Thanks so much for your kind words!
I don't think that with Alex it's so much about having a mistress and a wife, I think it's about the psychological aspect of that. It seems that he needs two people to satisfy his otherwise incompatible sexual desires.
I think most Americans are charmed by British accents and classy people, so you throw in an aristocrat like Alex, and he's going to be pretty irresistible. IMHO.
I think Wade is starting to realize just how deep that bond really is.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the story! Thanks!
We'll have to see how Will and Zach work this out. Will's tolerance levels are probably set to 'high', and that's a good thing.
I think you're right that Alex truly cares about Wade, and I also think you make a good observation about JJ. I think he will probably find Alex to be charming company in Boston.
Gary,
You raise a good point when you question whether Matt is with Alex just to keep Wade and him apart...but I think that's probably not his motive. Matt seems to me, in this chapter, to be trying to find his way in this relationship that just got a whole lot more complicated.
I had actually intended Matt's comment "Stay here with me and I'll put you on that pedestal" to be a reaffirming moment for them. I visualized Matt uttering that playfully to Wade, and I saw Wade's denial as a sign of his frustration with non-satisfying sex with Alex.
This is most definitely a cliffhanger, in the most melodramatic sense of the word. I'm glad you laughed at the first part of the story. It makes sense that Alex would be able to charm people, especially Americans.
I hope this chapter didn't stir negative emotions for you. That's tough, to be diagnosed with HIV at only 19, but the fact that you're in great shape today is one of the reasons I wrote this storyline.

Escorial
Matt
Since we were welcoming Alex to Escorial, and while he was here, we’d been informed that the dress code for dinner was ramped up, and so that’s how I found myself sitting on the bed next to Wade wearing a suit, while he lay in bed, looking like shit. “Do you want me to bring you something back?”
He gave me a dubious look. “No, if I want something, I’ll call and have someone bring it to me. I may try some toast later o
That's pretty funny! It's really hard to piece together the persona of a historical figure, but there were some tidbits for her. As I said before, she seemed to actually be more of a whiney, frail thing. That may be more annoying than the character I built for her.
Thank you so much Ricky! I'm glad I can transport you to a different time and place; that's really flattering.
I think that Lord Elgin will make sure she is as safe as possible, because even if he doesn't care for her (and we haven't seen any signs that this is the case) she is carrying his child, the heir to his earldoms.
Thank you!
I think Granger just wants to do his duty as honorably as possible, and to get that horrible woman to Constantinople as fast as he reasonably can.
I think Granger is frustrated with Valiant's speed, but he also has to know that ultimately he'll find her biggest advantage (her ability to make good progress during rough seas) will be just as useful, if not moreso.
Thanks for the review!
Well, I've already taken some liberties with Lady Elgin's persona (OK, a lot of them). In actuality, she was reputed to be more of a whiney, sickly thing.
I'm not sure if Caroline will be all that happy with a letter that is so terse it is almost a slap in the face.
Thanks for the review! One of George's best traits is his ability to move from the battlefield to gentleman...or maybe he never stopped being a gentleman, even when he was in battle. :-)
I loved your observation about how Granger reacts naturally. I could see him modeling himself after Nelson in that battle, in that he had confidence in his fellow captains and largely let them conduct the battle as they best saw fit.

HMS Valiant
Near Cape Finisterre
Alcmene and Triton were piling on sail, surging ahead to cut the Santa Brigada off from Vigo, while Valiant plodded along, as if she was the beater chasing the Spaniard into the clutches of the hunters.
He turned his attention to Ethalion, and watched as she engaged Thetis. “My lord, it looks like the Don is going to rake Ethalion,” Meurice said with concern. Granger watched as the Don tried to cross Ethalion
