June 3, 2005 Hanscom Field Bedford, MA Will “You owe me twenty bucks,” I said to Marie as we relaxed into the cushy seats of Dad’s G-V. “You got to suck Sky’s dick?” she asked. “I even got him to fuck me, and that boy was a lot of fun,” I said. “He obviously had no experience with men, but he must have banged some chicks.” “Why do you say that?” she asked. “Because the way he moved his body, in sinuous

A Crisis of Confidence
Mark Arbour commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in A Crisis of Confidence
That's a really interesting topic, the concept of being 'outed' in Granger's era, so I'll share my thoughts with you. There are a couple of reasons why that's unlikely: 1. As you noted, most of the people Granger has had sex with are just as vulnerable as he is (like Cavendish, Calvert, etc.) and are very unlikely to say anything because they cannot afford to be implicated either. Those who aren't as vulnerable (like Holmquist or other sailors) would not be believed. 2. At sea, to legally prove sodomy proof of emission was required or they'd have to be caught in the act. This was usually used when men were caught fucking ship's boys, who then complained and were then examined by the ship's surgeon. It's incomprehensible that a young Cavendish or Lennox would have done that, and the ship's doctor (Jackson) would hardly be willing to cause Granger problems. 3. Granger has a wife and children (and a mistress). This is a huge shield for him. 4. His status in society. Actual proof that he had sex with men would thus be almost impossible to compile. What could happen are scurrilous rumors could circulate about him (as has happened with Calvert) but in that situation, number 3 (above) largely dissipates that. Lord Byron is an intriguing example. "Mad, bad, and dangerous to know", who despite his bisexuality and attraction to adolescents was unscathed by those rumors because he was such a rake.- 36 comments

March 3, 1802 HMS Belvidera The Thames, London “Weigh anchor,” Weston ordered. He appeared to be quite tense, almost afraid. That concerned Granger, because if Weston didn’t have confidence, or at least show it, he would lose the respect of his men. He shot a few sideways glances at Granger, and then Granger understood the problem. Weston was nervous at conducting Belvidera in front of Granger, his mentor and his idol. “I will be below,” Mr. Weston,” Granger

June 3, 2005 Harvard University Cambridge, MA Will “We got so lucky,” I said to Marie as we walked toward Dunster. There was a big party there and Sky was going. That was a big enough incentive to drag me out even though I needed to study. “We got rooms in Adams.” I was so stoked that Fab, Niko, and Sarah were going to be there too. Scotty had to go off and room with the hockey boys, only he’d gotten quadded, so we gave him

I know, right? Maybe we weren't invited.

My mindset here was not to objectify anyone, but to merely indicate that Will was interested in him and planning to focus on him. Much as Gary said, it's like going to a bar, seeing someone, and deciding that's the person you want to meet/fuck/whatever. It's not exploitive, and there was no malice in that statement.

May 23, 2005 Bright Star Studios Manhattan Beach, CA Travis We weren’t filming for another half an hour, so I lay on the bed in my trailer and talked to Will. He’d told me all about Carlo and how that panned out, about his trip to New York where he’d fucked a couple of dudes, and all the drama from the GLBT club and Finn. I wasn’t jealous of him sleeping with those guys; I was jealous because I wasn’t sleeping with anyone. I

May 15, 2005 Harvard University Cambridge, MA Will “I’m glad you changed your mind and decided to go with me,” I said to Carlo as he got into the limo, although that was a lie. He’d called me later in the night after our dinner and apologized profusely for being so rude. He was so sincere that I’d felt I had to re-invite him to join me on the date I’d planned for Finn, and he’d accepted. I had actually kind of been looking forward to going alone, thoughts of hooking up

February 15, 1802 Portland Place London “My lord, Lord Frederick Cavendish has asked to see you as soon as possible,” Cheevers said as soon as Granger walked through the door of his house. “He says it is most urgent.” Granger forced himself not to sigh. He’d spent the morning with Daventry and Hawkesbury, discussing the peace talks at Amiens as well as their upcoming mission to Spain. They had set a departure date for March 3. “I’ll await him i

May 11, 2005 Harvard University Cambridge, MA Will “You seem more uptight than normal,” Sarah said as we walked to the GLBT meeting. “Did your Italian boyfriend dump you?” “First of all, he’s not my boyfriend,” I said. Carlo and I hooked up about every other day, and he was a lot more fun than he had been, but still wasn’t quite as exciting as I’d hoped he’d be. “Second, we’re still friends and fuck buddies.” “The

In St. Louis it is still like that, and it’s the most likely question you’ll get asked when meeting new people. I tell them the name of my CA high school and their eyes roll back in their heads like a computer imploding.

May 7, 2005 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will Since Carlo and I had to leave relatively early tomorrow, the big weekend dinner at Escorial was moved from Sunday to Saturday. The normal players here (Grand, Stef, Dad, Jake, Jessica and Claire) joined by Travis and me as well as Carlo and Paolo. And because this was our ‘Sunday dinner’ we were all dressed nicely. “Thank you all for joining us,” Grand said. “We are glad to be here,” I said, since it seemed like someone

February 9, 1802 Portland Place London “My lord, a Lieutenant Weston has come to see you,” Cheevers said formally. He’d been a bit nervous about interrupting his master over such a junior naval officer, but the smile on Granger’s face relaxed him. “Then I must go and greet him,” Granger said. He went into the front entry and found Weston there, looking incredibly nervous. His dunnage was off to the side, so clearly he’d come straight here from P

May 6, 2005 Bright Star Studio Manhattan Beach, CA Travis “Cut!” the director said. “That’s a wrap. You have the weekend off while editing looks at what we shot. If we’re good we start on Episode 2 on Monday; if we aren’t, we reshoot what we need to reshoot.” We all kind of mumbled our agreement and wandered off the studio to our respective trailers. “Hey,” Kendo said, catching up to me. “S’up?” I asked. “You got plans this weekend?” he asked hope

If you don't like Will now, you'll probably hate him by the end of this story. 😀 I do think that the deal with staking out Fab was more playful than maybe it came across. More of a gossipy kind of thing, not real judgment. I can see where you'd make the Robbie:Carson analogy, but I think this is different, if for no other reason that the power imbalance isn't there. Carson worked for Robbie, Kendo and Travis are co-stars.

April 29, 2005 Harvard University Cambridge, MA Will Fab had managed to avoid me yesterday but he had to come home eventually. I was usually in the library at this time of day, but I changed things up so I was camped out in our room doing homework. I heard the door open and saw Fab come in, his eyes wide in surprise at seeing me. “Busted,” I said. “You can’t avoid me forever.” “I was not avoiding you,” he lied. I stared at him and raised my eyebrow like I was

Some readers feel like they're entitled to bitch about a story like they can demand a refund. That's a nice way of saying they're assholes. 😀

TRAVISTY April 27, 2005 Harvard University Cambridge, MA Will Sarah and I walked to the GLBT meeting, enjoying the warm weather and the lack of rain. “Nice evening,” I said. “We’ll see if that’s true,” she said in her cynical way. “Is your boyfriend going to be there tonight?” She was referring to Preston. “He will be there. He’s not my boyfriend, and I’m not even sure I want to be friends with him,” I said. “You guys were almost inseparable

I never saw this look on campus. -
I think the things that makes the distance a problem are time zones (3) and the trip duration. They’re fine if it’s three days, but that’s a lot for a weekend
