Haiku and Tanka - 5. Friendship

Friendship Haiku and Tanka

secrets whispered low

giggles often to follow

friendship in the dark

Weddings, birthdays, deaths,

births, and anniversaries,

true friends remember

silver and gold shine

in the sunlight; friendship basks

in glowing heartlight

interpersonal

relationships; nexus of

intangible webs

of heart strings - powerful things

interconnecting us all

true friends grow

near or far, they are

together

Late night phone calls, long

wordy e-mails with pictures

attached, just to talk.

Conversations concerning

nothing, telling everything.

Clandestine meetings

quick kisses, a touch or two

friends, lovers, or both?

Heart felt agony - death's touch

claiming he whom I love much

tears fall, my soul rent

blood welling from flesh fresh torn

now two lives unwisely spent

Friends and lovers breed

strange things: anger, jealousy,

even wedding rings

you are the center

of your universe; your friends

are your satellites

A lot said about friendships in general and in a personal way. I could relate to this poem. There was something in it this that forbid me to smile too widely and knowingly, a serious subtext.
Friendships should be taken seriuosly, they are a lot of hard work. Many people don't realize that a good solid friendship is almost as much hard work as a good solid marriage -- without the sex. They are serious business, but when one does work they are so much fun it's well worth it.

Glad you enjoyed them, Maria,
