Queer As Folk

Back in 2005 the US version of Queer As Folk went off the air. It had characters Ben and Michael getting married in Canada as it was the only place in North America to legally get married if you were same sex. Melanie and Lindsey moved to Toronto where they legally could be married and raise their son Gus, who would be 16 now I think. Also, Debbie and Carl were left unwed as Debbie swore never to get married until her son and friends legally could at home.

Fast forward 10 years and it is now legal to marry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where the show took place.

There is an online petition to Showcase to make a 10 year reunion movie with some of the actors (including Gale Harold *swoon* ) have said they would be interested. Also the president of Showtime has said he would consider it if someone made a good argument for it.

The petition can be found here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/641/774/746/bring-back-queer-as-folk-to-celebrat-pa-gay-marriage/

On it it states:

As progress in Marriage Equality picks up steam throughout the country it's time for Showtime to bring back the original cast to tie up all the loose ends and celebrate the victories. Now that gay marriage is legal in Pennsylvania, our favorite Pittsburgh residents Carl and Debbie can finally tie the knot. Michael and Ben can be legally married and Mel and Lindsay can move back from Toronto.

The loyals fans of this groundbreaking show deserve some closure and the chance to celebrate the victories with a show that was instrumental in getting the ball rolling. Plus it would be so fascinating to explore how their lives have changed in 10 years time. Come on Showtime the loyal fans of this show and the amazingly talented cast deserve one more time together.

People signing the petition will have to provide personal information and then choose if they want their name used publicly as signing it (I choose not to use my name publicly).

If you were like me and watched QAF as it showed up every week for years, or maybe have bought the DVD set or watched the series on Netflix, I invite you to sign the petition for hopefully a movie next year :)

I loved QAF when it first aired on Showtime, and I have recently watched it on Netflix. I would love a where are they now movie. I really want Brian Kinney and Sunshine to have a HEA. And for Ted to finally get a decent man. Also would love to see how Emmet has done through the years.

QAF and GA were what made me feel better about being gay, accept myself and gradually come out of the closet. We watched this series together with Westie as well, twice now I think, and every time I saw something different. I really enjoyed it and I think a properly thought out film would be marvellous - it would certainly be fun to see how the stars of the show that are now in their 40s and 30s (Debbie and Carl well over 60 I'd guess), how these people contrast to today's gay icons, people 18-30 yo, Gleeks and Modern Family and all the wilderness that the you gay scene is. Maybe a 16 yo Gus who never had a problem with coming out (come on, genetics is there, a kid of two gay parents?), could show us the new gay scene? He will be 18 by the time the movie is shot and released.

"So the thumpa thumpa continues. It always will, no matter what happens, no matter who's president. As our lady of disco, the divine Ms. Gloria Gaynor has always sung to us, we will survive."
