Deep 6-9 - 5. Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Jake opened his eyes as the meditation session came to an end. In that moment he saw the tears running down Mel’s cheeks. He was relieved he wasn’t the only emotional one. When Mel saw Jake’s tears, both of them simultaneously raised their eyebrows. They were interrupted by the soft voice coming from one of Sir Melvin’s daughters. “I’m sorry, are you Jake?”

“Yes Ma’am.” He blushed at that moment.

“I am so happy to finally meet you. I am Kayla, my family speaks so highly of you.” She turned to Mel, “I believe you go by Mel? Like my father?”

Mel was stunned that she would know his name, he stuttered to answer, “Ye- ye- ah yes ma’am.”

“Well, I am pleased to meet you both.” She has such a powerful inviting smile. “Did you Gentlemen enjoy my class?”

They both answered in unison, “It was great!” They turned and smiled at each other. Jake took the lead and found Kayla’s smile had gotten bigger. “I feel amazing, and I loved the part of the gift of light. Our friend is in the hospital and I really could feel it connect to him.”

Mel took the next turn to speak, “I couldn’t understand at first why I couldn’t connect with Kent, that’s our friend in the hospital. I felt so good and relaxed, but, the light seemed to have a mind of its own. I swear it felt so good to be in it that I resolved to just trust the path it has chosen. I saw it fill our friend Steve first, then it went to Kent’s brother Kyle. After the light filled him it finally moved to Kent.”

“Did you see anything else?” Kayla had taken Mel’s hand as he spoke.

“Yes, it was beautiful. After it filled Kent, I saw it burst. Like an explosion of light in every direction. I thought I could feel it reaching everyone. Is that weird?”

“Mel, trust me when I tell you, you’re a very powerful spirit.” The guys looked each other with huge round eyes. “The Shambhala Society call you a Lightworker, a spiritual healer. You have an extraordinary gift to be able to pass it on further than anybody I have ever met. In my years of teaching meditation I have found that with assistance, like what we did here, most people can make one connection. Two is celebrated in our society as a miracle, but what you did Mel is truly incredible.”

“I- I- don- don’t know what to say….”

“Mel, I would like to see if we can do it again, I want to document this if we can. I would give you many free classes if you agree.”

“Yes, I would love that.”

“Jake you too, your classes are on me, I am just so excited.”

Jake stepped in, “You don’t need to do that, I am willing to pay you.”

“I know for sure when you saw the burst of light, every person in here felt it?”

Both guys jaw dropped. She continued, “I saw it fill the room and I saw as the rest of the class were rocked backwards. It was beautiful!”

*************

Jake invited Mel back to Shamus’s apartment. They only shared glances along the way, but they could sense they were thinking the same thing. Just as they entered the apartment, Jake turned to Mel, “Dude, that was the most amazing thing I have ever felt!”

“I know, right?”

“Did you know you could do that?”

“I swear I didn’t. As it was happening I was reminded of a dream I had as a kid. I was floating in a bright warm light. I loved that dream. Do you think that had anything to do with it?” Mel sat on the couch and laid his head on the back of it.

“I don’t know, but when you go back, make sure you tell Kayla all about it.” Jake made himself comfortable on a large bulky chair.

“Jake, do you think Kent will be ok?”

“I didn’t think he would earlier, but I swear to you now, I 100% do think he will come through this a better person. Actually, I think we all will.”

They sat silently reflecting for a long time. Jake allowed his eyes to close and drifted off into a peaceful sleep. As he opened his eyes he saw the patio lights were the only light in the room. Mel is asleep getfacing the back of the couch. Jake got up and grabbed a thick comfy blanket and bundled Mel up. He put a fluffy pillow in front of him and Mel instinctively embraced it. He looked so sweet and peaceful. Jake imagined Mel’s parents standing over him and thinking the same thing when he was younger.

He went to the kitchen and folded a piece of paper in half, he wrote ‘Help Yourself’ on half and propped it up like a tent for Mel to see. Then Jake made a simple ham sandwich and grabbed a glass of milk and went to bed.

When Jake woke the next morning, he stood and was impressed by the rigidity of his morning pee-on. He even took a moment to admire the tent protruding out from his light blue linen pajamas. “Not bad.”

After relieving himself he took a moment to look reasonably presentable and walked out to the living room. The couch was empty with the blanket neatly folded. There was no sign of Mel in the kitchen, but he could smell the coffee. Jake got his coffee and saw a note on the island. ‘Thank you for letting me sleep in, I made you coffee, be sure to check your messages. Love Mel’.

‘Messages huh. I don’t even know where my watch is.’ He moseyed around until he saw it in his bathroom, he must have taken it off when he brushed his teeth last night, funny he doesn’t remember that. ‘Let’s see,’ ‘Kent is awake, he seems to be in good spirits, says he’s just happy to be alive. Our parents are on the way here and we want everyone to come meet them… Love Kyle.’

Jake sat on the couch with a look of amazement, “Holy Shit, it all really happened.”

As he was almost finished with his coffee he got another message, this one from Mel, ‘Do you want to meet me for breakfast at the wharf?’ Jake responded, ‘Is a half hour sufficient?’ ‘Perfect, see you there.’

Jake sat the cup on the table and ran to the shower. He threw himself together in record time and even took a moment to check himself in a mirror before running out the door, “Looking pretty good!”

“Oh My God Mel!” Jake scared him half to death as Jake plopped himself down across from him.

“You scared the shit out of me, now I have to go change my pants.” They both chuckled, “Kinda freaky isn’t it.”

Jake made his eyes huge, “Well, yeah!”

“Look, I don’t want to talk about it around anyone else, this could all be coincidence.”

“Ok, I won’t mention it, but I don’t believe in the word coincidence. I think it’s a word atheist made up to be a cop-out for the real miracle right in front of their faces. This is nothing short of a miracle and you should be proud to have been used to give it away like you did.”

Mel couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear, “Ok, so let’s say I believe you, what do you think I should do?”

“Oh come on, Mel, you know the answer to this. You don’t need me to spell it out. Just do it, maybe it’ll never happen again, or maybe it will become something you can develop.”

“Into what?”

“Heck, I don’t know. Maybe you can join the psychic network, or maybe you can get hired by a rockband to do their lighting for them.” They got some sideways looks as they laughed too loud and too long.

“Oh my god, that was funny.” They both kept chuckling, it was worse if they looked at each other.

“Alright, Kayla said she has some free time in a half hour, I’m going to head over there now. Do you want to go see Kent together or do you want to go separate?”

“I am wanting to go see my babies, I feel guilty I didn’t go at all yesterday. They are getting so big! How about you message me when you get done and we see what’s going on.”

Mel nodded and fist bumped Jake. Jake watched him leave and then turned to go to the lab. His excitement to see them was getting so strong that he almost took of in a run.

************

Mel had a conflict building inside. His instinct is to be cautious and doubtful that he had any kind of ‘abilities’. On the other hand, there’s no denying the wonderful feeling that came from yesterday’s meditation. The result of this conflict manifested itself by stopping and taking a couple steps towards the direction of his dorm. Followed by a determined about face to march on to see Kayla. This pattern of turning back and forth was witnessed by several passerby’s on the way to Kayla, one woman even considered notifying the authorities of a crazy person wandering around.

‘All I want to do is try to feel that way again.’

The door to Kayla’s studio was unlocked and Mel found her looking at her laptop. “Mel, you came, wonderful.”

“I almost didn’t. I must have changed my mind over a dozen times.”

“Well, I understand, it isn’t easy trying to believe that we can do what most people would call magic. But, I assure you it isn’t magic. Rather, a manifest of the power of the brain that has been ignored or even forced out of societal acceptance.”

“Do other people have the same capability?”

Kayla is busy setting up cameras, lighting inscents, and adjusting the lights. “Yes, there have been many people documented to be able to do this very thing, and also many other powerful abilities of the mind.” She guided him to a spot in the room she wants him to sit at. “What we experienced yesterday is the most powerful example of a Lightworker I’ve ever heard of. So, I don’t know if we will be able to recreate that experience on this try, and even possibly never again. It is possible that you had the perfect set of circumstances to produce that power in order to resolve an issue. But, Mel, it is also possible you can learn to control it. So, possibly you can manifest it at will and/or direct it to certain people and circumstances.” Kayla began rubbing his shoulders. “I want to warn you, never direct this power towards anger or jealousy. The evil in that power can consume you. This power is for healing and comes from an understanding of pain and sorrow combined with the desire to remove it from existence. Are you ready to give it a try?”

“I think I am.”

Kayla introduced a music that reminded him of the ancient native Americans that used music to call to the heavens. In this music he heard the call from an eagle and instantly he saw the canyon below. A small tribe, gathered at the top of the cliff, created the rhythm and the song. ‘The music is guiding you so let it take you.’

As he soared with the eagle he felt the sorrow in the music and he felt the need to call out with the sound of the eagle. ‘Feel the warmth of the sun, feel the immense sky offering escape and peace.’ Mel did too, there was joy in the gift of flight. Cries from around the world rang in his ears, some were sounds of people he knew and others just told of their pain, but all of them deserve to be released. Mel felt the passion fill his chest and explode, light burst in every direction removing all things from view except the warmth and comfort of the light. ‘We will begin our decent, it is time to walk among your friends and family to share your love’

Mel sat in complete silence just feeling his body vibrating, until Kayla spoke directly to him, “Mel, how do you feel?”

He opened his eyes to reveal a tear falling from each eye. “I feel amazing, like I have no fear, anxiety, or even sorrow. It’s almost like everything was explained to me by a parent who made it all better.”

“You did it again, Mel. It was beautiful, do you want to see it?”

“Really, you think you can see it?”

Kayla just nodded and Mel jumped to his feet. They sped over to the laptop and Kayla hit play of a recording. As the music started Mel thought it was as he would imagine, he’s sitting there with his eyes closed, no big deal right?

He saw a tear rolling down his cheek. Then it was like someone turned on a black light that made a glow around him. Suddenly the glow became intense, “Is it me or does it look like I am hovering just above the floor?”

Kayla smiled but she didn’t answer, they just continued to watch. As if pointing a flashlight into the lens of the camera, everything was drowned out by the light. Just as quickly as it began it was over, he saw himself sitting on the floor with tears flowing down his cheeks.

“What do you think of that Mel?”

“Wow, is that real?”

“Yes, isn’t it beautiful?”

Mel clasped one hand under the other arm, and he clasped the other hand over his mouth. “How did you not get your voice on the recording?”

“I don’t understand?”

“You know, telling me to feel the sky and listen to the sorrow and whatever?”

Kayla’s eyes got wide, “I didn’t say anything. I wanted to see what the music could do on its own. Mel, that’s incredible you heard a voice. The Shambhala say that is the voice of God guiding you.”

Mel’s expression said it all, Kayla knew the meaning of it instantly, ‘BULLSHIT’. “I swear to you on my life, Mel, I did not speak.”

Mel felt lite headed and dropped onto his butt on the floor. Shock was vibrating through his entire body. ‘What the FUCK!’

Kayla grabbed the laptop and played the videos from the other cameras for Mel while safely sitting on the floor. There was no mistaking where the light came from, or the fact that Kayla never spoke. “Mel, can I put a camera on you and do an interview?”

Mel agreed and basically he just recounted the entire experience from his point of view. “Mel, thank you, I am so grateful to have met you. I would love if we could meet next weekend, but if for any reason you want to see me before that, you know how to find me.”

He got up and left her there, he had no desire to see anyone so he made his way to a beach and fell asleep on the sand.

*********

Jake had stopped briefly to talk to Mark about his babies and a lite chitchat. He walked around the tank where his boys were peacefully sleeping. ‘They’re so big!’ Jake grabbed the microphone, “Hi boys, Doc says you will be able to come home with me in 3 weeks. I can’t wait to show you the world. It’s so full of beautiful things and lots of fun things to do. I will do everything I can to keep you safe and feel lots of love.”

Jake continued to tell them about all the people they were going to meet, and all the places they will see. The boys started moving around until they faced each other and held each other in a hug. One of them put his head on the other’s shoulder and looked so content. Jake was overwhelmed with love and tears started running down his cheeks. The next thing he knew someone had put their arms around him him from behind, and they put their head on his shoulder. Jake turned to find his mother smiling with so much love. “My boys are all so beautiful, I am the luckiest mother and grandmother in the world.”

“Momma, I am so glad you’re here. Did Dad come with you?”

“He had some business to do back home but will be here in a couple of days. I just couldn’t wait to see you guys. They are so beautiful, aren’t they? Would you just look at that, I need a picture.” But, with Jake’s mom it’s never just A picture, it’s a thousand.

“Son, I heard about what happened to your friend, how is he doing?”

“He’s doing better than expected, let’s go get something to snack on and I’ll tell you all about it.” They both told the boys they’ll be back later and kissed the tank.

It is getting into the evening and Jake got a message from Mel right after paying the bill for the food. ‘Do you want to go see Kent and Kyle with me?’

Jakes mom liked the idea of meeting his friends so Jake agreed to meet him at the elevator near Kent’s room. Mel was already there as Jake stepped out of the elevator with his mom.

“Mel, I want you to meet my Momma.”

Mrs Redbush wrapped her arms around him, “You just look like the sweetest boy I have ever met, I am so pleased to meet you.”

”Mrs Redbush, the pleasure is all mine.” They all turned to make they’re way to Kent’s room.

As they entered they found Kent fully dressed and Kyle smiling from ear to ear. “You guys have great timing! They just gave Kent the approval to leave, Jake this is your mother, isn’t she? I remember you from the ceremony. Great to meet you Mrs Redbush!” He was so full of energy he never waited for responses. “Mrs Redbush, I am Kyle, this is my brother Kent, this is our older brother Kevin, these beautiful folks here are our Parents Kathy and Kris Blacksmith.”

The introductions continued until everyone was properly introduced. Jake reached out and took Kent into a tight hug, “I am so happy you’re ok.”

”Thank you Jake, I am grateful to be here, we were just talking about going for a walk on the trails, do you guys want to come with us? I would love it if you do.”

Everyone enthusiastically agreed to join them and walked to the elevator as they continued to chat along the way. Mrs Redbush stopped dramatically as they stepped out at the top of the hill, “My Word, would you just look at that sunset, absolutely beautiful.” She reached into her purse, “Everyone line up along here, I want a picture of you with it.”

A woman walking by with her husband stopped and offered to take the picture so Mrs Redbush could be in it as well. Funny thing is, none of them were happy about doing it, but all of them Love that picture.

As they talked and hugged they came to the spot where Jake first met Shamus. He couldn’t help but shed a tear. “I miss Shamus Momma.”

”I’m sorry baby, I wish I had answers for you, but I just don’t. I can say that if you stay strong and keep hope and love in your heart that all things will be good in your life.”

What they didn’t realize was that everyone had stopped and listened. Instinctively they all came in for a group hug. The moment they all closed their eyes, Mel burst with healing light. When they began to walk the path again there was a new energy. Jake turned to Mel and smiled in a way that said, ‘I know that was you.’ And Mel gave the face back saying, ‘yep, that was me’.
