    Chapter 42

I think that it's not the grandparents that have a problem with the kids, but the kids who have a problem with the grandparents. Intriguing that you are OK with Will having sex, but you don't think Brad would/should/might have. I do understand your point about Brad not being interested, but he's all over the place right now, so there are probably times when he isn't, and times when he is.

    Chapter 42

I'm so glad I could make your Sunday a little better. Darius seems to thrive on responsibility. Will really does seem to take his vows seriously, which will probably be a good thing for a guy who dates him; unless that guy screws him over.

    Chapter 42

Thanks for the really nice review! It's funny how it can be irritating to see someone do something that we may have done ourselves. I think it's inevitable that the environment at Escorial and Malibu change.

    Chapter 42

Thanks for the review, and for sharing how it impacted you. I'm not trying to make us all miserable for an extended period of time, but this is kind of how it goes when something like that happens.

    Chapter 42

You know, I never really liked that song, even though I totally got into the concept. :-)
  6. A week early is plausible. More isn't.

    Chapter 42

Sorry about the roller coaster ride. It's part of the whole 9-11 thing, unfortunately. Darius is blooming into an interesting guy. It seems that if he's given responsibility, he thrives on it.

    Chapter 42

Thanks for the review, and glad you liked it. I think Jeff returning to be there for Will, and for his birthday, was a really nice thing to do. Notice how Tony showed up. :-(

    Chapter 65

I'm glad you mentioned this, but I'm going to call you on perhaps exaggerating, since we just finished up the Battle of the Nile. Since India, Granger has slept with Perkins and Jardines (men he's already been with) and with the Egyptian guy, and now Beauvilliers. I think it's possible to chide him for the last two, but it also perhaps undermines the stress that Granger is feeling but not showing. He is trying to survive in a captive environment, and while I don't think he's whoring himself out, he is probably looking to firm up his situation a bit. Perhaps it's his political instincts that makes him look for liaisons. I'm not willing to write him off as being ignoble for boning one hot Frenchman when he's a prisoner though.

Thanks for review, and for saying that!

    Chapter 65

Thanks Ricky. I don't think there's any risk of Granger running into Gatling at Brentwood. I doubt that Gatling's parents are very wealthy, and probably wouldn't have much of a place to put them up, in any event. But it's highly likely they'll run into each in London.
  12. You've done really well with music recs, but I don't think you've ever done this good. Wow. The song by the Smiths was inspired, but the song by Bread was absolutely fantastic. Especially when you think about why that song was written (about a son mourning the loss of his father). Great job! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

    Chapter 42

September 14, 2001 9:00am: Charlottesville, VA “Thank you again for your hospitality, and for your support,” Grand said to Wade formally. He said this as we stood on the ramp at the airport, waiting to board Stef’s plane. “I will be at Escorial in a little more than a week, and you can return the favor,” Wade said. “We’ll see you in New Jersey on the 19th.” Wade stood by the stairs and gave us man hugs as we prepared to climb them. When he got to me, he was mo

    Chapter 41

I think this presents enormous challenges for Wade. If you think about it, Wade has allied himself with his father against his mother, who while partially neutered, is still a formidable foe. Now he's lost his key ally, and within his own family, he faces his sister, who is likely to pursue her own interests with little regard for consequences, and his younger brother, who is probably going to have considerable conflicts of loyalty.

    Chapter 41

A spider is a good comparison to Elizabeth, and I think Wade has mentioned that before. Her tendency to spread wide webs, where a quiver on one part may be linked to a quiver in another part, is really masterful when things work. When they don't, it tends to be a massive meltdown.

    Chapter 41

I think you're absolutely right (and so was Nana) about jumping right in with some counseling, especially when it comes to this group. I think it really shows the respect that JP and Nana command that the others fell in line so easily. Even JJ. :-)

    Chapter 41

Thanks for the review. I'm glad the chapter resonated so well with you, although I'm hoping it didn't stir up too many negative feelings.
  18. Well, Hornblower was fiction too. There are a couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Hornblower was captured approximately 10 years after Granger. Things were considerably different for prisoners in the latter part of the Napoleonic Wars. Parole was not granted as easily, and prisoners were often confined to parole towns. In France, this usually meant Verdun. 2. Hornblower was a commoner, whose father was a minister. There would have been less outrage over his mistreatment than Granger, but I suspect there would still have been considerable outrage. 3. Hornblower was captured when there was one capricious autocrat in charge of France (Napoleon), while Granger arrives in Paris to face the Directory, a polyglot of bizarre men.

    Chapter 65

Homecoming...that is still a ways off. I haven't decided if it will be better or not. It will definitely be different. Regardless, I am sure George (and all of them) are very anxious to get back to England.

    Chapter 65

First, thank you for all the reviews! That's awesome. I agree with you about Calvert. He's growing up, and maturing, and it shows in how he acts around his subordinates. I think that the Abbey would be an option for the sailors, if they can get there without meeting a press gang.

    Chapter 65

Thanks for the review. You're hoping that Calvert and Gatling live happily ever after, but somewhere like Amboyna, where I don't write about them all that much. ;-) It's possible they'll meet in Paris. Or maybe that's too obvious.
  22. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 65

I think that George will find Paris interesting, but I doubt he'll enjoy it. He's been away from home too long to relax in the enemy capital.

Thanks for the review! Granger returns next chapter. Hang in there.
