I had a similar experience dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. What happened was so incomprehensible, and the implications so terrible to contemplate ... if it happened to me, it could happen anywhere, to anyone, and there are things in life that are simply outside of our control ... that there are people in my life who still have a hard time accepting that it really was as bad as it was. Unfortunately, it made a bad time even worse for me, because they were simply not able to be there for me at the time when I needed it the most.
