Popular Comment raven1 68,090 Posted November 26, 2023 Popular Comment Thailand has conifers if you get above 1000 meters in the northern mountains. These forests are mainly two tropical species of pine. 7
Popular Comment JamesSavik 24,743 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Popular Comment My favorite conifer is cedar. I run through a grove of them most days. Lately, it has been terribly dry, and I decided to save about a dozen badly stressed seedlings. I gave most of them away, but still have three from 8 to 32 inches tall in pots with good soil and adequate water. They seem pleased as they have turned a healthy green from a sickly yellow, and they are growing. . Edited November 26, 2023 by JamesSavik 4 2

Nothing is better for the environment than planting trees and cedars smell wonderful. In my part of the country we don’t have spruce, fir or alder that give the forests of the Pacific Northwest their amazing bouquet. I think it’s a good idea to spread cedars around. I plan for one of them to be a permanent outdoor Christmas tree at my house when he grows up. 🌲 Edited November 26, 2023 by JamesSavik 3 3

Popular Comment Bill W 45,802 Posted November 26, 2023 Popular Comment I remember when I was in third grade, one of our homework assignments was to find and bring in one or two pine cones. What we didn't know is that it was for an art project. Squirrels like pine cones too, because the seeds are a great source of calories, fiber, and vitamins and minerals to help them get through the winter. 5 1
Popular Comment Bill W 45,802 Posted November 26, 2023 Popular Comment Conifers are important because they're a major source of soft wood, and they produce resins and turpentine. 5 1
Popular Comment Bill W 45,802 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Popular Comment The word conifer comes from Latin - conus (cone) and ferre (to bear). All conifers bear cones, but the size, shape, color, and texture of the cone varies greatly. Edited November 26, 2023 by Bill W 5 1

Alder and cedar are my favourites for fireplaces, campfires and smoking salmon. I was very happy when you said you gave the saplings of cedars to others because, like you, my favourite tree is the cedar for both its fragrance and beauty. 4 2

Pine nuts are an essential ingredient for Baklava, regular (with walnuts) or with green almonds (known as Queen Baklava) - Turkish Baklava is made with pistachios. And now I am hungry.. 😲 5
