Enigma - 16. Chapter 16 - Something Comes

I have no idea how long we lay there; sometimes speaking quietly but mostly just lost in each other. If there had ever been any doubt about our feelings for each other, in that one short hour they were banished forever.

Although Silver is in constant pain he doesn’t complain, not once. The only sign is the flicker in his eyes and an occasional quiet sigh. This more than anything else seals the deal. In those moments I lose my heart completely.

We have come a long way and I regret the time we lost, although I believe that Silver has not been ready for it until now, and neither have I. It wouldn’t have worked if we had pursued this sooner.

It breaks my heart that this beautiful person has been hurt so much for so long. And it breaks it even more than I can’t stop his suffering, I can’t protect him, I can’t stop what is happening and what is about to happen to him. Tears run down my face and Silver wipes them away.

“It will be alright River.”

“No... no it won’t. They’re going to kill you... they’re going to kill us both.”

Silver’s eyes fall from my face and he looks sad. “I know. I’ve been here before.” I don’t know whether he is talking about the place or the situation, after a moment’s contemplation I decide it doesn’t matter. “It will be over soon, one way or the other and then...” He smiles wanly, “...at least it won’t hurt any more.”

I stroke his face and he closes his eyes, losing himself in my touch. I wish I could run my hands over his body and take away the pain... but there’s no point in thinking like that. I pray with all my heart that the police will find us, that someone will come and save us from this hell, this torment. I am in such pain emotionally and I would have fallen apart right there and then if I hadn’t kept reminding myself that no matter how much pain I am feeling Silver’s is so much worse and if he can face it and bear it so can I.

The first we know that anything is about to happen is when it does. Faith appears from nowhere with all of his goons like a swarm of black hornets. Without ceremony he has two of the men yank Silver (and I still can’t quite manage to think of him as anything else) roughly to his feet, while the other two do the same with me.

Silver cries out and can’t stand but they don’t care. While the goons hold him upright Faith brings his arms forward and secures the straps so they are bound in front of him. I haven’t noticed but to one side of the mattress, just under the window there is a chain dangling from somewhere in the rafters. It has a large ring attached to it which dangles at just about head height.

The goons drag an unresisting Silver over to the ring and secure his wrists to it and then haul on the chain raising his hands above his head and lifting his body until only the balls of his feet are on the floor.

While they are doing this the other two goods strap me back in the chair. It is positioned so that I can see what is going on clearly, too clearly.

I notice in horror something that I have not noticed before. The floor around Silver’s feet is stained black. In the dim light I can't be sure but it looks a lot like blood and a quick glance over at the mattress that we had been lying on for so long, makes me wonder about the rusty stains. This is not the first time they have used this place for something like this. I wonder if this is where they brought Silver and David that first time. I shiver at the thought.

“Not long now Silver.” Faith purrs as he runs his hands over Silver’s body. It is elongated by the stretch and every muscle group stands out in perfect bass relief. As he is standing behind Silver I can’t see everything that Faith is doing but I can see how Silver jerks and grunts when he deliberately applies pressure to the painful areas. Faith just laughs.

“The Master is close. He asks that we ‘prepare you’ for his pleasure. Do you feel ‘prepared’ Silver? Tenderised enough?”

Silver doesn’t answer. His head is hanging forwards and I wonder if he is even conscious.

I am sick to my stomach. Part of me wants to run for my life, to run far and fast and never look back... but part of me wants to leap from the chair and batter Faith’s leering face until there is nothing but pulp under my hands.

Faith puts his arms around Silver from behind, pulling him hard against him and runs his hands over his stomach and lower abdomen. Silver hisses and when Faith lets his fingers rove freely over the hairless groin area to stroke and tease his inner thighs his head comes up and he moans. “No.”

“Oh yes, my dear. Did you think that the Master would let you go without one last lesson? After all, at one time you were his favourite slave. It appears that he’s nostalgic for the old times and he wants to play with his toy one last time before he throws it away.”

While one hand holds Silver’s squirming body tight against his own Faith teases his cock with light strokes of his fingers. My eyes widen and my heart starts pounding as I realise what he is about to do. Surely not... surely he wouldn’t

“I won’t...” Silver begins, and tries to struggle but is defeated by his own pain. Only half conscious he lets his head fall back onto Faith’s shoulder.

“That’s right, little one, relax and it makes it so much easier.”

Silver moans as Faith’s expert ministrations bring life to his flaccid penis. Gritting his teeth he tries so hard not to respond but there is some conditioning that is too deep to shake. Faith whispers in his ear, too low for me to hear and Silver’s writhing takes on a different dimension.

He raises his head and looks at me with tears rolling down his face but he is helpless. Although he could try to pull away or twist he can’t move far and even standing still hurts, every movement brings a hiss of pain and a tightening of those gorgeous muscles in his belly.

Faith lets go of him, making sure that his body is still pressed against him and runs his other hand over his body, down his side and back over his buttocks, rubbing up and down between them, making Silver squirm despite the pain. Moments later Silver shudders and moans and his eyes roll as he lets his head fall back again.

“That’s the way my pretty.” Faith croons. “You know you can’t resist. It feels so good doesn’t it? Open up and let me in. You know you want to. You know you can’t resist.”

Silver cries out and his body jerks. I don’t want to think of what Faith is doing to him. It sickens me to hear the words that are spilling from his mouth, hypnotic words that manipulate his mind as his hands are manipulating his body. In his semi conscious state, his mind dulled by pain, Silver is helpless to resist and he is soon rock hard in Faith’s hand, moaning with something closer to pain than pleasure as Faith continues his unseen assault.

“Oh yes. You feel so good... so good. It’s surprising how tight you still are after all the cocks you’ve had up there. Been doing your exercises like a good boy?” Silver jerks and cries out, ending in a long moan of anguish. “Oh come now Silver, don’t pretend you’re not enjoying this. You’ve never had any trouble accommodating before. And it isn’t even a cock. Do you remember how big the Master is? Would you prefer that I just leave you unprepared so he can tear you to shreds while he fucks you half to death?”

“What’s the difference?” Silver whispers and Faith laughs.

“Oh there’s a difference, trust me there’s a difference. The difference is whether you end your days quickly and painlessly with a bullet through the head or you bleed out your life slowly and agonisingly while the Master paints pictures with your blood. And of course there is always your friend to think about. Do you really want him to have to watch you ripped to shreds in front of his eyes?”

Although I appreciate that Faith is being metaphorical and ruthlessly cruel, and whilst I realise that Silver isn’t being left with much choice in the matter, his words are painting pictures in my head that I really don’t want to face. I don’t want to have to watch what is about to happen but even so, and even knowing that the end is coming one way or another and coming soon I am praying that whatever happens to Silver it will be painless and quick.

“I have no idea why, but the Master is being unusually generous and has given specific instructions that I am to give you pleasure in your last moments, as you are undoubtedly going to give him... so relax and enjoy, little one.” Faith’s unseen actions become more frantic and Silver rises on his tip toes throwing himself back against Faith, his resolve crumbling as his conditioned responses come flooding back.

Rocking his hips as best he can, given the position he is in and the pain he is experiencing Silver breathes in gasps and writhes against Faith who seems to be enjoying himself far too much. I am ashamed to admit that, much as the whole thing is sickening me, I find myself strangely turned on by it. I hate myself for it but the sight of that beautiful body stretched out in its full glory, back arched and cock erect, squirming under Faith’s expert double assault makes my own cock twitch in my pants and my breathing quicken.

“Close your eyes little one, relax into it. You know the score. Today is a little different, today is a special treat. The Master wants to take his time with you and he doesn’t want anything... messy getting in the way so you can let go of that famous control because this time you get to ride the roller coaster right to then end. Let go Silver, let go.” His voice purrs on, whispering in Silver’s ear as his fingers work their magic and soon Silver has practically collapsed against him and is shaking all over, his body covered with a sheen of perspiration. He seems about to be torn apart by the irresistible urge that is building within. But he holds on. For what seems like an impossible amount of time he holds on.

Faith really is an expert. His fingers tug and tease, stroke and pull and I am almost cumming myself from just watching what he is doing to Silver. With long smooth strokes he makes Silver’s engorged cock twitch and strain then flicks his fingers over the head, using the pre cum as a lubricant to awaken almost unbearable sensations in that most sensitive part.

My eyes are wide and I can't take my eyes off Faith’s hand. My breathing is quickening and I have to concentrate very hard not to move my hips. The sensations in my groin are becoming almost painful and I fight with guilt and horror, wanting nothing more than to look away but being completely unable to do so. And yet still Silver holds on.

“You’re a little too good at this aren’t you? Don’t make me hurt you Silver. I’m tired of this little game now. Whatever the Master says, however much he wants to enjoy this I am not going to stand here all day and pleasure you... you don’t have that time. Don’t forget, I know all the tricks too. I can make you cum whether you want to or not but at this point I really don’t want to hurt you any more than I have to, whether you believe that or not.”

Lowering his head Faith buries his face in Silver’s hair and begins to kiss his neck. Silver jerks at the first bite and Faith moves his lips up to whisper in his ear again which causes the trembling in his body to intensify.

Silver starts to moan and then it turns into a strange keening sound as he fights desperately to keep control of his body but Faith is too good and his conditioning too deep. Faith bites him again and suddenly he arches his back, throws back his head and gives a cry that sounds like it expresses some indescribable torment as his body finally succumbs and convulses, ejaculating in a shining arc that shoots an impossible distance away from his body.

Still moaning he shudders and shoots again and again and then slumps in his bonds as Faith releases him, fastidiously wiping his hands on a white silk handkerchief.

“Good boy Silver, very impressive. You held out for a lot longer than I had expected. I doubt your boyfriend would go for long given the look on his face and that uncomfortable bulge in his trousers.”

I am suddenly terrified. Are they going to do that to me now? But apart from a leer from Faith no one comes near me.

I am certain that Silver has passed out because he is literally hanging from the chain with no attempt to take his weight and relieve the pressure on his arms. Faith slaps his arse but there is no response. Chuckling Faith starts to walk towards the door when the sound of a car breaks he stillness from outside.

He is smiling, right up to the point he realises that there is more than one car out there. Many doors slam and there is a sound of running feet. Something metallic strikes the floor and rolls tinkling into the middle and the next thing I know there is smoke everywhere and all hell breaks loose.

There is running and shouting and gunshots but I can’t see anything, not just because I am restrained to the chair but because of the smoke. I should be happy. We are being rescued. I know we are being rescued from the reaction of Faith and his men who have all disappeared. So why am I not glad about it? Because I am too bloody afraid.

I call out to Silver but there is no response. I am choking from the smoke, my eyes streaming and burning. I struggle fruitlessly against my bonds, thinking of nothing other that to get to him, to throw my arms around him and protect him.

It all happens so fast. From the time the smoke canister hits the floor to the time that the smoke clears and a police officer in full body armour releases me from my bonds can’t be more than three or four minutes. But in the meantime a lot happens. In the meantime my world is shattered. In the meantime a dark shadow appears at my side.

I can’t see who it is through the smoke and my streaming eyes but I know. I can tell from the smell of his cologne, from the hunch of his shoulders and I can certainly tell when he spits out “Filth.” For a brief moment the smoke eddies and I can see the gun in his hand. It isn’t pointing at me.

Fruitlessly I scream... “Silver... no... look out...” How on earth can he do that? He can’t run. He can’t dodge. He can’t fight. He can do nothing but wait and I don’t even know if he is aware of what is going on. Then Faith screams. “For the Master”, fires once into the smoke and is lost in the enveloping whiteness.

I can’t see. I can’t see anything. I didn’t hear a sound after the gun went off, no cry, no call, nothing, so I have no idea if he hit anything. Silver was unconscious. Would he have made a sound if he had been shot? Would I know? Would I sense something?

I am in torment, in hell until another figure appears before me through the thinning smoke and, speaking reassuring words I really don’t want to hear begins to release me.

“It’s alright. You’re safe now. Everything is under control.”

No it isn’t. Nothing is under control. Nothing in my world is under control. In my world everything is shattering and I can’t put it together again until I know. I have to know.

As soon as I am able I spring to my feet and try to push past him. He grabs hold of my arm and smiles kindly. “Maybe you don’t want to...”

“Fuck you.” I scream and tear myself out of his grasp, almost overbalancing and falling as I stumble towards the last place I had seen Silver. The smoky white world is unreal. I feel as if am in a nightmare. Now that the smoke is thinning I can see shapes, lots of them and they are as nightmarish as the feelings that are coursing through me.

At last I see Silver and skid to a halt. There are two men holding him, one behind and one in front while a third releases the chain. The two men catch him and lower him carefully to the floor. But that doesn’t mean anything does it? He was unconscious anyway, wasn't he?

Suddenly I can’t move. I have always scoffed at the idea that anyone can be paralysed by fear but it’s true, you can be, I am. I can’t see much of Silver because the man who was holding him is crouched between us. All I can see are his arms, still stretched over his head, although the man who freed the chain is unbuckling the wrist straps, and his legs.

Nothing is moving but that’s okay, isn’t it. He is unconscious that’s all. He’s hurt but he’ll heal. He’s not hurt that bad. When he wakes up he’ll be fine. He has to be. He just has to be. But I can’t move forward. I can’t go to him because I am afraid, so afraid that he won’t.

Still frozen with fear I stare at Silver’s face. It is turned towards me and, as I watch he stirs. Relief floods me, even more so when I hear his voice. It sounds strange but it calls my name and it frees me.

Practically knocking the police officer out of the way I throw myself to the floor next to him and reach for his hand. That’s when I realise. That’s when it hits me. That’s when my world shatters utterly and for a moment I think my mind unhinges and I taste true insanity.

The floor beneath my knees is wet and sticky. Even in the semi darkness, augmented by the last wisps of smoke, I can see that it is blood. It is everywhere, soaking the floor, blanketing Silver’s body, bubbling from under a pad of dark cloth that the other policeman is pressing onto his chest.

“River.”

Silver is breathing in shallow, laboured breaths, his teeth clenched with pain but when I tear my eyes away from the blood and raise them to his eyes they are fixed on my face, remarkably clear under the circumstances. He even smiles and when I find his hand he squeezes it.

“We... always knew...”

“No! We didn’t know... at least I didn’t. I never accepted and I don’t now. I knew we would be saved. I knew you would be safe.” It’s as if his words unlocked something because once I start speaking I can’t stop. “I called them, the police, I have a panic button and I pressed it and it has a homing signal and I knew they would find us. I kept my word Silver, I protected you. I promised I would protect you and I did. I saved you... and you’re bloody well not going to die or I will kill you.”

This time Silver’s smile is wider and he opens his mouth to speak but instead he coughs and looks surprised as blood sprays from his mouth and a deep shudder passes through his body.

“No Silver. Don’t do this. Don’t even think of doing this. You’re going to be okay. Just hang on and you are going to be okay.

Again Silver struggles to speak, swallowing blood. “River... I’m sorry.”

“No! I’ve told you... you can’t do that. Don’t be sorry... just be okay. I can’t... I can’t do it if you’re not okay... not now. You’ve been through so much... so very much and you’ve survived. You have to do it again, just once more, just this time. After this time I am never going to let you out of my sight and it is never going to happen again. Please Silver... please... promise me... promise me you are not going to give up... promise me you’ll fight, that you’ll beat this, that you’ll be okay.”

Looking less focussed and far more spaced out Silver smiles again and nods his head. Blood it tricking from his mouth and making its own little pool under his head. “I... promise...”

I watch him fight... the pain, the weakness, the growing darkness that is enfolding him. I watch it in his eyes, in the effort he puts into breathing and then I watch something fade and he sighs as his eyes roll up and his hand slips from mine.

“No! No, I won’t let you go... I’ll never let you go. Silver... Silver come back to me, please come back to me.”

Okay, even you can't be that cruel to save them then to kill Silver off. Of course Since there are about 9 chapters and a sequel to come, I am totally positive he won't die - that and I snuck a peek to the end to be sure :P But dag Nephy you are sure putting a hurting on Poor Silver's body. What do you have against beautiful men that you are always hurting them? Silver, Astrin? I mean what??? :P

All of them :) Someone might consider that it's some kind of deep seated desire to mar beauty or a profound fear of beautiful men... but I think I do it just because I can... and it's fun. Seriously, I feel that emotions are magnified and clarified when something happens to the ones we love and that is, I think, what happens here.

I'm feeling physically sick. I can't stop reading. Silver will, must survive.

Nephy, your dark mind is scary, beautiful but scary, it goes beyond depths I expected. Huge respect for you.

That is just too cruel I wanted that shot to be for Faith... it can't end like this.

I agree with Andrew and I am going to see that he makes it he has too.

Considering I'm on book V, I think it's likely Silver survives :)
