I find odd splotches of unknown origin on my clothes with greater frequency these days.

The rise in popularity of pocket protectors was due to all of the ink splotches that appeared on the clean, white shirts which was mandatory attire in business and higher education at the time.

I just had a vision of Patrick Bateman and his clear plastic raincoat wielding a chainsaw. A very different kind of splotches there.
