Chapter 14: Aftermath and Ending

The next morning hard on Melvin after the incident at the police station. On the one hand, he was devastated that this father had died but on the other he was happy that he no longer had to fear harm from him. Wesley had been trying to comfort him half the morning. At the same time others in the Oates home was contemplating just what life meant. Wesley and everyone took turns visiting Melvin including Brandon coming over and just sitting with him.
During this time, Jason and Jesse were discussing whether they should continue with the wedding plans or not. They weighed the pros and cons of waiting to get married, keeping on the same schedule, or just going to the courthouse They were both against continuing the plans the way they were so that only left two options for them. They discussed it over and over and concluded that they should wait for now. It just happened that Wesley heard this decision and said they shouldn’t put their happiness off for the sake of anyone. After hearing this they decided to move the wedding up to just one week away. First though, they had they had to get the proper documentation, and everything sorted before going to the courthouse.
It was a hectic week, but the day had finally come. Everyone made their way to the courthouse. The only others in attendance were the Finnegan family to serve as witnesses. It was over in a matter of minutes, but the effect would last for a lifetime. The men who had been childhood friends and had lost that friendship had regained so much more.
