I've always loved the sound of this word, but I thought purloin sounded more like a cut of beef, like sirloin.

Oh, and don't forget about Edgar Allen Poe's short story The Purloined Letter. It's one of the mystery stories he wrote and this one was about a letter that had been stolen and was being used to blackmail an unnamed woman.

Sometimes military units, to get what they need, must STEAL it or Strategically Transfer Equipment to Another Location.

It may be purloined, but soldiers like to call it an undocumented transfer.
