This was once the sleeping pill and was often used for intentional overdoses. One of its street names is Reds.

Red Head: You mean phenobarbital ?

Max (laughing): Yeah, sure, but nobody on the streets calls it that. Me, I keep it simple. I just drink wine and smoke weed. Too many people who trip on reds don't come back.

Quite a few years ago my doctor prescribed phenobarbital for me, but I never filled the prescription.  I merely threw it away and I'm glad I did.
