Waiting for a writing partner

Okay not many of us can write in a bubble. Most of us need someone to bounce ideas off of, check our stories over, and keep things going. If you are smart you create a little team of people you can rely on.

However even the best laid plans occasionally go haywire. Take my own writing for example. My main story has been trudging along. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower but always going forward. One of the main reasons for that are my beta and editor. My major problem is my beta is on vacation. I'm trying to struggle on without him but you never realize how you can depend on someone till they aren't there. I hope he has been having fun on his vacation but I want him back.

Okay, so as not to swamp my guys I do try to keep a few options open. However, like most people if something isn't broke why fix it? For majority of my short stories I use a very good editor however she has been moving. Makes getting my short works out hard too. . I love my friends because I can depend on them for so much. They help my writing be the best it can be, from picking up mistakes in grammar and punctuation, to noting where I have left a time line I have created. Makes it all sort of worth it to have them around and helping me. If things seem to be coming out slower, well they are. I'd rather wait to have them check it out then force it out and people go, um Wayne, you know this isn't what you normally do, this, this and this was wrong. Sorry, won't be doing that. So hang in there and like me, wait it out. Enjoy for now. Here is hoping Irene decides to leave the East Coast alone. I have writing to do.

Having a good, tight writing team is worth of gold! I am so happy with mine, couldn't do without them! Mine is a small, tight unit with a few expansions that work with me every now and then. Everyone is important, everyone have their share of input to my writing process.

If you need any help any time, just ask. Though I won't be offended if you feel you don't want to trust a stranger with your work! :)

Sorry, I can't help it! :P Though I could just shut up if it means getting chapters out faster... ;) JK I know I'd be a lesser writer if I didn't have Renee to work with and I love being a part of the team for all of my writers. Getting to talk plot and characters, having input into the worlds they create, and best of all, sneak peeks... Ahhh, heaven for me! I'll always be more of a reader than a writer and this gives me the best of both worlds.

It's weird for me because writing to me is such a solitary activity. I offer it to be read not really expecting anyone to enjoy it, just basically because reactions are interesting to me and it's probably the best way of getting to know me.

I don't really write with a team then because, for me, I'm not trying to impress anyone anyway. Reader enjoyment is at the bottom of my list of reasons to write. I usually write in need of purging something, and then when it's finally out, I can show everyone: this is why I act this way. This is what I'm dealing with.

Most of the corrections people make to my writing are the very things I'm trying to display.

It's fascinating to me, then, how everyone here sees it as a straight-forward, community effort. I'd probably like it more if I were that way. (I also might have a better chance of it ever being successful.)

Maria you know I tap you often when I go for poetry. It is just that way with me. Wouldn't trade you for anything though.

Cia you lend a hand now and then as well. But I wouldn't interrupt you. You have enough people you are aiding now. Lugh alone is enough not to let you touch mine. I love his stuff and I know you lend him a hand.

I appreciate the offer. I just am within sight of the end now so I have to be patient. Jian is home today so things will get back to normal.

Well first and foremost I write the stories I would enjoy reading. If I wrote for someone else I wouldn't enjoy it. My beta helps show me where things go astray. Am I sticking to the time line I created? Did I alter someone's name? Does it all make sense? Can they follow the story? If they find errors like that then I go back to correct or alter the story. Usually it is simply a word or sentence change so it can make sense to anyone reading it.

The one I feel sorry for it is my Editor. The are left with the task of cleaning my work up. They make sure my periods, commas, and dashes are all in the right spots. They correct the sentence structure, word usage, and spelling mistakes. They do all the drudge work. They might be enjoying the story but that comes only after they have have gone through and ripped it apart and put it all back together again.

For me it isn't so much a community thing. It is a publishing thing. The work is always mine but my Beta and Editor take the raw material and help me cut and shine it till it is like a diamond. Who can't appreciate that type of dedication? And here is the one thing you have to remember. If they alter a sentence or make a suggestion nothing says you have to follow it. It is all up to you.
