Marty's Haiku - 7. February Haiku

The dull two-faced month
is finally behind us...
Will spring soon be here?

Just by way of explanation (although I'm sure most readers already know) January is named after the Roman God, Janus, who had two faces, one looking forwards and the other looking backwards.)

I really like this one. We've got a couple more months before spring here, although it's never too early to wish it was here.

Cheers, Val!

We've got a couple more months to go here in Ireland, as well.

But, strangely, St Bridget's Day (February 1st) is traditionally considered to be the first day of spring in Ireland.

Not sure if there's been climate change since Bridget was alive, but we can often get the worst of the winter weather after February 1st nowadays...

  It was beautiful here today... bright sunshine and 40F.  A stark contrast to the lake effect storm brewing to the west, coming tomorrow afternoon to dump a foot and a half of snow on us, along with high winds and temps plunging to single digits.  :(

I liked this one very much! Alas, the only indication of spring here was the arrival of some of my seeds that I ordered for the garden this summer.

Thanks for the kind words, Parker.

I'm hoping to get source some bare rooted fruit trees and bushes in the next couple of days. I must get those into the ground before spring arrives, to give them a chance to settle in before the main growth starts.  So if I can't source any (a possibility, due to many garden centres and nurseries being closed due to Covid-19 restrictions) I'll either have to spend a lot more on container grown ones, or just wait another year.

It was a dry, mild day here, as well. Although the sun hid for the whole day long. The Met Office is currently warning of a possibility that we could be in for another cold snap starting from Sunday, with the possibility of heavy snowfalls next week. They can't be sure though. We're too close to the Atlantic, so Irish weather (particularly on the western side) can be notoriously changeable and hence unpredictable...

I prefer to be the face looking forward. The one looking back can have that year!

Nice to be thinking of spring already. It's seventeen degrees here just now, with some sun, but snow coming soon. Nary a flower in sight!

Hope you'll have a nice haiku for spring, when it does show up! 🙂

Thanks for the comment, Geron

When I read seventeen degrees I thought "Wow, that's warm!" As I read on, I realised you must have meant degrees Fahrenheit.

I'll do my best for a spring haiku - if spring ever does arrive. ;)
