Cirrhosis of the liver can also be caused due to prolonged infection from hepatitis B or hepatitis C.  There is also an non-alcoholic form called non-alcoholic steatohepatitis where the liver becomes inflamed from a buildup of excessive fat.   Unfortunately, there is no current cure for cirrhosis, although treatment is available for the underlying conditions.

The only cure is a transplant and those who have the condition due to addiction or continuing poor lifestyle choices have no chance on the donor list. Unfortunately, this creates a ghastly market for human traffickers.

This is another reason I'm glad I kicked alcohol & drugs. Cirrhosis is an ugly way to check out.

It is a nasty and lingering way to go with patients taking as long as six months to die. Pain is chronic and practically untreatable.

Traffickers exist only because buyers exist!!

Traffickers exist only because buyers exist!!

And there are plenty of markets and uses for their cargo. Not much is being done to stop it either.
