    Chapter 2

I'm delighted to know that you're enjoying the story. Lol - there are many chapters ahead for you, so I hope your enjoyment continues.
  2. Yay! Keep up the good work, Drew. Your question about responsibility can't really be answered properly by an outsider. Lol - too many variables: The quality of the teaching. The effort on the students' part The volume of material covered Support mechanisms available

    Chapter 6

Many, many years ago (lol - about 50) I was privileged to be invited to stay for a time with First Australian people in a 'bush camp' as they called it - eating wild honey, turtle cooked on a beach fire, and kangaroo - camped under a shelter with no walls and layers of bark for a roof - and having a talk with an Elder which is is strong in my mind to this day. Still one more member to complete the group - next chapter.

    Chapter 6

Oh my! You sure are seeing many interesting ideas, some which I wish I'd considered. Remember that Keiran is the son of the High King and that he is 200 years old.

    Chapter 6

Thanks DD! Lol - the orange rock is not really an orange rock - as will soon be revealed.

    Chapter 6

Thank you I very much agree with you about First Australian culture. 60,000+ yrs of culture and harmonious interaction with the diverse and mostly harsh Aussie environment boggles my mind.

    Chapter 6

Chapter 6. For the next two days the College group was exploring and camping at Kings Canyon so it wasn't till their return to Alice Springs that they caught up with Woorawa again. He stayed talking for almost an hour and his news was that the eye doctor had run a whole barrage of tests which all showed his eyes were in perfect condition, and that everything was organised for the special trip they'd planned in their talk at the corroboree. The original plan was for an evening meeting but whe

    Chapter 5

Thank you! I plan to post the next chapter tomorrow and in it, as well as visiting a special setting I think you'll remember, Kieran is guided to some interesting self discoveries by the wise elder.

    Chapter 5

'Fascinating' - great to hear! That's a very interesting thought about the 'sprituality'. The fantasy side starts to ramp up from here on.
  10. Palantir

    Chapter 4

Lol - the maths is purely to show Keiran's special thinking ability and doesn't really feature much more. 'cronies' - I love this apt description- hmm! getting their due might be rather interesting.

    Chapter 4

Yes, Keiran is facing some serious challenges rather well. And yes, the elves face their own challenge with Rhys's gift - how will they cope?

    Chapter 3

Hmm! Interesting conjectures. Some answers are soon revealed, others much later from Keiran & Co's point of view. I'm delighted you're still enthralled. I made a big check of chapter 6 this morning and some big revisions are required so it might be a few weeks before the next post.

    Chapter 5

Yes, the migraines result from Lord Maynor's direction in the Realms. It will be a while yet before Keiran & Co figure out exactly how it all works.

    Chapter 5

Lol - lots more happenings when actions and reactions escalate. Since you're interested, here are a couple of links to the Caterpillar Dreaming rock art Woorawa shows Keiran and Rhys: http://www.pbase.com/travelgame/image/87433591 and this link shows a broader view - you need to scroll down to the Emily Gap picture. https://www.photoreview.com.au/locations/australia/the-east-macdonnell-ranges/

    Chapter 5

Chapter 5. *** Rhys was reading a novel outside and his face lit up at Kieran's happy expression. "That wasn't long. You said you might be doing a whole new exam." "They asked me about the methods I’d use instead, and I only had to show them I knew what I was doing. I could tell they were on my side almost straight away. Mr B must have told them about the study method we used because they got me to use it for only one problem." "Just one? And they’ve given your scholarship ba

    Chapter 4

Thanks, @centexhairysub, for your thoughtful comments. Yes, Rhys is central to the story but several new and important characters come on the scene in the next few chapters. Lol - Geston is an ass - but - remember that some of his assness (if that's a word) is directed and exaggerated by Lord Maynor.

    Chapter 4

Hi @chybrain, Thanks for your interest. The idea for the title came from a word I've always liked and associated with magic. - 'WIDDERSHINS' I always understood it to mean 'anticlockwise' but when I checked for the story I found out that it's from two words of German origin and means 'against the sun'. - lol - it works for the Northern Hemisphere because the sun's direction appears as clockwise, but in the Southern Hemisphere where I live the sun's direction appears as anticlockwise. At any rate, I used the 'against' part (widder) to represent 'against the norm' for attraction in the Elven Realms, and joined the 'kin' for people or family. So, the title is my creation and not a real word.

    Chapter 4

Yes, a very true friend and, yes indeed, Rhys's involvement will be crucial.

    Chapter 4

Chapter 4. *** "That's crazy. He was there in the room with me all the time. He knows I couldn't have, and why’s he getting you to tell me all this? He should be doing it himself." It was a week after the scholarship exam and Mr B. had just told Kieran the senior maths lecturer was claiming he must have cheated somehow because his results were too good to be true. "He knew I'd been coaching you, Kieran, and that it was on my recommendation you entered, so he discussed it with me

    Chapter 2

Thank you Lol - a bit of humour is great in a story - great to hear it's worked.

    Chapter 3

Yep! Your thinking is right about the place, a real place, and we do meet a special young First Australian - but his name is Woorawa not Mirrigan.
  22. Palantir

    Chapter 3

Whoops! Mistake and I can't see how to delete.
  23. Palantir

    Chapter 2

Thank you. I cheat, well it's not really cheating, because the settings are real and the experiences are based on treasured memories. I've camped at the base of the Fortress four times, watched another camper using the fire sticks, had the moon-rise trick me into thinking a wildfire was approaching, and woken with the ground outside my tent crisp and crunchy with the frost. I've abseiled and explored at Hollow Mountain and a wild honey-eater really did land on my shoulder and then my head. My mind boggles at the First Australian culture which has lived pretty much in harmony with this strange old continent for 50 or 60 thousand years.

    Chapter 3

Great to see your interest is still being held. There's some time, and drama, back at College before the next travel adventure.
