The Burden of Ash and Blood 2. Wanderer's Vigil

   (3 reviews)
Mike Carss - The Burden of Ash and Blood (Wanderer's Vigil, Pt. 2).webp

Sam never expected to abandon his modest life as a blacksmith’s apprentice, yet the harrowing death of his parents leaves him no choice. When the reserved knight errant Ser Graeme proffers him a place at his side, Sam grasps at the chance for escape, despite having no clear destination.

With winter closing in, they aim to reach the city of Langscott before the roads become impassable. Their journey, however, is delayed by a chance encounter: an offer of coin too tempting to refuse. The task is far beyond their expertise, but to earn a living on the road, risk often becomes a matter of routine.

The Burden of Ash and Blood is the second novella of the Wanderer's Vigil series

Well-crafted tale of Ser Graeme and Sam, his would be squire.  This is very much character driven, at least it is for me, as I came to quickly care about both in the first installment.  And I do think you need to read it first to have a sense of some of the actions in this one.

We see them starting out on the road until an unexpected rescue brings them a job, that Sam might just be perfect for.

There are of course complications along the way, as Sam is still suffering his loss from the first book.

Read the first book in this saga, and then join us as we continue them in this one.

Graeme and knight and his new squIre in training , Sam, embark on the next adventure. Graeme is away from his native land and Sam joins up with his knight to find a new life after his parents were killed by bandits. As they start their travels, they rescue a couple attacked by robbers which leads to a task to help eradicate a terrible drug that has taken over parts of a town.

Playing detectives and spies they investigate  the people and places connected to the drug trade, They face danger, endure beatings and face death threats. They are victorious and their story continues

Read how they proceed and adapt and learn a great deal more about themselves. I think you will like them and will want to read the promised next story of Sam and Graeme later this year,
