Noisy Voices - 1. Ignore It?

Mother Nature can get a little out of control sometimes

Ignore It?

“Honestly Z, do you really think this is something we can afford to ignore?”

“Of course we can ignore it. We are gods, and not only gods Jupiter, the bosses! We are NOT going to get involved just because Mother Nature is PMS-ing a little.”

“This is NOT a little PMS Zeus! She has been building pressure for years now. Katrina and Sandy? Those are what happen when she is premenstrual. Little temper tantrums that blow out after a few days of destruction. But this? This is building to something really big. I am worried what will happen when she finally blows.”

“You worry too much J. Stop being a wet towel. What’s the worst she can do?”

“Wet blanket Z. The phrase is “Don’t be a wet blanket”, not a wet towel, and Pompeii comes to mind. Mount St Helen's. Mount Redoubt. Remember the time her plaything got himself killed when he was working for Noah? She didn't stop crying for more than a month! That Jesuit wanted enough rain to scare folks, not drown the whole damn world! And need I remind you of the cold shoulder she gave us for eons when we insulted her? Hello! The humans called it “The Ice Age”!

“You may have a point there J.”

“Perhaps I should have a word with her, convince her to take some time off and hang out at that hot springs she likes. I could send Hermes down with Roses and a ton of her favorite chocolates. I really think we need a backup plan though!”

“Do you really think she is that pissed? Who did what to get her knickers in such a tight knot? Did someone break that fancy new toilet of hers?”

“That’s a bidet, not a toilet, and this goes so far beyond a broken toilet. I don’t know at this point what has her so pissed, nor do I particularly care. All I am concerned about is getting her into a spring sort of mood before this winter lasts till Samhain!”

“Maybe she is just feeling neglected. You know how Time gets. He is all playful and childish at New Years running around in that diaper, and by fall he is so tired he barely drags along going into the holidays. Maybe he is neglecting Natty. We should have a talk with him. Maybe he could shed some light on Natty’s mood.”

“SHHHHH Z! You know how she hates being called Natty! If she hears you it will be an apocalyptic fit for sure!”

Zeus covered his mouth and stared at Jupiter with wide eyes, looking like an owl. It was true, Mother Nature had been particularly moody this winter, but Zeus had not considered why, or that he may have contributed to it by insisting on the silly nickname she so hated. He looked around as though she might be about to strike him with one of his own lightning bolts.

“Hmmm…Maybe dinner reservations on her favorite cloud…”

Mother Nature can get a little out of control sometimes

What a cute idea! Where I live it has been a cold dry winter, but I do feel for those in the "snow belt" this year.

I was just a little thrown though that you used the Greek name for Hermes and Zeus, but not for Hera (Juno.) Juno is her Roman name. I know it's a bit persnickety, but it did bother that part of my brain that is a bit OCD about these kinds of things.

Did i screw up? It has been many many years since I studied mythology of any sort - I was going for Zeus' counterpart - a convo between two males.

Wonderfully amusing concept, Kitt. Whoever is pissing Mother Nature off had better stop. I noticed that in your viewpoint, we are all basically at the mercy of a woman...even the most powerful gods tremble before her... how very appropriate...it is the way of things. Thank you for the out of left field chuckle...immensely enjoyable, Sis... and don't worry... SPRING will come, Natty willing  Cheers...Gary

I liked the idea of the main god talking to his alter ego (Zeus and Jupiter). He is such an egomaniac that of course he'd prefer hanging out with himself, LOL. And of course he fears Gaia, after all she helped him overthrow his father, and I'm pretty sure she'd cut him the same deal if he disrespects her. But I always thought the sky was her lover and not Time. Although, I'm sure it takes more than one man to keep her happy.

Now we want to know what they came up with to placate her.

I wasn't thinking of Time as a lover, just as family who was not treating her nicely, but I can certainly see how you would think I meant it that way. If they ever figure out how to make her happy I will let you know!

Hey now - I am not the one who decided it was MOTHER nature and not some version of a male persona. All I know for sure is she has been pretty pissed off this winter, and I don't particularly want to wait for Samhain (end of October) for the spring thaw!

Great writing, Kitt! :2thumbs:

OOOPS! Thanks lit lover too! Lisa - your thanks is in LL's reply!

He didn't really "give" me a break - it was more like I had to shut these two up before I could concentrate on the next Sanctuary chapter!

Have you got a better explanation for some of the weird weather patterns we have had? The weather geeks don't seem to!

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature...

Loved it, Kitt. No wonder you and I get along, your sense of humor is as twisted as mine. That was the perfect read with my first cup of coffee.

Maybe I need to send my ganja smoking cupid over to visit Natty, she sounds a bit tense to me! :D

Thank you Carlos! Twisted is a good description of my imagination most of the time. Natty certainly needs something. Maybe one of those hunky mermen with some of the funny seaweed? Some of em have to be straight, or at least bi, or the species would not have lasted so long!
