    Chapter 40

Well, funerals/memorials are usually good for tears or fighting, so I'll try to balance that out. :-)

    Chapter 40

Thanks for the nice review! I guess they could have sent someone to talk to Wade personally, but that would have taken time, and like you said, they would have been busy. There is a really deep bond between these three brothers who don't always understand each other that well, but seem to know what they need.

    Chapter 40

Well, I think some good will come, but there are no miracle survivors
  4. So I got more than 10,000 reputation points (THANKS!) and my message changed to: 10096 I'm Definitely Not Kitty I saw that and laughed pretty hard. Those of you who have been around for a while will remember her, and what a shrew she was. Myr's become a much better judge of character over the years.

    Chapter 40

September 11, 2001 11:45am: Goodwell, VA “How can you be sure if you didn’t find the body?” I demanded. “We can’t,” Officer Grivens said. “But we track people, especially visiting Senators, pretty carefully when they’re here, so we know where he was. And where he was is now smoking rubble.” That made sense, that they’d keep tabs on visiting dignitaries. “Will you please let me know if there is additional news?” I asked, probably sounding fros

    Chapter 39

Another great review Kody. Actually, you are just as connected to 9-11 as the rest of us, for the reasons that you mentioned. It really did change our lives forever. That drone outside your window, watching you masturbate: thank 9-11. :-) I can see why the firefighters would inspire such a reaction in Will. They did what Robbie did, and what he and Darius couldn't do: they went back to try and save the others. He'll see in them the courage and bravery he wasn't able to show (and thus may question, if he lets this fuck him up really bad).

    Chapter 39

Well, Claire and Frank will be informed as soon as I post chapter 40. And I think you're wise to worry about Mrs. Danfield.

    Chapter 39

Yes, they'll be grounded for a bit. If only they were Saudi princes, they'd be home already. :-)

    Chapter 39

Thanks for the nice review, Sam. You're right about Darius. He guards his privacy with the same vehemence that Will guards his independence. This isn't an easy time of the year...you're right. But then again, most of these chapters have been in the works (editing, re-editing, etc) for a while. It's kind of like priming the pump to get new ones written, which is why we end up with dry spells around mid-semester.

    Chapter 39

OK, insomnia was not one of my goals. :-( Hope you're doing better. Senator Danfield really wasn't doing anything wrong, IMHO. He's a divorced man (so he's single) and he saw a hot chick and had sex with her. In the Pentagon. I'd have high-fived him, except he's dead.

    Chapter 39

Being stuck in one place is probably good for them at this point.
  12. I considered a lot of options with the Senator's demise, and one of them was having Elizabeth step in and finish his time in the Senate until a new person could be elected. That's not an unfamiliar occurrence to this resident of Missouri, as we had that happen when Mel Carnahan died. The problem is that the storyline in Paternity makes that almost an impossibility. It would be tough for any governor to appoint a woman who was involved in a campaign finance scandal AND who had locked her mother up in a nursing home for several years just to control her money. This is actually a huge challenge for Wade. Like a true aristocrat, he has strong ties to the land, and Goodwell means more to him than it does to his siblings. Or his mother. He almost had it securely in his hands. Now it remains to be seen how things will be divided up.
  13. I actually thought this was a little too slow for JP's mood at the time, but I liked it anyway. This one, on the other hand, was spot-on. - The playfulness of this song worked so very well! I could clearly visualize Matt looking out at the paddock in sad introspection when I heard this playing.
  14. I thought I'd take a moment here in this forum to thank all of you who posted reviews. The last four chapters generated over 80 reviews for the story, and propelled 9.11 to the third most reviewed story on GA (from 8th). Thanks! Your sharing and feedback is what makes this fun.
  15. I think you two make some really good points about Cody. He really has been a good friend to the family, and he steps up to help out friends who are in trouble. He has an intuitive knack to figuring people out, which helps him not only in his personal life, but with his career as well. It's reasonable to assume that the circuit boy may still pretend to be in that mode, when he really isn't. As Tim noted, sometimes you think you aren't ready for something, but when it's thrust upon you, you manage. I see Cody as a guy who's not into babies, but as Maddy gets older, I can see him finding her more interesting. And I can see him taking a lot more interest in her. That could set up an interesting tug of war between Cody and Will, over how Maddy is raised (and where' she's raised).

    Chapter 39

Thanks for that review, and for sharing your experience. I feel much the same way that you do regarding the end result of the attacks. I've gotten some bitchiness about the plot line, but I expected that, and it was only a few isolated cases. Sometimes it's hard to resist telling a whiner that if they don't like the way I tell the story, they can write their own fucking story, but I try to be nice these days. In any event, the die is cast, so until we get to some new world tragedy, those that survived are probably safe. They're definitely safe for the rest of this story. So things should be OK.

    Chapter 39

Thanks! I think that JP shows Brad the way, and we saw it clearly here. JP subtly reminds Brad about his responsibilities, and gives him the nudge to kick the denial in long enough to do what he has to do.

    Chapter 39

I haven't written the funerals/memorials yet. I'm in denial, and it is just a lot to deal with. With schedules, etc., these things will be dragging on into October. Ugh.
  19. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

What's neat about Matt and Wade is that they communicate so effectively, and I think that bodes well for them. You could hopefully see it in this chapter, where they were sensitive to even gestures and body language. Not petty at all about the divorce, but it probably would have been better if Wade had been able to actually buy Goodwell before the Senator died.

    Chapter 39

That's how I want to go. See, I delivered a happy ending. Their lives ended, and they were happy. What's left to bitch about? :-)
  21. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

Thank you so much, Kitt! That's why I labored over how this would turn out, since I realize that you all are attached to these people just as I am.
  22. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

It will be interesting to see how this impacts Matt's relationship with the Carrswolds.
  23. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

Thanks MM! There may actually be some issues with that, with life-changing inheritances. We don't know if Robbie left cash behind for Wally and Clara's brood, and we don't know what impact this will have on Hank's more blue-collar family, although they'll probably spend their time arguing over who gets the Ram truck.
  24. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

Thank you very much! It dawned on me that there was some unfinished business with Ella, and since she was in New York, it was cool to draw her into the story.
  25. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 39

I remember that as well. The initial shock and horror giving way to...weirdness. Well, Jeremy is all ready for me to finish up by September 29 because he thinks I've covered all there is to cover. He's wrong, and I'm not doing that. We'll make it to Thanksgiving, at least.
