  1. Yeah, very few people write about China as a diverse and multifaceted place. It's too often viewed monolithically by people.I haven't read about many gay Chinese writers either, except those who write historical fiction rather than modern romance. Glad to hear that my story is interesting.
  2. Life is weird and sometimes you don't expect things to happen in a chain. Dating is complicated, you don't even need to read my entire story to get that part. Language of Love is different and strange for me, it's a writing that has no ending and the love is in flux with my life. The chances are pretty high that this might end in disappointment for me and my readers, but everyone is hoping and crossing their fingers for Happily Ever After. Writing about your own life, it's weird, but it feels so much more natural than writing speculative fiction or other stuff. It's like writing about a good friend that you know and understand completely. The characters are easy to create, the background simple, and the dialogue more direct. Is life Art? or Is art Life? I don't know, sometimes I feel like my life is a weird Warhol Painting, you know the ones that he made on Acid. Other times, I feel like I am part of a Da Vinci drawing, intricate and woven together in perfect harmony with nature. Who knows, maybe writing based on my life is a good way to write for me and channel my creativity.

Since half of my family were in Hong Kong and half mainland, I am less culture shocked. I speak the HK tongue pretty well with the broken Canto-English slangs Mandarin and Northern Chinese guys are a lot different than us. It's Chinese, but another variation.

  5. Thanks, Chapter 2 is now up, slightly slower, but it is building to our date
  6. Wow, I should have turned this into a satire, not semi-fiction Chapter 2 is done, but I warn you its slower than the 1st.
  7. Thanks for the encouragement
  8. Tell me about it, but I was an OTH boy more than an OC boy Peyton and Lucas were a better couple than Ryan and Melissa (Runs from the angry old men with torches)
  9. Chapter 2: “I don’t think we’re right for each….” I woke up on Saturday morning and ran through my normal routine. I took a shower, brushed my teeth, made a bowl of cereal, and turned on some Saturday morning cartoons. Sure, I’m 26, but it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a cartoon or two. While I can laugh at the stupid antics of cartoon characters, serious Anime will always be my passion and I know it will probably last into my old age. There is an artistic flare to an anime and cart
  10. Chapter 1: Looking for someone normal Okay, I admit it; my life is boring and depressing. I am not suicidal or a drama queen filled with issues like "my parents throwing me out due to being gay". No, if it was that stuff, I would be interesting and probably end up on Youtube with my own channel and a million likes. Nope, I am boring and quite uninteresting. I work a 9-5 job as an accountant for a hospital. I live with my parents, who are apathetic about my sexuality. I don’t act

Language of Love By W.L (Dedicated to a boy I recently met, not sure what will happen with us) Introduction: I know, I write sci-fi and technical fiction. I don’t usually write in this gritty style or romance, but after my dog’s passing and my recent encounter with a guy, I thought I would draw on my real life experiences and use my real voice in storytelling. You might have seen part of my real voice with the story “In the Cold”, in an old anthology, but it was much more poli

    Language of Love

Two Chinese guys from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives meet. One is a 26 years old Southern Chinese born accountant from Cantonese based culture. The other is a 25 years old Northern Chinese born graduate student from a Mandarin culture. There's politics, social differences, culture clashes, and even a hint of love.
  13. Happy Birthday you old toad
  14. My mourning is over for lucky, I still miss him, but I feel like I can finally return to writing again. Some interesting things have happened to me during this time and it is impacting my writing. I will go into more depth with an example of a possible new story later this week. Anyway, here's a picture of Lucky, so you guys know how he looked in life.
  15. He was my best friend for 12 years. I didn't deserve his loyalty or his love, he just gave it without a reason. I don't know what to say, my dog is gone and I do not know what to say. I will dedicate a poem to him: I Was Lucky To Have You You were always in my heart Greater than any lover Greater than any partner For with you I knew I had a friend I remember our first meeting You were small You were light I feared I might accidentally harm you Yet, you curled you body next to mine And loved me I remember the last time You were frail You were weak You could barely move All you wanted was sleep I cried in my heart Yet, I could not show My heart had to be cold I had to do something final You're gone now I don't know what to say I loved you more than anyone I have before Why must you be so loyal to me? Why must you be so understanding? Even in death To my dog Lucky, I hope doggy heaven is kind and warm.
  16. I was watching a re-run of American Greed, a TV show about real life frauds and pyramid schemes. As I watched the episode, I was reminded of something I came upon during my research for my novel, the Big Squeeze. Most of the senior executives of Mortgage, financial, and legal system were never indicted or sentenced to jail time, except one very interesting exception, Lee Farkas of TB&W. Lee Farkas was one of the richest openly gay CEO's, if not the richest gay executive, in the 2000's. His wealth was based on fraud. Now before anyone jumps on me for asking the obvious question in my subject line, let me start off with my personal take on the guy, I think he's scum and an arrogant asshole, who manipulated other people's money, lives, and everything else to his advantage. He deserves his prison sentence if not more. With that understood, why didn't other executives like Angelo Mozillo of Countrywide see jail time for reckless oversight and fraudulent actions performed by their company and themselves? (Heck the guy sold large amounts his shares in Countrywide as the market began tanking, Martha Stewart went to jail for less) Angelo Mozillo also had "friends" in Washington, but not all the mortgage power brokers had that. New Century Financial as another example, executive like Brad Morrice were not held accountable for more than a light fine from the SEC and 5 years off the job in any major corporation (Sec prohibition term ends this year by the way). Just a thought
  17. Here's my musings on the 33 strategies and 33rd strategy specifically: Robert Greene has been heralded as a "modern version of Machiavelli", since his books exalts the amorality and ruthlessness that exists in human behavior and strategic thinking. I am no apologist for the man, but upon reading the 33 Strategies of War, I can see where is he getting part of inspiration. It is not Machiavellian concepts of amorality like the Prince, but the Chinese 36 Strategems and Art of War. Upon further inspection of the man, I looked up his faith and realized he is an adherent of Zen Buddhism, basically a fusion of Buddhist concepts and Taoist observations. In that perspective, it may seem amoral to Judeo-Christian observers, but it is merely a facet of human behavior that leads to continual suffering. A funny habit of mine is to read the last chapter of a book first before reading the beginning (I know weird way of reading). I looked up his 33rd strategy about the use of panic and terror, very interesting and ominous strategy for countering modern terrorism. I agree with his analysis in this area, including the strengths in decentralized forces, instability in the victims environment/social dynamic, and the power of asymmetrical warfare. To counter terrorism, he borrowed a few lines from the 36 strategms of China, an interesting idea: 借屍還魂- Jiè shī huán hún/Borrow a Corpse to Resurrect the Soul Basically, borrow older ideals and concepts to defeat a foe that seeks to undermine your morale. Of course he did not say it like that, but the underlying strategem is the same. To defeat asymmetric tactics with random acts and terror, the counter is older symmetric tactics with straightforward acts and honest evaluations. The US' own current strategy in dealing with morale effects is not the most suitable, a disproportionate action to counter the strategy of panic and terror would only elevate the power of the attackers rather than diminish it. Police and military powers that disrupt the lives of average citizens only elevate the influence of the panic and terror from the random acts. I thought of something that can be done in this regards to help counter the morale attacks without using excessive force from pondering this strategy: Re-instituting the Civic requirement across the US: Civic courses and concepts no matter how remedial and slow are a necessary. It also formed the core of US national thought. While we may all represent individual cultures, creeds, and identities, the Citizens of the United States remain part of "One Nation". In essence, I want to bring back an old institution of Civics and an old ideology, Nationalism, in order to counter terrorism. In strengthening the old institution, I reduce the possibility of internal sympathizers and potential accomplices, maybe even turning them into key assets in countering future acts. By strengthening the will of the people, you will not see disruption or panic as intended by these acts of terror. For a successful case, look no further than Israel, a nation bogged down by constant threat of terror, but it maintains its society without disruption. With the full support of the people, the use of terrorist attacks would be futile, even if 1 person may kill 30, there are 300 million more people willing to live their life without fear and with a strong determination in their shared national ideals. What the US lacks currently and why we are fracturing politically is based on lack of shared national identity, which prior generations have had. Just my musings of course, I am no prophet of things to come, nor a politician.

    Good Bye Exodus

Ding Dong, it's dead! Hmm...I guess I can reveal the in-joke now for my unfinished Sci-fi epic and its corresponding universe that is half formed in my mind. I chose the story name "Exodus" originally based on several things including this group. I made references to conversion therapy, both positive reinforcement and its negative attributes, along with including the most extreme issues of brainwashing.
  24. I've just noticed something weird, the semes (or roughly equivalent to Tops) in gay manga/anime seem to smoke and drink an extraordinary large amount. The Uke (or Bottom) doesn't smoke at all and also seems to be a lightweight, when it comes to alcohol. Is that supposed to be reflections or sexual references between smoking/drinking and sexual positions? Freudian slips? Product placement by evil Japanese Tobacco and liquor companies on impressionable gay boys and straight girls ? Anyone know why these characteristics seem to be prevalent in modern gay manga/anime? Just curious.....
  25. Depends, I prefer dogs over cats, but I also need to know that the homeless person is real and not faking his needs. Once, I saw this homeless guy outside a McDonald's asking for spare change to get food. A women came out of the place and offered him a quarter pounder. The homeless person said, "No thanks, I'm a vegetarian" Let's see, if you are hungry and homeless, does it make sense to obsess about whether you're eating meat or not? (My silly question, I know)
