Bobby (later known as Bob) Stimson is the son of an Air Force colonel and the brother of Teddy. He's an 18 year old senior in high school, a first-team football star, and is dating a cheerleader named Angie. When he graduates, Bob plans to join the US Air Force and follow his father's career. It is the spring of 1966, and the war in Vietnam is ramping up. Bob expects to go from basic training straight into combat, and he's worried about leaving his family and girlfriend behind.
