    Chapter 63

Well, it's highly likely that Winkler/Jacobs will make it back first. We'll have to see about the others.
  2. Happy Birthday! You are appreciated!
  3. Matt, Nana, Wade, and Tiffany are all supposed to come up for the ceremony. It takes more than one chapter to get through 9-11, and they won't all be posted on 9-11.
  4. It's funny you mention that, because I see Granger doing just that when he gets to Paris.

    Chapter 35

I don't think anyone asks questions about Will's age because he looks old enough to be one of them. If you went to a party and there was a handsome young guy there who looked like he was 18, would you make an issue out of it? I think that Stef throws out those lines primarily because it makes him feel young and attractive to still be a sexual being, and because it tends to lighten the moods.

    Chapter 35

That's the deal: it was such a horrific event, it's bound to be unpleasant, even for us.

    Chapter 63

Unless some ill-event hits Winkler and Jacobs, you're right, they'll be back first.

    Chapter 63

I think handing the pouch to Thompson was the chivalrous thing to do, and that would have been on Granger's mind.
  9. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 35

Well, you can vote, but the chapters are written, and the die is cast.

    Chapter 63

Granger is a class act. I'm not sure of Winkler's exact status, but I doubt anyone would mess with him. St. Vincent certainly could have, but he has more important things to worry about.
  11. I heard about that as well, but I'm assuming that event planners would have some leeway in this regard. In any event, they do in this story.

    Chapter 35

The strained atmosphere is significant. I haven't decided whether I'll post a chapter before 9-11 or not. I'm still mulling it over.

    Chapter 35

I think that's the first video review I've ever gotten. She's right.

    Chapter 63

August 22, 1798 Aboard Généreux Granger lay in his cabin wearing trousers and a shirt, pretending to be asleep. It had been four days since the battle and they had made but slow progress toward Corfu. Granger had spent much of his time looking after the British prisoners aboard Généreux. As he was the only British officer aboard, he felt it was his obligation to act as their guardian, as it were. He had done what he could to make their lives tolerable, but it was difficult
  15. Thanks for your post. You gave me an entirely different way to look at military staffing, something I'd never really considered before. I guess I had that WWI/II mentality too. Now it's debunked. In a similar vein, while I agree with you about idiots in academia, I think your read of the purpose of college is off. Some people have this idea that a four year degree is some sort of advanced vocational training. In my world (the Business School), that is probably more accurate than in others, but the real purpose is to help an individual round out their knowledge, and to teach them vital skills like critical thinking. I left JP alone for half an hour. Doesn't that count?
  16. Well, I don't feel too bad about that since I'm posting a chapter every four days or so. But when it comes to sadism, CJ is my mentor.

    Chapter 35

I think that Will and Darius are pretty close, inasmuch as someone can be close to Darius. Darius keeps his personal life under wraps, and is probably looking at Will's more open approach and applauding that decision. He's also probably trying to figure out just how mature his brothers are. I suspect that his partying with Will is his way of assessing whether he can actually let Will into his brain a little more.

    Chapter 35

Thank you so much. Hopefully I won't disappoint you when we get to the actual event. I really did try to set this up carefully to make sure I didn't make it look contrived, but I don't always succeed. You're very perceptive. We have limited points of view here, so it's quite possible there are things going on behind the scenes we don't see.

    Chapter 35

Dude, you're not going to be able to relax for a while. Do a JP, go out to the patio, and relax. ;-)

    Chapter 35

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I actually feel the same way that you do. America can be a little bit like Ace. We really do have (in general) good intentions, but sometimes we get all emotional and freak out.

    Chapter 35

I'll bet JP is pretty lithe and agile. And he's loosened up after that morning encounter.

    Chapter 35

I think it's fun to watch the dynamics between the brothers gel as they get older. Darius, a cool but private guy; Will, playful, intense, and hyper-motivated; and JJ, the bitchy diva who actually does have sophisticated feelings beneath the veneer.

    Chapter 35

You're already crazy. :-) I think that JP and Stef are OK. I think it's one of those things where they've been partners for a long time, they know that's not changing, and they're just having a spat. JP is being a little more rigid than he otherwise would have because he wants to drive home his points to Stef.
  24. Really great choices! I'm usually in for a Linkin Park song, but pulling out Barry McGuire's song was just masterful.
