Enchanted Life - 4. Chapter 4 White and Violets

Every night, Chance would sneak into my room, to talk. Everytime he came, he would sit on my bed with his legs crossed. Each visit he told me more about his life. More about who he was as a person.

He had a hard life before he transferred to Celestial Academy. I don’t know why he felt like he could trust me with this information. Maybe it was his way of getting to know someone. Maybe it was his way of trying to get me to talk about my powers.

Some nerve this guy had.

I think he knew I was suspicious of his constant knocking, because he tried to explain why he knocked on my door. He claimed his reason for knocking was ‘I was new at school, and he knows the feeling of being the new kid.’

Laying his insecurities out on the table was sweet. It was actually working too. I couldn’t help feeling closer to him. I came into this thinking I was going to, pretend being his friend, and learn his weaknesses. Now, I’m starting to see he is a good person.

He probably is someone I can open up to. But I’m still not sure.

If I want someone to open up to, I have Talan and Ashlynn. Who are apart of my group. I have to be smarter. Chance could be scoping things out for the emo group. Who knows?

The days at Celestial Academy were the same. Wake up, get to class, eat lunch, class again, talk to Ashlynn or Talan, and back to my room.

I was proud to say Ashlynn really showed me the ropes of school quickly. He was talkative and yet dependable. A friend with style and brains.

Talan showed me how entertaining he could be. He was the only person who called me on the phone when I was at my dorm. He didn’t call everyday, he would call sometimes, and he never stayed on the phone over an hour. He was an impulsive guy. Whatever came to his mind he would try it. Like sometimes he wanted to touch my hair, and he would run his fingers through my long, black mane without asking. Then he would apologize later. It was funny sometimes.

They both had minds of true villains, sort of like me. I like that we could sit around and talk about ideas of causing chaos and laughing about it as one. They were great people to have around. I wish I had known them when I was living in that horrible house with my dad.

From time to time I would run into other students here. Like a week ago in the bathrooms in the school halls. I was in the mirror trying to brush my hair down, after taking a mind breaking test. The test tired me out. I think it had me thinking so hard my hair got messy.

I was almost finished brushing when James came out of a stall. I remembered he was in the goth group. When he saw me, he stopped moving. He stood there giving me an antsy gaze For a long minute, that seem to carry on for about ten hours. He stared without moving.

I tried to ignore him, but it was hard. I couldn’t ignore a strange guy who was staring at me through the mirror.

That’s when he spoke, “Hey.” In a deep, scary voice.

“Hi.” I said, not knowing what to do. He was scaring me. I noticed James wouldn’t move. He kept staring at my reflection through the mirror. I gave him a questioning look.

“Is that your real hair?” he started taking lurching steps. His voice was creepier than it was before.

“Yes.”

He held his fingers out like he wanted to touch my hair for his self. He was closer when he heard ‘yes’ come from my mouth. I’m sure he was so close he could hear my breathing changing. I was getting fearful.

His chest was bumping my shoulder as he breathed. “Don’t be scared…I’m just studying you.” One of his long fingers traced through my hair as he spoke. “I was trying to see if I could read your shadow.”

Read my shadow? Was my first thought. My second one was, ‘these goths are creepy!’ I didn’t know what James wanted. I didn’t know what shadow reading was. It sounded scary. The only thing I knew to do was, get an enchantment ready just in case I have to kill him in this bathroom. I didn’t know what all he could do to me through my shadow so I was ready in seconds.

“I hope you don’t mind…” James said his solid black hair hid his eyes like a dark curtain. Through the mirror I saw his face moving closer to the side of mine. It was slow and steady as he inch by inch brought his face next to mine. The air between us had dampened as he moved in-

“James!” a voice called into the bathroom without entering. “Dude, I have to show you a new shadow trick I learned.” From the sound of it, I could guess it was another one of his goth friends.

At the sound of the voice, James jerked back and came to his senses.

What was he about to do?

“I’ll see you around…” His voice filled me in fear. It was so deep and weird. “Hopefully soon.” His face was grim as it always was, when he left.

Whoa! He was weirder than I thought! I never want an encounter with him again.

But that was a week ago. I’m glad I lived through it. I tried telling Chance about it, but he told me James is always like that. As if it was normal. I guess Chance would think James was normal since they are almost alike.

Chance was making it his business to visit. When he came I would get so frightened he was on the verge of getting caught. Every night my panic was a little worse. He didn’t seem bothered about getting caught. I guess he had confidence in his stealth.

We sat on my bed taking turns telling how our day was and so on. Lately, he has been wanting to fall asleep in my room! He stopped sleeping in his dorm completely. This was raising the panic in me. He would definitely get caught if Ashlynn came by to walk me to class. I tried explaining that to Chance but he didn’t care.

I got used to him sleeping in my room after a while. It wasn’t bad. The only thing that was scaring me now, was waking up seeing blood red streaks. I didn’t mind, I enjoyed his presence, and his friendship.

Ashlynn complained that things at school were getting dim. Talan and him decided to sneak out of the Academy with some of the other guys. They were meeting up at some party on another street. Which was risky business.

They told me sneaking off campus was strongly against the rules, but it was worth it. They both kept trying to talk me into coming to the party with them. Talan said ‘if I stayed one more week at school, without partying. I would go crazy.’ He was probably right. At the same time, he was probably telling me how he felt.

They kept talking to me until I wanted to break the rules and go to this big party. They were telling me who all would be there. Everybody’s group from our school was planning on going. I didn’t won’t to be stuck in my dorm as a loner. Wishing I was at the party.

That’s how Talan and Ashlynn both got me where I am right now.

I’m walking the streets with Ashlynn on my right and Talan on my left. The three of us were dressed in fashionable nice fitting shirts. We were loving our look for the party. We went for the charming and casual look for tonight.

It was 10:34p.m. The sky invited the night and its stars. The streets we crossed held on to the darkness, only lighting when a street light shined above its graveled path. Instead of being in our dorms we were halfway to a party.

Talan was telling us about the kids from this other school was throwing the party. One of Celestials rival schools.

Little by little, I was wondering if it was okay to go to a party where your school rivals would be hosting. It sounds like trouble.

Should I even be walking with them? Should I have left? What if this turns out bad?

Soon my doubts were kicking in, and what seemed a good idea at first. Was quickly turning into something not so good. What was I thinking?

Passing by zigzagging streets and a few stop signs we made it to the house party.

There was a considerate amount of draping decorations trimming the outside roof. Around the grass there was lights placed near the side walk making it a colorful sparkling walk way. The house was built on a wide yard of grass. This was a spacious brick home. The attractive wide home was built on promising grounds.

The door was open as we approached. We could see the partiers going wild dancing like animals on the inside of the house. The porch was made of a sturdy wood that didn’t squeak under your feet.

Standing at the door was two people wearing caps. One was a blonde girl who welcomed us kindly. On the other side of her was a brown haired dude who was handing us glow sticks, and glow necklaces. At the moment I was given a glow stick I looked down at my shoes and realized my shoes had glitter on the bottom of them from the side walk.

I looked to me side noticing Talan’s eyes were glowing silverish in the darkness of the porch. He threw on his glow necklace with a hyper smile.

When we stepped into the party we were submerged into the black lights. As far as the eye could see the whole crowd in the party looked like it was under the lighting of black lights.

“Now this, is what I call a party!” Ashlynn screamed over the music.

The party was packed, and each person I ran into was wearing orange, green, or purple glow ornaments. They were out of breath dancing on the heated dance floor with drinks in one hand. Every movement, every glow necklace, every beat of the music was giving extra life to the party.

When we stepped to the middle of the floor, there was strobe lights blinking. Flashes of white, bringing faces into view for second and going back out, then blinking back white to reveal a new face of a dancer. It was so crazy! Sometimes the strobe lights would make your mind think people were frozen in place or doing robotic movements.

I knew I looked a little lost in the crazy dark glowing party.

I walked through the crowded body to body mass of dancing animals. I was going to find a corner, or a wall, or somewhere to sit. Although the music is nice, I’m not a good dancer.

Ashlynn had stopped in the middle and started dancing with the frenzy of people. Talan was in the mix too. They both had some good dance moves. I might have to learn dancing from them so I can save myself from being embarrassed.

When they played ‘Lady Gaga – Monster’, Talan was screaming that was his favorite song. He was swaying his body all over the place.

I stood at a distance where the party was less active. It was much cooler, where I was standing. The dance floor was dark with glowing party people. It was too much heat out there for me. This section close to the wall with the leather cushion like chairs and tables, Was a fun. I could sit down, take a break from school, and watch people live. I smiled on the inside, from the positivity in this place.

From the table I chose to sit at, I had a clear view of the entrance door, so I could see who all was coming in to party. I was relieved to see some of the academy guys coming through the door. My doubts of being in trouble for attending a rival school’s party slipped away when familiar faces joined.

I know I saw most of the guys at Celestial Academy as my competition, but it was different tonight. Tonight, I saw them as allies. I believed in my heart, if anything was to go wrong they would have my back.

The goths were here, James was one of the first guys to walk in. sharp spikes of black on his head. Minutes later, I saw the jocks slapping high fives with each other rushing the dance floor to show off their moves.

By this time the song: ‘Tik Tok by Kesha’ started blasting. Ashlynn knew all the words to the song, I could see him mouthing the words. He was dancing but it looked like he was trying to make his own video to the song.

“Hi there,” Came a delicate sound above the music. I looked up, seeing Aaronn. He was the one who spoke the words to me. “Julius is it?” his sleet white hair hung over his face.

Aaronn was a part of the prep group. I was staring at him at a loss of words.

His posture was sophisticated; he was wearing a nice suit. What amazed me, he seemed to be dressed more for a rich occasion than a wild party like this one. His suit made him out dress everyone at the party. Including me!

“Yes, it is…” I said finally. Aaronn had caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting him to say anything to me…ever. I didn’t see him as someone I wanted to talk to.

When he came to my table he didn’t come alone. Behind him stood the other two powerful preps Ashlynn and Talan warned me about. Kyle at his left shoulder, Reese at his right shoulder. I have heard of their mind games. I knew what they were capable of. I would hate to be one of their mind projects.

I’ll play nice for now.

“We’ve never been introduced.” He assured, offering his hand to me. “I’m Aaronn.” I made contact with his palms, grasping firmly, shaking his hand.

When I shook his hand, I had to be firm with my grip. I wanted to show him I was a strong opponent. If it ever came to it.

I know how the mind works. Some people who give flimsy handshakes are quickly ruled as wimps or someone who can be controlled easily. I couldn’t let Aaron think that of me.

He introduced Kyle, and Reese in a nice manner. It was weird how they stood behind him like they were his body guards or something.

Aaronn’s violet eyes were piercing through the black lights of the party. His eyes seemed to want to suck me in.

“It’s nice to meet you guys.” I stated trying to get them away. I didn’t know what mind game they were going to play. I didn’t want to find out either.

“Nice to meet you too.” Aaronn told me with a smile as white as his hair. “Why aren’t you dancing?” he asked adjusting his suit tie.

“I’m not really a dancer.” I said talking over the music, hoping he could hear me. “I just like to observe mainly.” I threw in. hoping he would leave the dancing subject at rest.

He took a sip of his alcoholic beverage. When I saw him drinking I started raising a brow. I remember Ashlynn telling me one day, Aaronn gets weird when he drinks alcohol. I wonder how many drinks has he had? Because he is talking to me, acting slightly off.

Is he trying to use his mental powers to see what I’m about?

Aaronn moved closer to my chair. He was standing beside me, instead of in front of me. I felt his hand on my lower back. He brought his face close to the side of my head, trying to over talk the wild people and loud music.

His mouth came close to my ear. “I can show you how to dance. Come with me to the floor.” He insisted, kindly.

He was touching me!

“No, I’m fine. I want to sit here.” I said, trying to easily let him down. What would everyone think if they saw his hand on my lower back? That isn’t a good impression for the crowd. I am so embarrassed!

Aaronn needs to move!

I glanced in Ashlynn’s direction, almost fainting at him in the bunch of heated packed bodies. Oh no! That couldn’t be Ashlynn dancing like that!

I couldn’t believe how he was letting Cameron dance behind him like it was no big deal.

This was getting too crazy! I have to go-

I tried to take a stand from my chair. I thought I would be able to find my way out. Right now, I want to be in my dorm room sleeping. Where I should have been when this party started.

I wanted to get to the front door! I wanted to get out! That was the only thing on my mind.

The party was out of hand. I bet Ashlynn had too many drinks, and has no idea what he is doing.

I realized Aaron’s hand was still on my back.

“Okay. No dancing is fine by me.” he laughed to himself. “How about we sit here,” He pulled a chair from under the table so he could sit in front of me. “and talk together.” When he sat down, he crossed his legs casually, and generated a conversation.

His other prep friends left him and me alone at the table after he sat down.

Aaronn proved he was gentle. His conversation stayed within a limited boundary. I wouldn’t expect anything different from someone of his stature. No matter how berserk the party got around us, we kept talking.

I was zoned into the conversation Aaronn was feeding me. As he talked, I noticed he would sometimes touch my shoulder, my arm, or my hands ever so often. It was like he was making sure I was staying in contact with him through the whole talk.

This guy was touchy.

I was getting to know him on a basic level. He was an ultimate, sweet white haired, violet eyed guy. “We’ve got to talk more.” He told me inbetween one of our talks.

I still had to question his motives. I was wondering if he was trying to make his self seem sweet? Or was this a part of him already?

He really made my day when he got up from his chair. Came next to my seat and begged for us to be friends, after tonight. It was a funny, but serious moment. Nobody ever did that just to be friends with me. I tried to leave him there on one knee but he wouldn’t get up until I said ‘yes’.

When I gave my answer, he finally sat in his chair again, crossing his legs, and we talked some more. We were interrupted when Talan and Ashlynn raced over. Both of them talking at the same time and speed.

“It’s time to leave,” they both gave me a look. Then their eyes met Aaronn. “Oh… hey Aaronn.” They said again in unison.

“Hi” Aaronn’s casual tone spoke. Then he surprised me when he said, “could you two give him a sec?”

“Sure…whatever.” Talan shrugged giving us both a weird look.

“Okay, we are fine with it,” Ashlynn approved. “But Julius,” he now turned to me. “We are standing right outside if you need us, ok?”

“I got you.” I said. They both walked away towards the front door, leaving me with Aaronn.

I wonder why Ashlynn said ‘we will be outside if you need us?’ did he know something more terrifying about this guy? Was there more to his niceness?

Then it struck me again.

Aaronn was drunk. He was capable of many things. Ashlynn told me he gets weird when he drinks. So maybe that was what he was warning me about.

Aaronn’s violet orbs found my eyes. His fingers stroked a piece of hair from my face. “Keep in touch. I don’t know your opinion about tonight, but I had an amazing time.” His eyes strayed away to watch the leaving partiers. “I’ll see you later.”

Just like that, he dismissed his self from the table.

Oh yeah, I have to go too! Ashlynn is waiting for me!

With no time to waste. I rose from my chair. I rushed by the remaining sweaty dancers. On my way to the door I kicked a few empty plastic cups scattered below. Struggling through the small crowd. I was at the center of the floor. I had my eyes on the door ready to get out.

When something snatched my arm. It was a hand seizing me from behind.

When I turned around I saw Aaronn was holding my arm with tightness like no other. What was wrong with this boy?

“Let me go!” I said, with increasing anger.

“Julius, wait…” he tried to speak but I didn’t want to hear it. I wasn’t in the mood.

“No! Let go of my arm, right now!” everything was going fine between Aaronn and I, I didn’t have a problem with him. He was a good person. But I guess, Ashlynn’s warning was for a reason.

“Wait,… you have to listen to me!” he tried to raise his casual tone to a slight yell of power. I felt like he was trying to control me or tell me what to do.

Tugging my arm I shouted. “I don’t care what you have to say… let my…” that’s when he let go. For some reason his violet eyes looked like he lost something. “Thank you.” I said turning away from him with a jerk.

I couldn’t believe how he acted. He started off kind and later he got aggressive. I shouldn’t be surprised at all.

No one had grabbed me like that since my dad, the way Aaronn tried to yell at me, he reminded me of my dad. I wasn’t going to put up with my dad, or anyone who acted like him.

I ran outside. I thought I was getting away from the craziness but I ran into another commotion. The first person I heard arguing was Ashlynn. When I saw him he was fussing with some other girls and guys about five feet away.

One side of the street I saw the celestial students. The ones who came to the party that is. Down the street was another group of kids who must have been from the rival school.

Ashlynn had a fierce look in his expression. It was a dangerous craving of some kind. I had never seen him like this.

This wasn’t good.

“Cameron doesn’t know you, whore!” He yelled at some blonde girl from the rival school. “He doesn’t want to know you!”

There was a crowd of guys around her waiting for her to say ‘jump’ or snap her finger.

“I don’t care about Cameron.” The blonde girl replied in a yell. “I don’t care about you, Cameron, or anybody else over there. All of you are trifling scum anyway.”

The goths were standing back behind Ashlynn very quietly. Almost too quiet. The Jocks were standing with their arms crossed ready for anything to set them off. It was like everyone on the street was waiting for someone to start the war.

The guys from the rival side were beastly in size. They looked to have more strength and muscles than our jocks. They seemed like they lived for fighting and drooled for a chance to kill Celestial students.

The argument could probably be heard streets over. The words were getting vicious. Ashlynn was calling her everything in the book, he even belittled her mother.

It was pretty funny.

Talan must have got tired of her mouth so he joined in the argument. “I bet you won’t bring your whack weave down this street to get knocked out!” the girls face burned hot red at his words

She didn’t speak or budge at first. Everyone fell quiet when Talan said his part.

“Yeah you can’t say nothing now can you tramp?” Talan kept going. “That’s what I thought. You don’t want any problems with us. It would be best for you and your weak squad of hound dogs to walk home.”

The goths and jocks from our side started laughing. I started to laugh myself. I could tell this was making our situation worst because Talan wouldn’t shut up.

“Yeah, you guys don’t have nothing on us. That’s right! Go run home to the tramps, you call your mothers.”

Suddenly, as if the pin from a grenade was pulled, the rival school students started fussing. They were all screaming things out at us. Like they were a mob.

Thus the crowds roared, and a fight was on the horizon.

Their feet pounded the street like a herd of buffalo. Shrieks of anger were coming from some of them as their feet thudded the ground. On our side we tried to stand on the shaky ground, trying to ready ourselves for the clash.

There were more of them, than there were of us. But the goths and jocks pridefully stood on the frontline of danger charging their powers. That’s when I recognized everyone on this side as a team. If we died, we died together.

The bigger guys seem to be jolting my way. I saw some of them had already rushed the jocks and everyone began to fight.

I wasn’t going to fight fair. This was a test to see how much knowledge I accumulated while sitting in class.

I started remembering battlefield strategies trying to bring back to mind what to do in the unexpected uprising of battle. then a big football player sized guy, came out of nowhere trying to flatten me!

I had to think fast!

I concentrated on his speed, watching him come full speed ahead. There was no time for an attack he was too close for me to cast an attack enchantment.

My concentration let go, and I could only say, “Mystic shield!” at my words, a purple, nearly transparent, circular orb, encompassed my entire body. The shield was ready, but that didn’t stop the football guy from coming at me.

The big guy kept coming, his head down as he charged at me like a raging bull. He had no intention of stopping. All I could do was hope my mystic shield would hold together and not shatter.

My shield began to move with me as I ran. My first thought was to charge at him while I was protected in my shield. If I get hurt I wouldn’t take as much damage as he would.

I started to run head first into him. My shield surrounded me in a purplish, electric like sphere. I felt like a hamster, as I propelled my legs to keep the mystic shield power, cycling with me as I charged.

When he rammed my shield, I felt the shield wobble and vibrate.my vision from the inside of the shield got distorted. The purple mystic energy, took a huge hit. And it took a moment for the frizz to leave the shield, so I could see.

When the shield cleared itself from the impact, I saw the guy’s head burrowed in his shoulders, and he was bounced further out of the mayhem. The shield shot him like a sling shot across the street.

I was looking for my next opponent when I saw Talan standing in one place casting enchantments by drawing air symbols with his finger tips and shouting out attacks. I thought he was doing a good job handling more than one person at a time, but I thought I could help some.

I was on my way to help Ashlynn, when I saw how the rival school’s numbers decreased. I wondered, were they running away? That’s when I saw the cause of their disappearance.

The goths!

The goths created giant black hands, that pushed the trees aside, and reached from the depths of the lost forest. It was like fear wrapped in the shadowy form of hands. The shadow figured hands open their selves up, snatching some of the rival kids by the ankles dragging them into the darkest parts of the wilderness.

Shouts of help and begging cries of ‘stop!’ were calling out from the woods as they were drug over the grassy entrance. It didn’t stop the goths from performing their horrible duties.

James was standing there next to Damian, and Mason. They were enjoying the sorrow of the victims pleads. All three of them wore crooked smiles as their fingers did crawling motions controlling the shadowed hands from the forest.

The preps stepped into view. They were coming out of the house. When they saw there was a fight going on, they put a stop to everything at once. Using their mind abilities, they shutdown sections of the remaining kids minds. Crippling them where they stood, causing them to drop.

Aaronn came behind me, grabbing my shoulder, “Are you alright?” I nodded wondering how did he get behind me so fast?

I’m glad the preps came because we were running short on time. We had to be back at Celestial before anyone noticed we snuck out. Aaronn, Reese, and Kyle left the bodies lying in the middle of the street. The jocks and goths were looking at them scratching their heads, wanting an explanation.

When Aaronn noticed we were looking at him crazy, he said, “Don’t worry, they will gain full control of their bodies before sunrise.” Everybody was still looking at him awkwardly, “For all they, know they got drunk and passed out.”

After the fighting was finally done, we started gathering around, in a circle holding hands. I didn’t know what we were doing until Ashlynn told me this was how they transport home after sneaking out.

Ashlynn and Talan stood in the direct middle of the circle, closing their eyes, they began chanting confusing things, and jumbled verses I have never heard. Suddenly, there were millions of whispers, whispering along with their chant. Making the words sound like a crowd was repeating the phrases.

The street and the house began to warp, suddenly the whole scenery began to shift. Within a snap of a finger we all were being sucked into a sparkling mini funnel. Blazing blue stars, spun out of control as we were falling through the glimmering whirlpool.

I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t try to breathe either, I had been through this tunnel of light once. Only this time, I didn’t panic thinking I was going to die.

It was the same sparkling tunnel my mom transported me to Celestial Academy through. It made me miss her in a way. I stared at the dazzling purples, and blues cycling along the swirling tunnel trying to take my mind off missing my mom.

Then with a thud! I was spit out of the tunnel and into my dorm. It was the best feeling ever! I went out and had fun. Next time we go to a party I want it to be under different circumstances. Because those rival kids were so stupid for picking a fight with us.

The smell of my room, and the feeling I got from being secure in my dorm never felt so promising.

“Where have you been?” Chance’s muffled voice said, he was freeing his head from the covers on my bed. It shocked me, but I guess he made his self at home while I was at the party.

Even though, I was startled. I was happy to see him again. I couldn’t wait to tell him what happened on my first night out. “There was a fight!”

“You’re joking!” Chance said, his eyes barely open and his red streaks were all over his scalp.

“Yeah, everybody was fighting…“ I told him everything. I skipped parts involving Aaronn’s touching, and Ashlynn’s dancing. I didn’t know what his reaction would be. Plus, he is always asking for advice about his girlfriend. So, I know that isn’t a topic to be discussed with Chance.

When I got settled, Chance wanted to know more details, so we laid down in bed talking about the wild night out.
