Daydreams - 1. Daydreams

Daydreams

He's the kind of guy
Who knows a lot about women
He likes to talk about girls
But when he starts to daydream
He likes to dream of boys

Sometimes I look at him and I look into his eyes
I notice the way he dreams of boys with a smile
Daydreams he just can't hide

She's a dazzling girl, he says
He likes to hang out with Laura
He likes to talk about girls
But when he stops his talking
His mind turns back to boys

She’s a real hottie, he says
He likes to kick back with Liz
He likes to hang out with girls
But when left alone
His likes to contemplate boys

Daydreams he just can't hide
Sometimes I look at him and I look into his eyes
I notice the way he dreams of boys with a smile

He's the kind of guy
Who knows a lot about women
He likes to talk about girls
But when he starts to daydream
He likes to dream of Boys

So you've captured my early teen years perfectly. I wanted to dream away the boys and place the girls by my side but they kept switching places. Fantastic job Dolores!

I could just picture him, and how he couldn't help look at the boys. What has me wondering, though, is who is the narrator? The poem is in first person, so there is someone noticing what he daydreams about. Is it really that obvious, or is the narrator seeing more than others (and maybe more than is really there?)

Is the narrator a girl who sighs at what won't be, or a boy who sees a wish fulfilment? Or, hopefully, a boy who sees a future?

Thanks, Dolores! I'm not usually good with poetry, but I like this one

Thank you, Graeme :) The narrator might be someone who knows him well, a sister perhaps or a good friend.

He hangs with all the girls but dreams about all the boys. :)

Nice portrayal of the confusion and denial of youth... it would be so much easier if our minds could make the decisions about what our hearts want. Some of us take a long time to figure out we can't fight it...loved it... Cheers...Gary
