Murmers at the Dusk of Day - 1. Dream Lover

This first poem is one that the mere idea of "Whispers in the Dark" immediately brought to mind. When is one apt to hear whispers but when you are alone with your lover. Welcome to my Dream Lover.

Dream Lover

Darkness swallows all the shadows, dimming any light

As he comes to me like a creature of the night

Kisses rain down on me

A touch

A tease

Till I am his

My body is his instrument; one he knows just how to play

I’d live for this pleasure, but he refuses appear to me each day

His touch sooths my burning skin

A balm

A fire

Till all is but desire

The things that are done in the cool darkness of the night’s moon

Would make Aphrodite blush, even if it ends for me too soon

His voice is but a whisper

A word

A name

Then the bed is empty

I cling to the fading scent, the stolen moments of time

Where love is happily shown, not hidden like a crime

Once more alone in bed

No sleep

No peace

And a ruined heart as well.

The reality of light as dawn shatters dark’s hold

Making all the dreams fall way before I get too bold

No sign that he was here

No cologne

No stains

Just a pain left in my heart of a love that could have been

The memories are mixed

Now that I’m alone

The heart was not made

To stand on its own

And whispered words of love

Are things that I’ve outgrown

So my first idea when I read the suggestion for the poetry anthology was the soft whispers of love one tells the other in the heat of passion, and the memories of that when the heat is gone. Comments are always welcome. If you enjoyed it feel free to click that like button.
