Demon of fire and other poems of lust, insanity and devotion - 7. It doesn't hurt
It doesn’t hurt that much,
If I should say so,
It only hurts when I breathe.
It’s not your fault and it isn’t mine,
It wasn’t meant to be.
We let ourselves believe it would work.
We ignored the signals
and here we are now,
wondering where we went wrong.
I have no regrets,
I don’t hold it against you,
I know where I stand.
It will pass,
the sun and the rain will wipe away
the remnants of what could’ve been,
and we will smile again,
we’ll begin anew.
It’s not your fault and it isn’t mine,
it just wasn't meant to be.
It hurts, if I should say so,
but only when I breathe.
