A Man in a Room, and other poems - 20. life complete

Poem No. 53

It takes a lot to

be what you're not

Dreams are cheap

and reality, rare.

Give yourself to fate

and worry a lot.

Make your own way

have worry to spare

In mystery we are born

and to it wed.

Aye, what specter now

do we see,

What hellacious vision

could that be

Standing on the hill –

is it truth, or me?

Poem No. 54

Sweet gentle kiss

Of my useless reason –

Cruel chance to miss

Release from my prison

Poem No. 55

I saw two kittens in the roses today

I saw that they longed for nothing to say

Not of the pain or the beauty of the rose;

Here I saw beauty and beast are the same

Together they live only for life

And life is theirs complete.

Kittens in the Roses

Some comments from Lyssa:

-----------------------------------------------

53: This poem holds a lot of melancholy for me. We would call it in German "Weltschmerz", means you feel the weight and pain of living. I know this feeling very well, so that poem connects with me. I like especially the line: In mystery we are born and to it wed. There is so much mystery in life.

54: I can only assume, what must have brought you to write this. I think it was a painful time for you.

55: I love kitten in the roses. Of course, you already know, I love kittens and roses as kitten and roses ;-) But I also really love your poem and it is special to me. It has bittersweet aspects and it reminds me, that we humans tend to forget to live because of all our worries and thoughts. Also, it tells that living is a reason in itself, and we have the chance to find our own way and purpose in life. Beautifully done, Bruderherz.

There is a lot of bitterness here.. and self-hate in the last lines. It's hard to think of you being this unhappy.

54

This is very sad.. a chance you were afraid to take?

55

very sweet.. kittens and roses both. Both live just because they are here. I have issues with doing that. I have spent a lot of years thinking about why.. that i missed a lot of doing.

All three are great poems AC.

Yes, Tim, I was very sad and felt alone. Thanks for your comments and ongoing support. Muah

These are rare gems of poetry. 53 really got to me, almost every line another body blow. Like tim, I feel badly that you were so sad. 54 is compact, but just as powerful. The first two lines echo still. 55 is almost an antidote; the scene lovely and sunlit; yet kittens have claws and roses their thorns. They yearn only to live into themselves - and so the unifying theme of all three poems is revealed. Utterly beautiful.

Thank you, Parker. I you know I will take 'beautiful' as the highest praise I can receive. Hopefully these poems will move towards the resolve that made me come out within a few months of their being written. Thanks again for all your kindness and support.
