked therefore very quietly, but a fine smile crept onto his lips. She winced and half-turn

As much as I would like to see that, at this point Remy seems far from being able to stand up against his big brother. But something has to happen, I do agree.

"Hey..." Remy sighed and turned around. "There's something called knocking, Anduin. What's up? We meet downstairs in a minute, remember?" Anduin slipped into the room, a strange smile on his face- Remy frowned and lowered the hairbrush. "What?" After last night's rather emotionally laden conversation, they hadn't exchanged many words so far today. "I thought I'd drop off something that might come in handy." He simultaneously pulled something out of the pockets of his dark blu
  12. This is indeed the start of a series, the next part will have Dust as main character and will be about the problem mentioned in the phone call. Though we will see Violet und Upfield again (and others, of course), don't worry
  13. “Are you going to use a more psychological strategy as a defense?” I asked Upfield as I finally, much later, escorted him through the building to the exit. “No,” he replied seriously. “If he doesn't ask for an expert opinion himself, I won't start down that path. In my opinion, people like him don't deserve to be coddled with psychological custody.” I gave him an approving nod; the opinion might seem harsh, but in my line of work you meet enough scum from whom humanity needs to be p

    Chapter 1

Admiral Matthew D. Horner hated meetings. The more so, the more important people attended. On the three large screens in front of him all their faces were visible, most of them in persona together with Emperor Valerian present in one of his meeting rooms, some others- like him- connected via terminals. When Senator Maric took the floor, he folded his hands in front of him on the table and leaned back. "Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know, many of our colonies are still in need of immen
  15. Even far from old Earth it's Valentine's Day. Wanna be my Valentinerian?
  16. ❤️ You could see it as sort of payment. 13 years are a lot of time, especially to form the mind of a young character. In the past, the education contracts were used to create bonds of loyalty between families. Well, we haven't heard Frank's thoughts on the matter so far. Being silent in the kitchen is not a big statement. Seems like Tom's reputation is even darker than I imagined 😅 It definitely will. She can be stubborn, if she wants, and let's face it, she is Carolyn's daughter and there is indeed a nice punishment waiting for Dante. Thank you both! ❤️
  17. Dante gave Henry a tour of the house, just as Mikey had done for him not long ago. As they stood outside Mistress Alice's door, however, Dante paused. In Denser's Port, sons were usually raised in their own families and then, as a finished result, proudly displayed and sold; he had no idea how Mistress Alice had meant it when she asked him to take care of Henry. Henry noticed his hesitation and turned pale again, after a healthy color had just returned to his face. "She doesn't like it
  18. Don't worry, one or the other bomb drops... sooner or later. Promise.
  19. Oh, Frank and Jessy could make a really sharp-tongued pair if they chose to. Search shelter, everyone! Mr. Jealous will have a big time coming, trust me. Apart that: Alice/Matthew would even mean she stayed close after marrying, since the Horners are direct neighbours like the Washingtons. Close for Frank to have his (only) support close- Alice- and close to still see Dante. Next chapter will answer parts of that. Though: a) it was Carolyn who requested him coming to them as education slave. b) Carolyn can't take him cause she has already Mikey as education slave and Britney can't because her personal slave is not of age. Sarah could, but has already to deal with three kids. Leaves Alice. Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe it's just precaution. Nowadays with the GPS-tracking in the collars it's for most slaves impossible to successfully run away. However, there are slaves in certains environments- like this chem park- where they were different collars, cause, for example, the chemical-ladden air would damage the sensitive collar-tech. Carolyn has a good sense of which slave is useful, about his strengths and weaknesses. She might often be an asshole, a strict mother and mistress, unfair even, but she will protect what's hers (we saw that already painfully and will see it again). We will find out
  20. Dante slept really bad, tossed from side to side, and more than once had trouble separating dream fragments from reality. Consequently, it took him a moment to realize that the strange cry was coming from the here and now. Puzzled, he got up and went over to Mistress Alice's room- she herself was sitting up in bed, bedside lamp on- and listened for a moment to the voices in the hallway. "What's wrong?" he asked quietly, and his mistress shrugged. Again, a shout. "Oh..." she made, as if
  21. First thought was "bit early to have a traitor amongst them". But on the other hand would be an interesting start to a series... 🤔 Anyway, you gave me ideas!
  22. We will see more of Nathan Upfield Not necessarily here and now, but we will. Last chapter missing is an epilogue, but since this is supposed to become a series, even contains some sort of prologue for the next story. It will get more personal, that I can promise.
  23. Leaning against the wall in the hallway and clearing my email inbox, I waited. Harry had gone to speak to Brick and I looked up expectantly as footsteps sounded. To my surprise, it was Josy, a coffee mug from the canteen in her hand. “Hey.” she said, sounding almost embarrassed. “Do you need this?” She held the mug out to me and I blinked at her, puzzled. “Need in what sense?” “Well.” She blushed. “I saw Harry and thought that if you're going to stand here alone doing officer w
  24. You're not that far off The piercing as sign of membership in the Brotherhood of the Thorn Rose is optional and only chosen by the truely devoted, cause the brotherhood stands for "no sex before marriage" and of course "sex only with your wife" and the piercing is supposed to make intercourse painful, if not impossible. It's removed by the wife on the wedding day, often in front of the priestress leading the wedding ceremony. This time of the year is basically the only time, Anthony gets somewhat mentioned at all. The rest of the year it is as if he never existed.
  25. Amen to that.
