Forever My Love - 3. Chapter 3: David feels an attraction to Ben. Will he remember their past?

Hey guys, sorry again, trying to balance life between Med school and being an author. Otherwise, I am trying my very best and i am so thankful for your patience. Enjoy this chapter and look out for the next one very soon....

“Nice to meet you, Ben.” David said excitedly, extending his hand to the handsome young man. “It is my pleasure.”

Ben didn’t even hear what the man had said, but stared at him like he had two heads. There was a lot that was going on in his mind and his brain couldn’t function fast enough to process it.

‘I love you so much!’ A voice echoed in his head. ‘It will be you and I forever. I promise!’

‘Leah!’ A scream quaked through him like a tornado and he felt his body shaking.

“Ben!” He felt a hand on his shoulder that made him to almost jump. When he looked beside his shoulder, he found Carlos staring at him with a smile. “Are you okay? The man is waiting.”

“Huh?” He gasped, his eyes glancing at the extended hand.

Something was wrong. He could sense it. He slowly and robotically moved his hand until he held David’s. When their hands met, he felt something that he hadn’t felt in a long time. It was like a breath of fresh air in his life, like the first time he had kissed the guy. But it was accompanied by something, a lot of pain, heartbreak and disappointment, all a reminder of his past.

David on the other didn’t know how he could have felt the way he felt. It felt right and wrong at the same time. When his hand connected with Ben’s, he felt sparks all around him. He struggled to compose himself and it wasn’t just him who saw it, but others too. He immediately began sweating and his heart beat so fast and hard just like a parade of soldiers on a matching spree.

He became so nervous and a grin crept onto his face, it soon stretched from one side to the other showing every single tooth.

“You’re beautiful!” He whispered.

Ben felt a shiver go down his spine with those words and he quickly withdrew his hand, wondering what was going on.

“You seem awfully familiar, like we’ve met before.” He added, not even blinking. “Do we know each other?”

Ben’s mouth opened but no word came out. He was very confused.

“No!” Jim chuckled nervously, rushing to his husband. He coiled his arm with him, pulling him closer. “You’ve never met before. How could you when I don’t even know him?” He said with his eyes on Ben.

Ben’s body didn’t know how to react, it just shut down. He froze to the point where he was hardly breathing.

‘What’s going on?’ He thought. ‘How’s it possible that he’s asking me these questions? How could he not know who I am?’

“By the way, I am Jim, his husband.” He said with a stern face. He was no longer scared. “We’ve been happily married for the last five years, so in case you’re wondering if he’s single, he’s not.”

Ben diverted his eyes to Jim and when he saw that mock in his eyes, he knew what the guy was trying to do. Instead of letting him intimidate him, he smiled and chuckled.

“Is that so? Congratulations to the both of you.” He said simply. “Excuse me!”

With those words, he quickly turned and started going out of there. He felt so suffocated by the painful memories that were flooding his little head. He couldn’t deal with all that, not with everyone in one place. He was rushing when he suddenly heard a voice behind him…

“Ben!”

Ben stopped in his tracks and froze where he stood, that voice bringing so many memories to him. He didn’t even bother to turn.

“I am sorry.”

Ben felt his heart jump in his chest. He slowly turned and found David staring at him with an apologetic.

“I would love to apologize on behalf of my husband.” HE continued. “He shouldn’t have talked to you that way. That was very rude of him.”

Ben smiled sheepishly. “It’s okay. I don’t find offense in what he said. Some people are just like that and they don’t like to feel threatened. But you should reassure your husband that he has nothing to worry about. As long as your love is pure and true, it can never break. Excuse me!”

Without getting an answer, he rushed out of there and went into the bathroom. David remained standing there, watching as the boy left. He felt so lonely, so empty and he couldn’t get why he had a yearning in his heart.

Meanwhile, Ben reached the bathroom and closed the door behind him. Misery, pain and hurt took him like lightning. He slowly walked to the mirror as sorrowful tears streamed down his face as he sobbed softly, his shoulders trembling.

The light didn’t seem to shine as it used to for him. Nothing seemed to brighten his world and he felt like he was surrounded by a darkness with no way out. He had just launched a brand in his daughter’s name. He didn’t need to cry that much.

“Damn you, David!” He sobbed, trying to rub his tears. “Damn you! Why are you here to hurt me again? Isn’t what you did to me five years ago enough? Why did you have to be here again?”

There was nothing left of Ben’s happiness. Everything was gone. It wasn’t anger that took it. He did not feel anything at all, but his face said otherwise. He could hardly keep himself together. He was shaking.

After what felt like hours, he raised his face to stare into the mirror and saw his reflection. His face was so wet that it reminded him of the times when he used to spend his days wailing.

“No!” He shook his head. “Not today, Ben. You cannot be defeated today, even if it’s for your daughter. You need to be strong because she wouldn’t want to see you this way. You promised that you were gonna try to be happy for her. You’re not a coward and you’re not scared of anyone.”

With a deep breath, he washed his face and took some towel to clean himself. In no time, he was back to himself, looking confident as ever. He took a deep breath and got out of the bathroom, wearing a smile that was obviously fake.

As he got out…

“Why are you back?” He heard a voice behind him, a very familiar voice.

Ben stood still and heard the footsteps get near him. In no time, Jim came in full view and he had a mocking smile on his face. Ben knew what was gonna go down. But he promised not to be weak in front of him.

“You know, coming back here was not necessary.” He continued, shrugging. “Nobody needed you here and nobody actually missed you.” He got closer and crossed his arms. “I know your scheme, Ben. Coming back here, inviting all of us here and then trying to play victim so that you can lure my husband into your trap again. We’ve played this game before and I don’t need to remind you that…” He raised his ring finger, flaunting his gorgeous ring. “…I am the one that David put a ring on. I am the one he chose and he doesn’t even remember you. He doesn’t even wanna remember you.”

Ben chuckled bitterly, taking a deep breath. “Good for you!”

He started going but Jim blocked his path. Ben stood, his fists clenched by his sides and rolled his shoulders back.

“Truth hurts, doesn’t it? A man that you’ve always wanted, someone you stole suddenly leaves you in your dying moment. Oops!” He gasped, his mock astonishment, chirping at Ben. “Must have hurt and I am actually surprised you survived.” Then he lost the smile on his face on his face. “I don’t know how you managed to enter this chocolate company and honestly, I don’t care about it. But stay away from my husband. You may fool everybody, but you cannot fool me.

David left you for me and just like a vengeful bitter bitch, you are trying to seduce him again.”

Ben burst into laughter and then got a stern look.

“Wow, looks like someone is scared. Afraid your husband is gonna come back running into my arms?” He raised an eyebrow, wearing an evil grin. “You know, for someone who’s really confident, you’re so insecure. What are you really afraid of? Is it that David will stop loving you and come back to me or that I am too sexy for him to resist?”

“Ben!” He raised his voice, finger raised at him. “Don’t you dare…”

“How confident you are to approach me like this and try to rub salt in my wounds.” He scoffed, getting closer to Jim. Jim felt his heart pound in his chest. “You know what they say about a wounded lion? You don’t know me anymore and you really should be afraid because you have no idea what I am capable of doing.”

Ben watched as beads of sweat appeared on Jim’s forehead. He loved it so much.

“And why the hell would I invite you here?” He crossed his arms, staring deep into Jim’s eyes. “This is a very important occasion for me and your presence here just irritates me. I can see very well that you don’t wanna be here just as much as I don’t want you here. So…” He paused and eyed him from head to toe. “…why don’t you use whatever decency you have left to get out of here. You’re not needed here.”

Jim felt his pulse beating in his ears, blocking out all other sounds. He kept on staring at Ben, noticing that he seemed different. The Ben that he remembered would have been scared of his warning but this one wasn’t.

Ben shook his head and rudely passed Jim, bumping into him. Jim made a slow turn and watched as the boy left. As Ben was going, he bumped into Elena who was looking at him like she had seen a ghost. When their eyes locked, an evil grin appeared on Ben’s face. He didn’t say anything but just chuckled and walked away.

“What happened?” Elena asked when she met with her son. “Are you okay? What did he say to you?”

Jim took a harsh breath and stared at his mother. “I need to get out of here right now.” He said simply, hitting his forehead. “I feel so suffocated, please. This is too much for me to handle. I need to get David out of here before trouble brooms.”

“You’re right.” She nodded. “Let’s go.”

Mother and son went away. They needed to find ways of getting out of there fast.

“Nanny!” David called as soon as he entered the living room. “Sorry, didn’t mean to stay that long.”

“It’s okay, sir!” The beautiful elderly woman answered with a smile. “It’s my job and besides, spending time with the little master makes me so happy.”

David smiled and slowly walked to the couch where his son was peacefully sleeping. He looked so cute and angelic. Seeing him, he felt his heart beat with so much love. He sat at the edge of the couch and passed his hands through his hair.

“He waited for you.” The woman continued. “I am surprised that you took so long. This is the longest you’ve spent at a party in a long time.”

“I know.” He took a deep breath. “This one was different, nanny. And I really cannot explain, but I felt at peace and didn’t wanna leave.”

“Really? What happened?” The woman asked.

David glanced at her and smiled. “Goodnight, nanny, you can retire to bed. I’ll take my son to bed.”

“Goodnight!” The woman patted his back and left.

David slowly and carefully picked his son from the couch and into his arms. The boy moved and mumbled something but didn’t wake up. David took him upstairs while rubbing his back so as not to disturb him.

Meanwhile, Claudia and Jim who had been staring at them looked at each other. They were both nervous and the fear in them couldn’t be masked.

“Mother?” He took a harshly breath, gripping his hair. “Did you see that? David doesn’t seem like himself. He didn’t wanna leave and he kept on staring at him the entire time. I… I have never been so scared in a very long time.”

“I understand your fears because I got scared when I saw that boy too.” She sighed, slowly walking to the living room. “I was so scared that he had recognized him. But I thank God that he didn’t. Otherwise, who knows what would have happened?”

Jim rushed to Claudia and looked into her eyes.

“We cannot proceed with this partnership, mother.” He couldn’t mask the fear in his voice. “We need to find ways of cancelling that meeting tomorrow. I cannot have David around that bitch for another moment longer.”

“Are you insane?” Claudia gasped, shaking her head. “And what are we going to tell David? Last time I checked, the meeting for tomorrow is already set. David knows about this and even if we called to cancel, David will probably Call Gustavo and ask him why the meeting was cancelled. He already saw how nervous we got when we saw that boy. He’ll start asking questions and soon, he’s gonna find out the truth.”

“What truth?” A voice asked.

Both of them almost jumped and quickly directed their eyes towards the direction of the voice. It was Amber and the look on her face was from out of this world. She crossed her arms as she moved closer, staring at the both of them.

“It doesn’t come as a shock that the both of you are discussing this.” She said happily. “Nothing makes me happier than seeing Ben and David together. After such a long time, my brother was finally comfortable at a party. He didn’t even wanna leave. And did you say the way he was staring at him?”

Jim groaned. “Shut up, Amber. You don’t know what you’re talking about. David was probably just impressed with the brand. You know how much he wants to invest in the business for the sake of our son. Whatever is in your head or whatever you saw, David loves me and even if he was to remember him, I am the one he chose to marry five years ago. It wouldn’t change a thing.”

“Really?” Amber raised an eyebrow. “I wouldn’t really forget what happened five years ago. How stressed my brother was for that wedding. How he cried before he said ‘I do.’ And what exactly led to him losing his memory. I might be wrong, but for someone so confident, you’re too nervous. I don’t know what the both of you are hiding but…”

“We have nothing to hide. We’re just worried for David.” Claudia sighed gloomily, hitting her head. “You heard what the doctor said. Besides, somethings are better left in the past. Whether he remembers or not, it is not your decision so I am warning you Amber.” She raised her finger, pointing at her daughter. “Don’t you dare cause any trouble because you will live to regret it.”

Amber burst into laughter. “I won’t even have to do anything.” She shrugged. “All that is needed is for David to be around Ben and his memories will come flooding.” With those words, she turned and started going upstairs. But before she even went far, she stopped and turned.

“By the way, I think David saw Ben at the restaurant that you and Michael went to.” She paused and watched as Jim’s face became white as a ghost. “He thought his voice sounded familiar and followed him outside. How did he call it?” She asked, looking to the roof like the answer was written there. “Oh!” She gasped, shaking her head. “De javu.”

She left laughing, leaving Jim standing there looking lost.

‘I just came for some air.’ David’s voice echoed in his head.

He robotically moved his eyes to Claudia and she couldn’t miss that look of fear in his eyes.

“Don’t let her intimidate you. You know…”

“What if she’s telling the truth?” He gasped, sitting slowly on the couch. “How did she know what happened if she wasn’t there? David probably told her and if…”

“Calm down!” Claudia sat beside him and wrapped an arm around him. “This is what that boy wants and if we’re acting like this, he’s winning. We need to be stronger. Besides, no one knows how you and David got married five years ago except for you, Elena and I. Not even that boy knows what happened. You’ve been with David for the last 5 years; you’ve got a five-year-old son. Nothing can break that.”

Jim glanced at Claudia. “But…”

“Shhh…” She whispered, bringing him into her arms. “It’s okay. Mother is here and nothing is gonna happen, okay.”

‘I will make sure that what happened five years remains a secret, forever if I have to.’ Claudia thought. ‘If my son finds out the truth, I might lose him forever. You’re not gonna win this, Ben. I swear!’

The heaviness of the room settled over Ben as he slowly entered, closing the door behind him. Sighing, he slowly walked forwards, his eyes settling on the crib that was on the floor with all the toys that he had bought for his daughter.

His eyes scanned the room, wishing that there was more life to that room. There was a plum and a few other baby stuff that he had refused to dispose. This was the first time he had seen those things since his return. The room was dim but it reflected his emotions so he didn’t even bother turning on the light.

He was lost in melancholic reverie, his eyes haunted by the ghosts of past sorrows that refused to fade. Reaching there, he dropped to his knees and rested his hands on the crib, moving it. It began swinging and he felt a pain in his heart with its movement.

A silent tear traced a path down his cheek, a silent testament to the depths of his misery.

“I don’t know what to feel today, I wasn’t prepared.” He whispered in despair. “I know I promised not to cry on this day but I could not help but think of you, Leah! I met your father and I just couldn’t help but think if you would have survived had he been with us. And maybe if you still hadn’t survived, would I have been feeling this way? Would he have kissed my pain away? Would we have had another child?”

So many questions and yet he couldn’t even find an answer to them. He took his baby’s blanket and covered it around himself, curling into himself, arms tightly wrapped around his body, seeking solace in the comforting embrace of his sorrow.

Ben was standing on the beach with his arms wrapped tightly around himself, trying to keep himself warm. It was cold, lonely and he was so scared. That was the first time he had ever spent away from his family and he missed his father. But he couldn’t do anything because the man had disowned him.

“Hey!” He felt a hand on his shoulder.

He glanced across his shoulder and found David staring at him with an assuring smile.

“Are you okay?”

Ben nodded sheepishly, trying to put up a smile. “I am okay, I am just nervous and scared. I don’t know if what we’ve done is the right thing, David.” He sighed. “Especially for you. You left your family, all the luxuries just to be with me in this place. I can’t help but worry about you. How will you cope in this place?”

David laughed. “You’re so sweet.” He took Ben’s hands and held them tightly. “But I’ve made this decision and there’s no turning back. I love you so much, Ben, and spending my entire life in this place with you is better than any luxuries that can be offered to me. I’ll die loving you.”

He got nearer, staring deep into his eyes, their souls connecting.

“I just wanted to apologize for whatever has happened since I came into your life.” His voice was so sincere. “I want to make it up to you. Without my coming into your life, you wouldn’t be in this situation. But then again, I would still be miserable without you.”

“It’s nothing!” He said, blushing.

“It’s not nothing.” He added. “My love, I am so sorry. I didn’t see how important your family is to you. Despite everything that has happened, you still think about them. I just want to let you know that I am really glad that my beautiful baby is a good person.”

Without wasting any time, he pushed his hand in his pocket and knelt in front of Ben, staring at him. When Ben saw what he did and what he was holding, he got so emotional. His heart began racing and tears built in his eyes. He didn’t know how to react.

“My love, in this place where we’re about to start our lives anew and with God as my witness, I vow to love you.” He said with so much passion. “I vow to love everything you do and make sure that you have a family in future. From now on, we will be a happy family. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am not joking.”

Ben couldn’t control himself. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he didn’t even rub them.

“Will you marry me and make me the happiest man in the world?”

Ben kept on staring at David without giving an answer. He was overcome with a lot of emotions.

“Please, don’t make this any more difficult for me.” He joked. “My knees already hurt. Please say yes.”

Ben laughed. “Yes! I will marry you.”

“Really?” David gasped, feeling like he was finally able to breathe. He carefully put the ring on his finger and it fit so perfectly. It looked so beautiful on him, like it was made for him. “Perfect! Now I can make you mine as soon as possible.”

He rose and pulled him into a tight hug before he locked his lips with his. The kiss was passionate, sweet and heavenly. Ben felt like he was cloud 9 and he didn’t wanna let him go. No one had made him feel so happy and alive before. He wanted to seize that moment. The feel of David’s lips dancing on his was magical.

That night, they made love, sweet love that he enjoyed. Ben felt safe in David’s arms… he felt loved… he felt accepted and he felt blessed. The man was so gentle that he forgot about the initial pain. He was now just in bliss.

Their lives began, though with lots of challenges, they survived. They got married a few weeks later although it was just the two of them with the initiating minister. That had been one of his most special moments.

“There’s your baby.” The doctor said with a smile.

Ben’s eyes were fixed on the screen the entire time, watching the movements his baby was making. He still couldn’t believe that there was a life growing inside of him. It felt like a big dream, a fiction that his mind had made to make him escape the pain that David had caused him.

“Its growing healthy and I am sure that it is just as excited as you are to come out to the world.” The beautiful nurse commented, smiling at him. She held his hand the entire time. “In just a few weeks, you’ll be holding your baby.”

Ben’s hand robotically moved to hold his big tummy, moving his hand all over it. He was 7 months and a few days gone and he couldn’t still believe that was possible. A few months back, he had been told he was dying of cancer but his life had changed. He felt his baby kick and tears automatically began running down his face.

“Wow!” He chuckled in tears. “Wow! I can feel it move.”

“Yeah!” The doctor smiled, as he printed out the picture and handed it over to him. “That’s a sign that your baby is healthy and can’t wait to meet you. You’re a very lucky boy, Ben, and I am so proud of you. No one with Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome has ever been able to do such a thing and even if they got pregnant, it got terminated within a few weeks of conception.

I must confess that I was pretty worried when you decided to keep the pregnancy. I was worried that it might turn malignant but you proved that keeping this child was a very good decision. You’re gonna be a very good dad.”

Ben nodded and the doctor left. He got off the bed and wiped the gel off his belly, putting on an oversized shirt since that was all he could wear.

“Are you ready to be a dad soon?” The beautiful nurse asked.

Ben smiled. “I’ve never been so ready for anything my entire life. This child will be the source of my happiness and I will grow love it with my entire strength. I will work so hard to provide everything.”

“I know you will.” She held his hand and squeezed it. “The past few months I have been with you, I’ve seen how strong you’ve become. It hasn’t been easy for you and I am so happy seeing you smile.” She paused and stared at him for a long time. “What about the child’s father? Do you plan on involving him or telling him anything?”

Ben remained quiet for some time before he shook his head.

“No! He already moved on and married someone else.” His voice was low. “He’s happy with his new life. He doesn’t wanna do anything with me and I am pretty sure he is sure I am now dead. That’s why he left, because I was just a burden to him. I wouldn’t blame him though.” He chuckled bitterly. “Guess luxuries proved to be more important than love.

As soon as my baby is born, I am gonna so far away, to a place where I know we’re gonna be safe. I don’t want my child to know anything.”

She moved closer and took his hand in his.

“You’re an amazing boy. Ten, twenty years from now, you’ll look at your past and just think that it was a very bad dream.”

“I know I will.”

“Good!” She enthused, raising an eyebrow. “Come on, I have got a gift for you.”

Ben followed her to his room and found a beautiful swinging crib. It was a gift from him for her. He loved it so much and he hugged her, thanking her for the gift. He had gotten a few things for the child but none as beautiful as that crib. He knew his child was gonna love it.

If only he knew…

Present day…

*

The ache in Ben’s chest could not relent. It burned without end as though to remind him of his loss. He didn’t know how long he had been in there. It could have been minutes, damn, even hours. He didn’t even realize that Gustavo and Carlos had entered the room. The lights had been turned on but his darkness was so strong he didn’t even realize it.

“Ben!” Carlos whispered, kneeling in front of him. “What’s wrong? I thought today was supposed to be a very happy day for you. You launched the brand in the name of your day and it was a huge success. I don’t think wallowing in your sadness is the way to go about it.”

“He’s right.” Gustavo agreed. “Look at you right now. You haven’t been yourself.”

Ben slowly moved his head and stared at Carlos.

“It was meant to be, but my past can’t allow me to be happy.” His voice was dull and distant. “I thought I was strong enough to confront my past but after my encounter with him today, seeing all of them, I realized that I am not.”

Carlos frowned. “What are you talking about? Whom did you have an encounter with?”

Ben’s mouth shook.

“Leah’s father.”

“What?” Both Gustavo and Carlos screamed in shock, their eyes widening.

“How’s that possible?” Gustavo was confused. “And why didn’t you say anything? Who is this man? Do I know him?”

Ben rose from the floor and walked to the window, staring outside. He didn’t know what he was feeling or how it could be made better.

“Ben?” Carlos followed him. “You can’t just keep us in the dark. This man is the reason why you’re this way. Tell me right now who this bastard is and I swear, he’s gonna get it from me. That idiot took your smile away and made you miserable.”

Ben’s chest felt hollow. Nausea churned his stomach and he rubbed the back of his crossed arms gently.

“Ben!” Carlos yelled. “You gotta talk right now because I am not gonna let this go. This bastard once again ruined what was supposed to be a beautiful night for you. I will…”

“There is no need.” Ben said, his fingers digging into his arms. “I don’t think it matters anymore and…”

“Who is it?” He demanded. “Now!”

“David!” He said, his lips trembling. His eyes rimmed with tears. “David Paola!”

“What?” Gustavo gasped, feeling his heart hammer in his chest. “David is your ex? He is your child’s father?”

Ben nodded softly. “Yes!”

“Bastard!” Carlos snarled, clenching his fists at his side. “That stupid son of a bitch. And he just stood there and pretended everything was okay. Why didn’t you say anything? I would have kicked his teeth in and…”

“It doesn’t matter.” He sniveled. “He doesn’t remember anything. I don’t know how but he couldn’t remember me. He didn’t know who I was and… I… I am glad he doesn’t. It seems he’s suffering from some memory loss. I had an encounter with his husband, my brother.”

“Wait! What?” Carlos screamed. “Jim was at the party too? Oh my God! How could I have not known?”

“Everyone was there.” His voice was barely above a whisper. “My father, his wife… everyone.”

“Oh my God!” Gustavo was beyond shocked. He moved closer to Ben and rested his hand on his shoulder. “I am so sorry, son, so very sorry. Please forgive me. This would not have happened if I had not sent an invitation to Mrs. Paola.

My child.” He moved his hand and rubbed his tears. “You’ve sacrificed a lot for this company and my family, and I couldn’t even do something to make sure that this night turned out great for you. I messed up and invited everyone that caused you so much pain.”

“You wouldn’t have known.” He couldn’t control his tears. They flowed like a fountain of water. “I didn’t tell you anything about him or his family.”

“I know, but I still would have been more careful. You sacrificed a lot for him and your family.” He sniveled. “But now, you have a new family that loves you and cherishes you. All I want is to see you happy. Now it’s my turn to take care of you. I will not accept the business proposal because you’re very important to me and I wanna see you smile again without any obstacles. Don’t cry.”

Ben nodded and wrapped his arms around Gustavo. As his arms wrapped around him, tears flowed more freely. In that moment, there in his arms, he felt safe.

‘Now you listen to me. I don’t want you near Jim. Don’t ever come close to my son. He doesn’t deserve someone like you.’

‘You know that you’re my strength, papa. You’re the only one that I have left. If you punish me so harshly then I don’t know what I will do. You didn’t even get to hear my side of the story.’

Jerome weakly walked into his house, feeling as if the flashbacks he was having were draining his energy. He hadn’t spoken a word since he had seen Ben, not one. He kept on remembering what he had said to him that night, the last day he had seen his face.

He went to the living room and sat with his face between his palms. He had tears in his eyes… his hands were shaking and the thunderous headache he was experiencing was from out of this world. It was haunting his very existence.

‘I don’t want you anywhere near Jim. I don’t care what you do from now onwards and I don’t care where you go but stay away from him. And your rights have been revoked. You won’t be able to enjoy the same rights as him.’

He sniveled and rubbed his tears, taking his phone out. He dialed a number and it didn’t take long before the man on the other end answered.

“Hello!”

“I need you to do something for me.” He said desperately. “I need some information on someone.”

“Anything for you, sir! Just tell me the name of the person.”

“My son!” He said abruptly. “Ben Henandez, currently working in…”

Before he could finish his sentence, his phone was snatched away from him. When he raised his head, he found Elena staring down at him with so much anger. Her fists were clenched and her chest was rising and falling rapidly. She looked like she’d just escaped a predator.

“What the hell do you think you are doing?” She snapped, shaking her head. “Did I just hear you say you wanna find out about that boy? After everything that he made us pass through years ago. What the hell, Jerome.”

“Give me my phone, Elena!” He snarled, holding out his hand. “I have something very important…”

“Important?” She chuckled bitterly, raising an eyebrow. “Since when did that boy become important to you?”

“He’s my son!” He screamed, rising from the couch angrily.

A look of great bitterness swept across Elena’s face. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Your son?” Her voice was loud. “Have you forgotten what he did six years ago? Have you forgotten that he almost destroyed Jim’s happiness? Have you forgotten how he chose to run away with your son’s fiancé six years ago? And let me remind you that you disowned him. You had cut all ties with him so what’s this drama all about?”

Jerome took a harsh breath, trying to fight his pain. But it sheeted right through him like knife on butter.

“What has changed, huh?” She added, clenching her teeth.

“My fatherly instincts kicked in.” He said under his breath. “Seeing Ben again after so many years made me realize a lot of things. No matter what Ben had done, I shouldn’t have talked to him the way I did. I shouldn’t have said those hurtful words to him.

Six years.” He sobbed. “I don’t know what happened to him the last six years, the pain he’s been through, where he went or how he was doing.”

“And I am supposed to care about that?” Her muscles grew tense and her face got red. “I am warning you, Jerome, don’t make the same mistake again. You already left your family for that whore years ago and you caused me so much pain. Don’t forget how that turned out the last time. We’re happy and we don’t need any more drama.”

“You’re happy.” He chuckled bitterly, rubbing his tears off. “But I have not been at peace the last couple of days. I need to set things right with my son and that’s the only way I will ever be at peace.”

With those words, he stormed out of there and went upstairs.

“Jerome, come back here!” Elena screamed, veins bulging in her neck. “Get the fuck back here. I am still talking to you.”

But he was gone. In anger, she took her favorite vase from the table and threw it on the floor. It broke into pieces but she didn’t give a hoot. Her head was spinning and threatening to explode. She breathed so fast that she thought she was gonna pass out.

“No!” She let out a growl of annoyance. “I won’t let this happen.”

What was going on?

***

“Mr. Martinez.” David said excitedly, rising from the chair when he saw him coming towards him.

Gustavo was with his son and they both looked amazing in black suits.

“Mr. Paola.”

Both men shook each other’s hands, smiling although deep inside, Gustavo wasn’t as happy as he showed. He so much wanted to punch the young man but he knew that he had to act professional.

“I hope we didn’t keep you waiting for long.” Gustavo apologized. “We got caught up in traffic.”

“Not at all.”

David led the two men to his table where his mother and husband were seated, smiling at the two men. They sat comfortably and David asked if they wanted anything to drink anything but neither of them was there for that.

“Anyways, I am not gonna waste your time here.” Gustavo started. “You’re a very famous businessman, especially your mother. Your companies are known far and wide and your reputation supersedes you. I am just a little curious as to why you’re interested in my chocolate company.”

David chuckled, clearing his throat.

“Well, I am not gonna lie to you, Mr. Martinez, you’re a big fish.” He joked, making Gustavo laugh sheepishly. “Your company is a very big and it would be an honor to be part of its greatness. But if you had asked me this question two days ago, I would have told you that I had no interest in doing any business with your company. It never even crossed my mind.”

He wore a beautiful smile as the image of the gorgeous boy played in his head. His heart started beating fast and he felt so overpowered but what he didn’t understand or he could explain.

“But like someone said, we all need chocolate in our lives, as sweet as the love between parents and their children.” He looked at Gustavo and the man smiled sheepishly. “Children love chocolate and I can testify to that. I have a five-year-old son at home who simply loves chocolate and just the idea of being part of this company excited me for his sake.”

Gustavo and Carlos glanced at each other. It was obvious what was in their minds but they didn’t wanna show it.

“I know he would be thrilled and he would wanna be part of that. Preparing for our children’s future begins now and who knows…” He shrugged. “…he might one day grow up to be a great chocolatier.”

‘Oh God!’ Gustavo thought, trying his best not to look bothered. ‘What’s going on here? David has a son, a five-year-old child which means that while Ben lost his precious child, these two had one. This news would devastate Ben if he found out and having this child at our company would be a slap to his face. No matter what, I have to protect Ben at all costs. He shouldn’t find out about this. And even if he will, it shouldn’t be now.’

Gustavo cleared his throat.

“That’s very good, I am glad that you’re thinking about your child.”

“Yeah!” David nodded. “Even if it isn’t about that, I am curious. I wanna know how to make chocolate myself. What better way than to learn from the best, right?”

“Yeah!” Gustavo chuckled nervously. “I understand.” He cleared his throat and wore a stern face. “I am gonna be frank with you, Mr. Paola, you’re an amazing businessman and I would love to work with you. But you see, I cannot accept your business proposal for personal reasons.”

There was a sudden gush of adrenaline when Jim heard the news, feeling him with so much energy. His heart began racing and he became so excited. He glanced at his mother-in-law who had a grin on her face. Both of them knew that they had won already.

“What?” David gasped, losing the smile on his face. “But… I thought…”

“What?” Claudia gasped in astonishment. “But Mr. Martinez, I thought we understood each other. This is very important for my son. He just explained that to you and…”

“I know, Mrs. Paola…” He sighed. He didn’t know how to explain. “…but I just cannot accept your proposal and I cannot tell you the reason. However, I would have loved to work with you and…”

“Welcome to Juan Martinez Chocolate Hive!” A voice spoke, a distance from where they sat.

Everyone abruptly moved their eyes to the direction of the voice and saw him standing there, staring at the table. He looked breathtaking beautiful in a black and white attire with his hair tied in a ponytail. David’s stomach immediately contracted into a tight ball and he felt a sudden stab of anxiety in his gut. He wiped his sweaty palms on his trousers as the boy got closer, his nerves betraying him in tiny droplets of perspiration, a visible sign of his inner unease.

Ben walked towards them with a smile. He didn’t miss the shock on Jim and Claudia’s face, but he loved it like that.

“I thought…”

“It’s okay.” Ben reassured, staring into the man’s handsome face. “Mr. Martinez only refused your offer because he didn’t have a discussion with me. And honestly, I have refused all of the offers in the past so I am sure that he thought I’d refuse this one too. But I wouldn’t mind working with a very reputable company.”

David’s heart pounded like a wild drum, the rapid beats reverberating through his chest as adrenaline surged through his veins fueling his anticipation.

“Wow!” He gasped, literally covering his mouth in excitement. Guess I am very lucky. It will be an honor to work with you, Mr…” He paused, waiting for Ben to finish.

Ben glanced at Jim who stared at him wide eyed, his face pale. He knew the moment Ben opened his mouth, it was gonna be over.

“Ben!” He said with a mocking smile. “You can call me Ben, Mr. Paola.”

“David!” He extended his hand excitedly. “My name is David. Mr. Paola makes me seem like an old man.”

“David!”

Ben extended his hand and shook David’s. The moment their hands touched, David felt something again just like at the party, a connection that he couldn’t explain. It was more than a handshake for David. It meant something that he couldn’t understand. His heart was racing and he felt like he was on fire.

“Ahem!” Carlos cleared his voice, getting the two out of the day dream.

Ben withdrew his hand, leaving the man yearning for more of that touch. Carlos smiled and pulled Ben close to him, giving him a tight hug.

“What do you think you’re doing?” He whispered, pretending to kiss his cheek. “We’re doing this for you and now you just allowed him into the company.”

“I know.” Ben chuckled, kissing his cheek back. “But I have my reasons for doing what I am doing. You will soon understand.”

He pulled away and smiled at Carlos, taking a seat beside him. He didn’t miss the yearning eyes from the man that sat across the table and the murderous eyes that the two devils were giving him. But he didn’t care.

“Mr. Martinez, please, make me understand something.” Claudia said with a raised eyebrow. “How is it that you told us that you cannot accept our proposal but this boy here just opposed you. I thought you were the owner of the company. I don’t mean to be ungrateful but the Gustavo that I have heard of is a man that rules his empire with an iron fist. Since when did he start accepting orders from little boys?” She asked, eyeing Ben from head to toe in disgust.

Gustavo gave a chuckle.

“You’ve heard very well, Mrs. Paola, I am a very tough businessman.” He moved his hand and wrapped it around Ben’s shoulder. “But this young man whom you’re calling is a boy is tougher than he looks. He’s made so many business decisions that have saved my company the last years I have been with him and I don’t make many important decisions without his consultation. I don’t see the future of my company without him.”

Ben gave a mocking smile at Claudia and he saw the woman frown.

“It’s okay.” Ben spoke fiercely. “I know it’s hard to believe but I am actually tougher than I look. My experiences in life have taught me to be tough and smart.” He slowly diverted his eyes to the man that never tore his eyes away from him. “So, David, I have heard a lot about Villa Paola and it’s one of the most famous Villas in the country and I have just been curious about it.”

“Yeah!” He took a harsh breath, licking his lips. “It is a family gem and it has grown so much over the years.” He began explaining about how beautiful it was, showing Ben some pictures of the villa. The two would burst into laughter. At some point, David totally forgot that there were people there with them.

“Wow! So what I have heard is true.”

“It is actually much better in person.” David commented. “I could give you a tour of the villa if you want.”

“Errr…. I don’t think that would be a good idea.” Jim said abruptly, clinging tightly to David’s arm. “Pretty sure that he’s a very busy man. Aren’t you?” He asked with a frown on his face.

“Not at all.” Ben answered to Jim’s annoyance. “Tomorrow morning around 10. I will meet you there.”

With those words, he rose from the chair. “Once again, Welcome to the company.”

“It is my pleasure.”

“Excuse me. I have to be somewhere.”

He quickly turned and lost the smile on his face. He began rushing out of there because he felt suffocated.

“Excuse me!” Claudia slowly got up. “I need to use the ladies room.”

She too left.

Carlos cleared his throat, his eyes directed at David. “Mr. Paola, just out of curiosity, are you a loyal guy? Do you consider yourself as the type of man that would die for something that he loves?”

David blinked rapidly, trying to process the question he was asked. “Well… I consider myself as not only a loyal person but a trustworthy person. I never make promises that I cannot keep. My family can attest to that. I would never betray the people that are close to me because when I love something, I love it whole heartedly.”

“Is that so?” Carlos raised an eyebrow. “What would you say to a guy that abandoned someone that he claimed to love? Somebody that sacrificed his life and his family just to be with him? But when all hope seemed lost, he left him on his death bed and married someone else.”

Jim’s skin prickled with a clammy cold sweat, goosebumps rising like a constellation of fear, as if his body sought to shield itself from impending danger. His heart throbbed so hard that he thought he was gonna have a heart attack.

David on the other hand felt like a fist was slowly closing over his heart. He suddenly got weak and didn’t even know when the sadness took over him or where it came from. Carlos’ made him emotional.

“He’s a coward!” He said simply, his voice low and cold. “Such men do not deserve to live. They don’t deserve anything good in their lives. Someone who sacrifices his life for you deserves to be happy. If I was in his shoes, I would do anything to ensure that my love gets better even if I have to sacrifice myself. He sacrificed himself once for me and the least I could do is ensure his happiness.”

Carlos nodded, smiling at the man. “You couldn’t have put it in a better way.” He raised a glass to him. “Cheers!”

David nodded and picked up his glass. If only he knew that the question Carlos had asked him was actually his past.

***

Ben was walking towards his car when suddenly, his arm was furiously pulled and he was turned. He found himself staring into Claudia’s crazed look. The ridges of her neck were dangerous pronounced and her cheeks flamed with anger.

“What do you think you’re doing?” She snapped. “Trying to lay a trap for my son? I have warned you before and I am not going to repeat myself. Stay away from my son and my family.” She yelled, pointing her finger angrily in his face. “I don’t need to remind you what happened five years ago. My son made his decision and married the boy that he knew would make him happy. He is happily married and he doesn’t need hoes like you hovering over him. So, if I were you, I would reject that proposal. Do I make myself clear?”

Ben slowly released his arm from Claudia’s grip, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course, one would never forget the threat I received from you six years ago.” He said with a sigh. “It would also be hard to forget the slap that came with it. And most of all, it would be very hard to forget my unfortunate incident. But you’re wrong, I am not after your son. He’s all in my past and I have no interest in him.”

“Liar!” Her voice pierced the air like shards of glass. “You were clearing trying to seduce him right in front of his husband. How shameless can you be?”

Ben burst into laughter. “Let me remind you that I didn’t follow you at your company, you did. I only took advantage of the situation because I am a businessman and I know very well that David is a very hardworking man. He’s gonna be an asset to our company.”

“Don’t think I don’t see through you.” Claudia warned.

“Honestly, I don’t care.” Ben shrugged. “You can choose to see through me all you want, but it still won’t change the fact that I have already approved David’s business proposal and now it’s all up to him to sign the contract or not. You can convince him not to. Oh wait…” He gasped in mock astonishment, chirping at her. “…you can’t, can you? Otherwise, you would have done that long ago.”

He got closer and stared into her face, wearing a stern face.

“I know you don’t like me, but I am not fond of you either. In this situation, you’re just gonna have to tolerate me being near your son. Welcome to the company….” He paused and wore an evil grin. “…Claudia!”

With a laugh, he opened his car and drove off, leaving Claudia looking lost.

***

Jim furiously entered the living room, feeling like he was carrying such heavy load. He tore through the room, overturning furniture in a fit of bling rage, the sound of the splintering wood and shattering glass punctuating his uncontrollable outburst.

“Fuck!” He screamed, clearing the table of the ornaments that were there.

“What’s going on?” Elena asked as she rushed down the stairs.

She was shocked when she found herself panting and looking like he just escaped from a predator. His eyes were blood red and the veins on his neck were so prominent, almost as if someone was strangling him. She rushed to him and held his arms.

“Baby?” She gasped, her eyes widening. “What’s wrong, my love? Talk to mommy.”

“He’s ruining my life once again, mom.” He screamed, gripping his hair angrily. “That bitch is out to ruin my marriage and I feel like killing him. He knows exactly how much David means to me and he’s trying to get to him.”

“Calm down!” Elena said as she rubbed his shoulders. “That isn’t gonna happen.”

“You have no idea what he’s done, mom.” He snapped. “You saw him yesterday and you know that he’s changed. I was so sure that seeing David, they wouldn’t approve of his business proposal and it was working. Until that bitch arrived and changed everything. Right now, as we speak, David is already part of the company and that means they’ll be seeing each other more, they’ll be working together and I am just so scared, mom. The worst part of it all is that David offered to showed him the villa and…”

“What?” Elena’s eyes widened. “Tell me you’re joking.”

He shook his head, furiously rubbing a tear that went down his cheek.

“Mom, I am so scared.” He sniveled. “If David remembers anything from before our marriage, everything is gonna be over. There will be nothing keeping him close to me anymore.”

“Shhhh…” She wrapped her arms around him, trying to make him feel better. “None of that is gonna happen, baby. David loves you and you gave him a very beautiful family. There’s no way he’s gonna leave you and he won’t remember anything.”

Jim slowly raised his head and looked at her. “The day we went out for lunch, I think he saw him there and he had a flash back. I don’t know how true this is but…” He paused and took a harsh breath. “…Amber told me that he told her about a boy he saw that might be connected to his past.”

Elena’s breath came in shallow gasps, chest rising and falling rapidly as if the weight of her fear threatened to suffocate him.

“Are you sure? This could be Amber playing tricks on you.”

“No!” He shook his head. “Amber couldn’t have known what had happened unless he told her. And you should have seen the way he was staring at him today, like he wanted to kiss him. The last five years, I’ve never seen my husband look at any man like that, worst of all, in my presence. I feel so helpless because I cannot say anything without triggering his suspicion.”

“Shit!” She said under her breath. “Okay, listen to me, my love. We’re gonna have to make sure that that doesn’t happen. David must not remember his life with Ben no matter what. And they must not be in a place together alone. Do I make myself clear?”

“How do I do that?”

Elena chuckled, cupping her son’s cheeks.

“Sometimes you forget whose son you are. Leave it to me. Just follow my lead and everything is gonna be fine.” She slowly rubbed his tears. “Now come on, stop shading those tears and stop being scared. You’re smarter than that boy and you’ve got an advantage here. We’re gonna hit him where he doesn’t suspect. He’ll go back to where he came from in no time.”

Jim tried his best to smile although he wasn’t fooling anyone. As mother and son were embracing each other….

“What’s going on here?” A deep manly voice asked, getting their attention.

It was Jerome and he was looking around the room, trying to understand what had happened. When he saw his son crying, he hurried to him and tried to touch him but Elena angrily pushed him away. He stood a distance, staring at her like he had seen a ghost.

“Are you crazy?”

“You should be happy.” Elena chuckled bitterly, rising from the couch like she had been sitting on hot coals. “You should be very happy and proud of yourself. Once again, your illegitimate son is back to make my poor son’s life miserable.”

“What?” To say he was confused would be an understatement. “What are you talking about? What’s going on?”

“Well, your stupid illegitimate son is once again trying to take advantage of my son’s husband.” She yelled. “She was flirting with him right in front of him. But you should be rejoicing right now because he’s following in that bitch’s footsteps, like mother like son.”

Jerome glanced at his son and saw the tears in his eyes.

“Jim, is this true?”

“You think I am lying?” Elena snapped. “You think I would be acting crazy over nothing?”

“No! I just don’t see any reason why Ben would do that.”

“Are you defending him?” She gasped, failing to believe her ears. “Wow! Your son is right there, suffering and you’re busy defending someone that has hurt him. What kind of father are you? Instead of you to be protecting your son, you’re busy defending that good for nothing gold-digging bitch!”

“He’s my son too!” He snapped.

Elena felt a shiver run down her spine, a tingling sensation that spread like wildfire. She stood there, feeling the energy leave her. Jim on the other hand sat there, trying to process what he had heard from his father.

“Ben is my son.” He said in between breaths. “Right now, I don’t want what happened six years ago to repeat itself. I lost one of my sons to a senseless act of anger and I had no idea where he had been the last six years. I told him so many hurtful things and he probably hates me right now, Elena. Not a day passed by that I didn’t wish I could turn back the hands of time and resolved the issue between my sons. Maybe, just maybe… we wouldn’t have reached where we are.”

“Are you serious?” Elena snapped.

“I have never been so serious my whole life.” She knew from that look on his face that he wasn’t joking. “Parents are supposed to be the guide for their children and I failed my child when I was supposed to do that. My son for the last six years grew up without me. I don’t know what happened and how he got into the company.”

Elena raised an eyebrow.

“He hurt your son.” She yelled, furiously pointing at Jim. “Just look at him over there. Does he look fine to you? Does he look like someone who wanna hear what you’re saying? You’re defending someone who is hurting him?”

Jerome sighed and moved to his son, sitting together with him on the couch. He took his hands and rubbed them sweetly.

“Jim, I am so sorry that you’re going through this.” He said softly, staring into those teary eyes. “But you need to understand that not everything is as it seems. It’s probably not what you think. Don’t think too much about it. Don’t make a mistake and mistrust your husband.”

He leaned forward and kissed his cheek.

“I love you so much!”

Without getting a word from him, he stood up and left without saying a word to his wife. In anger, Elena sat closer to her son, staring into his eyes.

“Don’t be so stupid as to listen to your father.” She said harshly. “He’s not thinking straight and if you ever think of entertaining that bitch, history will repeat itself and you’ll be back in this house.”

Jim snorted. “Never! I will not allow Ben to return to our lives even if it’s the last thing I do, mom. I will not allow my father and him to reconcile. As far as I am concerned, I am the only legitimate Henandez and I only have the right to the Henandez wealth. My father already said he’ll will everything to me and that is the way it will remain.”

He stood up and angrily rubbed his tears.

“Ben! These are the last tears that I’ll shed because of you.” He vowed, clenching his fists at his sides. “It’s time I started protecting what belongs to me, starting with my husband. I’ll make sure that I hurt you where it hurts the most. Get ready for me.”

Hearing her son’s words, an evil swept across Elena’s face. She knew it was only gonna be a matter of time before she drove Ben to where he belonged. That was a promise.

***

“Of course,” Ben said excitedly as he stared at the laptop screen. “I am looking at it right now and can’t believe that Leah has already been sold out in just a day. This is crazy.” He laughed.

‘We’ve just recorded the highest sales in a day for any brand since the start of this company.’ Gustavo said happily on the other end. ‘And it’s because of you. Thank you so much, Ben. Thank you for being a part of this company and all your hard work.’

“You don’t have to thank me. You’re the one that gave me an opportunity to show case my skill and it paid off.”

Gustavo laughed on the other end. “Okay, let’s not get emotional. I’mma go and then I’ll meet you later. Take care.’

“You too.”

He cut the call and began checking out the reviews on the website. It seemed like everyone loved the new brand and were asking for more. He was so happy that he couldn’t wipe the smile from his face.

Ben was in his office, feeling like he was on the moon. His eyes crinkled at the corners, lines etched by countless smiles, as if happiness had left a permanent mark on his face, a map of joyous moments lived. As he was still reviews, he heard a knock on the door and he immediately told the person to come inside.

Ben didn’t even raise his face. He knew it was his assistant.

“Janine, you did very well to come in. I have something that I want you to do.”

“Ben!” A shaky manly voice spoke.

Ben felt a shiver run down his spine, a tingling sensation that spread like a wildfire. His eyes quickly moved up and when he saw him standing there, he felt his heart miss a beat and his breaths seize. Without even realizing it, he quickly stood up as his breaths returned, harsh and shaky.

“Dad!” He said abruptly.

Jerome’s heart pounded like a wild drum, the rapid beats reverberating through his chest as adrenaline surged through his veins fueling his anticipation. Laughter bubbled from deep within him as his arms slowly opened up and tears built in his eyes.

“Ben, my son.”

“Don’t call me that.” Ben said harshly, pointing at him. “What the hell are you doing here? How did you even get here? Get out before I call security.”

“Ben, please, my son… I need to talk to my son. It’s your father.”

“We have nothing to talk about.” His voice was dull and distant. “I was just caught off guard when I called you dad. I could no longer see you the same way as I did years ago since you broke all ties with me, Mr. Henandez.”

Jerome’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. The world seemed muted and colorless as the memories of all the sad things he had said to his son burdened him all over again.

“Ben, please, I understand and I am so sorry.” He tried to move closer but the boy stopped him. “I was angry and I spoke out of anger. There was a lot that was going on at the time and….”

“I don’t wanna hear any explanation from you.” He snapped, furiously rubbing a tear that was going down his cheek. “Have you forgotten so soon? Have you forgotten what you said to me? You regretted that I was I born. You wished you hadn’t met my mother. You wished you hadn’t brought me into your home or showed me the same love as you did your son. Isn’t that right?”

Jerome’s eyes held a distant longing. His eyes reflected a vast expanse of emotions too complex to be contained within a single tear.

“Ben, please, I have gone through a lot these past few years. If you give me a chance, I will make it right.”

Ben burst into laughter, more tears decorating his face.

“Wow! You think you’ve been through a lot?” He asked, pointing angrily at him. “What about me? Do you know what happened to me after I left the house? Do you know where I was? Do you know what happened to me after David left me for your precious son? You’ve got no freaking idea so please…”

“Ben… understand, being a parent is not an easy thing and we make mistakes.”

“You think? A father should be able to protect his child no matter what. He shouldn’t say those hurtful things that you did that day.” He sniveled. “But you were just glad your problem was gone and you had your perfect family.” He furiously rubbed his face and leaned on the table, closer to his father. “I have already considered you dead. So, I suggest you go back to your family and forget you had a son called Ben.”

“Please,” Jerome dropped to one knee. “Do not do this. Not a day has passed that I haven’t regretted what I said to you. I have been suffering. You wouldn’t understand the love a parent has for a child but in future you will, Ben. Please…”

“Don’t talk to me about fatherhood.” He slammed his hand against the table, making Jerome abruptly rise. “You have no idea what I have been through or what I have lost. As someone that has already lost a child, I know how it feels to yearn for a child every day, wishing you’d return to that moment and given your life for hers. That’s why a parent who truly loves their child cannot leave them alone or disown them. You never loved me. You only pitied me.”

To say Jerome was surprised would be an understatement.

“What- what are you talking about?” He stuttered, a frown appearing on his face. “A child?”

By the time Ben realized what he had said, it was too late. He had burst out in anger and told Jerome about the child.

“I have nothing to talk to you about anymore. Just go back to your family.” He sniveled. “After what happened, I will never be able to see you in the same way again. As far as I am concerned, both my parents are dead.”

“Ben!”

“Security!” He screamed.

“Ben, please…”

“Security!”

Two muscular guys dressed in black suits came rushing in. “Yes, sir!”

“Please, escort Mr. Hendez out of here.” He commanded and he should never be allowed on these premises again.

“Ben, please…”

“Just leave on your own, Mr. Henandez, otherwise, I am gonna have security throw you out.”

Jerome nodded, slowly rubbing his face. “If that’s what you want. But I will never give up on you, Ben. Daddy still loves you.”

With those words, Jerome left.

When he left, Ben sobbed in silence as he sat at the edge of the seat with his face buried in his hands. He let out a strangled sob, his shoulders shaking as he cried into his hands.

Though it is a bit of a shame Ben didn’t allow his father anything. It would be awful for Ben to regret later on not having listened and to find his father dead.
