  1. Yep, I'd guess it's rare in any state to prosecute some who was clearly an intruder in your home. The criminal's family can still go after you in civil court. They'd be hard pressed to find a sympathetic judge or jury. If you kill someone in your home it's rather hard to argue it wasn't in self defense. I'd use a lot more caution if I were considering lethal action against someone on the street. I'd wait until I saw a knife or a gun. By that time though I'd be ready for action. Of course, simply pulling up my shirt to reveal my pistol might be all it takes to get someone to leave me alone. Then again some of these crack and meth crazed idiots we have around here might not realize the implications of seeing a gun flashed at them. On the street it's always a tough call when to use lethal force. There are so many courses on how to use a gun. I wish there were more courses on when to use a gun!
  2. That's a decent amount of time for a mouse. Especially if you use it a lot. That's about what I got out of my previous optical mouse. I got a Kensington trackball this time. Love it!
  3. Thanks. I can't stand G&R or Korn. I'll try sampling the others.
  4. Hey, this thread has been dormant for a while, but I need to bring it back to life. That's because I need some more music recommendations please. Kevin's suggestions in particular were great. Bought all of them. Loved all of them. I'm looking for similar kinds of albums. Dark, brooding. A mixture of rock with maybe a light rap beat to it but not necessarily. Thanks.
  5. In all fairness, that quote was made when DOS 6.x was the reigning OS. There really wasn't much to do with any extra RAM unless you were using really big spreadsheets. But back then 1MB of RAM would have set you back thousands of US dollars so it wasn't really an option for most people or companies.
  6. His most infamous quote was that computers would never need more than 640KB of RAM.
  7. Jerry can't come back now. Pretty soon his photo is going to be posted at every port of entry to the US. Sure he's a master of disguise, but I have a feeling disguises won't be enough. Not for Jerry and not for Dimitri either. Seems to me their plans are seriously messed-up.
  8. I remember back in the early 1980s when the first HD for an Apple II became available. It held a then whopping 5MB and cost US$700! I couldn't imagine filling an entire 5MB. Now I have single files larger than that and 1TB drives cost less than US$200!
  9. I guess there's a first time for everything.
  10. The Kingston 4GB is the one I saw for sale at Amazon for US$17.
  11. Yep. And these days I see 4GB+ drives that are less than US$20!
  12. That would work well too. Those things have gotten so inexpensive since I bought my first one that held 128MB and cost close to US$200.
  13. Bob, his stories are good enough that there are quite a few small publishers who would love to publish his stuff. LTMP would probably make it onto the action/adventure shelves instead of being relegated to the gay section. I work with several published authors so between the two of us I'm sure we could get him a contract to publish LTMP. CJ, you really owe it to yourself to give this a try. I know in my heart that you'd be a success. I'm not saying you'd get rich or anything like that. But your books would absolutely be well received. If you want me to introduce you to Josh Aterovis and see what help he can provide I'd be happy to do that. I know Josh would be equally happy to offer you all sorts of advice.
  14. Man oh man. Talk about sadistic. I didn't think you had it in you Benji. WTG my friend!
  15. If it weren't for sex we wouldn't have any geeks or engineers.
  16. School absolutely should take priority over writing. If it's school that's holding you back from doing more writing then I'll just have to be more patient.
  17. I'm celebrating becoming the permanent beta-reader/editor for one of my favorite authors and part of a team of beta-readers for another favorite author of mine.
  18. CJ, yes, two weeks between chapters is way too long. It's hard enough to go one week between chapters. So what if it means we don't get to see a new story from you immediately. Maybe people will use that time to read some of the other great stories on GA. I mean, take Jack from example. He won't be posting anything new until the winter. When he does start posting it will have been well worth the wait. I know we all want to see non-stop stories from you. But come on, at some point you need to take a break or at least not feel the pressure of having to write something in time for a weekly release. Steve, how about you give Cody a relationship with somebody? I think we've been waiting on a new chapter from you for so long your story can be considered abandoned. I don't intend that to sound mean. Just full of disappointment from a huge fan.
  19. Kevin, most of my tech savvy friends are similarly disposed. We simply get tired of being called on to fix problems that never should happen in the first place if safe computing practices are used. MikeL, it must be the geek in me but sex is way more complicated than computers. Do you all really mean a flash drive? Those are still horribly expensive. I'm guessing you mean something like an SD-RAM card. That makes a lot of sense. Especially in CJ's case cause he'd be able to sit outdoors on one of his cliffs and write stories using his laptop.
  20. No need to worry about ticking off this police detective unless you plan to break into his home. In reality I would empty my pistol into the intruder's chest. Gotta be sure he's really dead 'ya know. By the time I was done I doubt anyone would be able to tell which shot came first. I pray I never find myself in this situation. I don't want to take anyone's life. I'm just saying if I had to do it I know I could and would do it in such a way that I would be totally in the clear legally. I can't recall anyone ever being prosecuted in Florida for killing a home intruder except in cases where the home was booby-trapped to kill indiscriminately.
  21. Why not? Whatever works y'all.
  22. Don't worry Steve. The supplies are close at hand. If The Goat misbehaves I can have the flames going within the hour.
  23. I hope everyone appreciates the effort you went through to get this card delivered during a holiday weekend and installed in enough time to post 41 on-time. WTG Goat! I guess we'll put the BBQ supplies away for now.
  24. Hey CJ. With all you had to go through to get this chapter posted on-time the first thing I want to do is thank you for your devotion to your fans. As others have said it's nice to see something positive happening at last. I loved how the General came in and took charge. The "local barney" was an absolute joke. Good call on that one Mike. So, this week's cliffhanger is that Dimitri is still out there somewhere and nobody bothered to mention him. I wonder what's gonna come of that?
  25. My advice is to work on FTL until it's complete. Then you can begin releasing chapters on a regular basis without worrying about having too much going on at once. Also, I'd do the same thing with this other story you're working on. I personally don't want to have two concurrent stories and have to wait two weeks for an update on each one. Work on one and release chapters weekly. Work on the other one until it's complete and then start releasing chapters. Finally, the last thing I think any of us wants is for you to get burned-out by trying to do too much all at once.
