News from the Front

In Mississippi our wise politicians have passed a much needed Religious Freedom Law.   Now you don't have to do anything that offends your religion.   Since slavery is biblical, I'm wondering when that is going to start back up.   Anyhow- here's a link to local paper :>> http://www.clarionledger.com/viewart/20140403/NEWS010504/304030023/Gov-Bryant-signs-religious-practices-bill   Here is my counter attack published in the same paper today.       Well... the war continues. Weirdest Dream Ever (or- I'm reading too damn much sci-fi)

Setting: frontier planet Evergreen. It's a Gaia world with rich volcanic soil, long growing seasons, lush jungles with many strange and dangerous animals up to and including dinosaurs.   The law enforcement on Evergreen are called Colonial Rangers. Many have territories many hundreds of kilometers across.   Scores of colonists start to go missing near the vast swamps at the mouth of the long, slow Toulon River that crosses much of the continent. This is of special concern because the city of

I've been working this week and while I was on the road, I heard a song I haven't heard in a very long time.   Now it's stuck in my head.   In an effort to get it out of my brain, I will attempt to inflict in on yew.     You're welcome.

New format for Case:Black

Case:Black is an experimental work in progress.   As I have been working on it, it has sort of evolved completely on it's own a 24-esque format.   I didn't intend it to happen that way. It came from the short scenes built onto a tight timeline.   I would really like to go back and re-format the whole thing but GA's author/story page... ummm I'm not sure how I would go about it.   I have decided- why fight it? The ticking clock/24-esqe format is a natural fit for the story. From now on, I

Computer problems

My hard drive is dying.   It says so. It is a new generation drive from Seagate that uses SMART(ass) technology to warn me that a crash is inevitable.   So far too many sectors are going bad. It's only a matter of time before the drive says ERK and dies horribly.   As soon as this happened I went into uber-geek mode and begin doing stuff like backing up and preparing for the installation of the new drive.   It is of course a huge pain in the ass. Why does my SMART(ass) technology only la

That Boy With the Far Away Eyes

That Boy with the Far Away Eyes     I was drivin’ home late Saturday night Through Pearl, Mississippi Listening to bluegrass music on the redneck radio station, And the cowboy said: “You know you should always have your .45 by your side” And I was so pleased to be informed of this That I shot twenty stop signs in his honour, Thank you Joe-Bob, thank you lord   I had an arrangement to met a boy, and I was kind of late And I thought by the time I got there he’d be off, He’d be off wit

Lou Reed Died Today

Unless you're an old hippie or druggie you probably don't remember Lou Reed.   He was a rock and roll bad ass before it was cool. He wrote songs about dope and cross dressers back when Jimmy Morrison was banned from doing concerts because they thought he shook his Johnson at them.       I'm limited by the number of videos I can post but there's a couple more you can look up:   Sweet Jane, Pale Blue Eyes and Heroin all by the Velvet Underground.

The Machine That We Have Built

I know why we did it. I watched. Fear drove it.   We voted for candidates who would get tough and make a difference.   Thirty years ago they said BE AFRAID! We need tougher laws because drugs are out of control.   So we bent the constitution a little and it didn't hurt most people.   Twenty years ago they said BE AFRAID! We need tougher laws because of perverts are out of control.   So we bent the constitution a little and it didn't hurt most people.   Ten years ago they said BE AFRA

10 Years Clean & Sober

10 Years Clean & Sober   A.K.A What a Long Strange Trip it has Been     October 1, 2013 I got this nifty little medallion.     It means after years of fucking up with the assistance of various chemicals, I wanted to change the downward trajectory of my life. It means I am no longer the life of the party. I don't have cocaine in my underwear. There's not a bong under the sofa. There aren't any bottles under my bed, in the pantry or under the seat in my truck.   It didn't work out

Vintage Audio- CD Players II

CD players took off fast. Their advantages, especially in car stereo, pushed them forward and the prices down. Compared to cassette players they were a quantum leap forward in sound and reliability.   On the home audio front, the first and loudest voices were for multi-disk CD players. As the first generation players could only deal with one CD at a time, they were inconvenient and people wanted to play their CDs in batch.   The first answer to multi-CD players was the CD magazine or cartrid

Vintage Audio- CD players I

CD players arrived on the scene in the 1980s and quickly supplanted vinyl as the dominate audio-media. Unlike cassettes and LPs, CDs are a purely digital media. They reproduce sound with complete fidelity.   Compact Disks (CD) are optical disks which are read by IR laser. Data stored on audio CDs follow formats defined by the Rainbow books. Prior to 1988, the audio standard was defined by the Red Book. It was superseded by the Red Book in 1988 and by the Orange Book in 1990. There have been ot

Vintage Audio- Amps

One of my many hobbies is that I like to play with something called vintage audio.   This is the collection of old stereo components and the attempt to make it all work. It may sound expensive but it's not that bad. Speakers are expensive but you can find some REALLY neat old components on e-bay.   At the moment my current stereo configuration is playing and doing a great job with David Bowie's Greatest Hits.       So.. let's get into it.   The number 1 component that you need is
