Mark's Poem Archive - 4. The cubby hole
The Cubby Hole
It’s cold and dark; I’m wracked with pain,
Just asked for a hug and beaten again,
It’s a sin she screamed, you dirty lad,
You’re ugly, you’re a slug, you’re evil! Bad!
Through one eye I searched the floor,
For the raggy blanket I always wore,
It must be true the bible said,
If I’m all those things, I should be dead!
Why did she hate me? Why was she mad?
Was it all because I looked like my dad?
He raped her, and left, leaving nothing behind,
But a broken woman who went out of her mind!
It was my entire fault, I was her sin,
All I remembered was the pain I was in,
My face was a mess, all swollen and red,
From the fists she’d rained over face and head!
That time has now passed, and I am a man,
To get through each day the best way I can,
I try so hard to overcome my past,
But the moments are fleeting and quickly pass!
I must carry on, or the battle is lost,
The loss of a life is such a cost,
I must carry on I have a debt to repay,
To Luke, and to Sue and my friends on GA.
