So much so that it is almost impossible to identify when reality becomes absurdity and even more worrying, when absurdity becomes reality.  

The word "absurdity" comes from the Latin absurdus, meaning "out of tune" or "incongruous," whichy was formed from ab- ("away from") and surdus ("dull" or "deaf").  The word "absurdity" came into English from Late Latin absurditās (meaning "dissonance" or "incongruity") and Middle French absurdité, first appearing in Middle English around the late 15th century as absurdite. 

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the noun "absurdity" was first used in English around 1429, appearing in the "Mirour of Mans Saluacioune".
