The Space between the Notes is a marvellous story of two young men, musicians, who find that the music they write together draws one into reality and the other out of silence. Simply beautiful writing.

Response from the author:

Your review eloquently sums up the story. I appreciate you taking the time to add it. Comments and reviews are so very useful as well as in a way being a sort of payment in kind for my writing. Thank you.

This short story in an endearing masterpiece where two boys, complete opposites, are drawn together by chance when they are assigned to become musical partners for the Conservatory's premiere  performance.  Their preparation for The Showcase starts out with a bit of tension, as Julian, a young man from a wealthy and influential family, attempts to take control of the partnership.  Unwilling to accept what Julian is trying to do, Leo, a scholarship student who is mute, pushes back.  He will not allow his inability to speak serve as his tacit approval for what Julian is attempting to do.

There are a myriad of social, psychological, and emotional pressures that come into play and intertwine with what the two are trying to accomplish, so we're left to wonder which of those forces will win out.  This is an emotional rollercoaster of constant postering to see how the scene will turn out.  Whether it will be Julian, Leo, or a combination of the two that takes control, but it never let my eyes wander from the screen even momentarily and kept me fully engaged with guessing how it will end.  I give this intriguing and deeply moving tale my highest recommendation and urged everyone to read it.
